Users now have instant access to their family tree through a variety of devices from anywhere in the world and can verify the accuracy of their family tree at the touch of a button.

Users can also go back in time and undo any errors they may have made five thousand edits ago. The growing and changing nature of the user interface makes for easy use and a pleasant view of the data within Family Tree Maker, reducing the strain on a user’s eyes. Users now have the ability to assign successors and keep their Family Tree Maker license for decades to come, ensuring that their legacy continues to thrive into the years to come.  The future of Family Tree Maker is full of possibilities.

1. Rich Color Coding

Genealogists have frequently sought the ability to perform multiple or “rich” colour-coded generations, not just coding your own family tree, but also a way to display the descendants of all your ancestors. On the new Family Tree Maker 2024, performing multiple or rich colour coding is simple — simply click once (and FTM will colour code your ancestors’ descendants).

2. TreeVault Cloud Services

Additionally, Tree Vault expands Family Tree Maker from strictly being a desktop application to being the centerpiece of a more extensive ecosystem created by Family Tree Maker. Family Tree Maker features a cloud service allowing you to view your tree on your smartphone and/or tablet whenever changes are made to your existing Family Tree Maker tree. Now you’ll know what the weather conditions were like the day you were married, or the day your father was born.  And now you can relax knowing that you have an always current copy of your tree saved, backed up in the cloud for future generations.

3. Sync With an Online Ancestry Tree for FREE

FTM 2017, FTM 2019, and FTM 2024 are currently the only Family Tree Maker programs that allow syncing with your Ancestry account to keep everything in sync. After creating an online tree on Ancestry, you can then share the tree with friends and family, as well as anyone else you’d like to allow access to view, leave comments and/or edit. The best part is that you can sync your Ancestry tree to both your laptop and desktop computers at the same time! Upon returning home from your travels, you will only be one sync away from the biggest and easiest family history surprise you have ever experienced.

4. Billions of Family Tree Maker FREE Records from FamilySearch

Start by downloading an entire branch from FamilySearch to Family Tree Maker. Users can now also access hints related to more than 6 Billion online FamilySearch historical records, making FamilySearch an excellent source of records for Family Tree Maker users for Free.

5. Hints Made Easy to See

The green Ancestry (green) leaves or hints (FamilySearch) we’ve been used to seeing primarily on the tree views may now be located on the index as well. So instead of scrolling down through multiple branches of trees to see what’s new, you can check hints for a given family name directly from the Index or a Saved List.

6. Charts, Reports, and Books

Share your findings through a variety of colorful family tree charts: pedigree charts, descendant charts, bowtie charts, and fan charts, all of which may also be used to generate Reports showing a ‘summary’ of the family tree that can assist in developing a plan to research the family further. The additional views/options available in the different reports allow you to view the ancestors of an individual, their spouses and children, together. The Index of Individuals Report also provides you with additional options, including Lists of Anniversaries, Birthdays, and Contacts etc.

New Features Added in FTM 2024

1. Turn Back Time 5000

If you accidentally removed Uncle Harry from the family tree and forgot about it a while ago, then Turn Back Time would allow you to restore it with one click and take you back to the point just before the removal occurred. This feature was introduced in FTM 2019 and pretty much covers everything that goes along with being able to undo mistakes. Since all changes are displayed in the Turn Back Time change log, this includes all data about all types of changes that have been performed on your family tree, such as merging or syncing your family tree with Ancestry.com. The user feedback that we received indicated that we should add additional records to the change log, so we added 5000 records to Turn Back Time!

2. Connect Workspace

The Connect workspace will allow you to easily share your family tree with relatives and have them help you confirm the accuracy of the information within it. Your relatives can access your tree through the free mobile app called FTM Connect, available for both iPhone and Android. If your relatives find anything that they wish to share with you, they can create a sticky note with the Relative Hint. Because of TreeVault, their sticky note icons will now appear on your FTM tree and in the Index next to the Ancestry and FamilySearch hints. You will also be able to see how your network of relatives is helping you with this information as they continue to support you in building your family history. So it’s time to start connecting!

3. FTM Connect 2.0

Thanks to a significant upgrade of the FTM Connect app, individuals are now able to connect with their extended families through the app’s Guest Access feature. With the help of TreeVault, users are able to create invitations for family members to share their family tree with via mobile devices (tablets or smartphones). Upon accepting the invitation, users will have access to even more recorded details within their family trees from within the app, including recorded relationships, research notes and web links. As an added bonus, the FTM Connect app provides direct links to FTM’s library of famous family trees (like those belonging to Alexander Hamilton, Luke Skywalker and Walt Disney) and more. Have fun exploring all that FTM Connect has to offer!

4. Easy on the Eyes

The request we receive most often from people is, “Can you help with my eyes?” Now we’ve got your answer. With Easy on the Eyes, you can make the areas you’re working with in your People workspace much larger so you can see them easily, until you’re finished, at which point they will shrink back down to the way they looked originally. So relax! Stop squinting, and let Easy on the Eyes take care of this issue for you! To see how this feature works, watch the video showing it in action!

5. New Photo Darkroom Tools

In FTM 2017, we introduced a selection of tools for restoring photographs that were damaged, in particular photographs that have faded so badly throughout the years that they are virtually blank. We collectively called these tools Photo Darkroom. As we will detail in FTM 2024, the Photo Darkroom tools have multiplied dramatically. In addition to the basic cropping function, you now have a full range of new and enhanced repair tools that enable you to easily remove scratches and dust from your old family photographs. Like the original Photo Darkroom tools, you will always have an unchanged original copy of the photograph you are restoring.

6. Coming Soon! AlbumWALK

AlbumWALK has been describe as a “game-changer” for putting memories into photos. As the basis for our original technology patent, AlbumWALK is a free mobile application for both iOS and Android devices that enables any user to capture their memories and then embed them within a photo using our proprietary tap-talk SoundSpot technology. You can simply tap a person’s face within a photograph and then talk about that individual before selecting the next person and tapping again (and so forth).

7. Co-Pilot 2024

FTM 2017 launched our Co-Pilot program as a way to provide a solid foundation for new users of Family Tree Maker to get started successfully. Our concept for Co-Pilot 2024 has been expanded to support the growing number of mobile applications that make up the FTM ecosystem.

Following your first launch of Family Tree Maker 2024, you will be ask to complete a quick diagnostic questionnaire, allowing us to determine whether you have a successful launch or need assistance.
