They ban accounts without reason. Glad I never bought a membership here. Had one account banned accused of fair play violation. Average about 80% accuracy with about a 70% win rate. Nothing that crazy. Just someone whos played chess a long time. I appealed that decision. After weeks I got a link to setup a new account. A couple weeks on that account, and also banned. Their site is completely unusable.
Chess.com is not a place for beginners. The algorithm and bots will have you frustrated before you even begin to like the app. Don't bother.
Unless your a Grand Master, chess.com is unpredictable with the level of play a player possess. No matter their rating, the player can be considerably advanced. Lichess is better when seeking a comparable opponent. Chess.com expects you to play as black even when you've already played as black. Win or lose it should alternate especially if you protest by aborting a game or two. Rather chess.com will INSIST you play black and view you as abusing for insisting to play white, which you won't get. Lichess will alternate your color if you protest playing a color you just finished playing. Today is my white practice, but 80% of my games are my being black. Hacks, cheats and abusers are more frequent at chess.com. Overall chess.com the is most popular, and the most difficult opponents.
Despite having no issues with the rest of the internet, I consistently have latency & connection issues with this site
I also regularly notice my time 'disappearing' as my opponent gets the same 'lost' time
I also have issues with the site also constantly altering my moves
Unhelpful customer service, also got 'warned' for being upset for them cheating me
One day before my trial was supposed to end they converted my subscription into a yearly one and charges 125 from my account.
I was playing with my friend in chess and I am just a chess god compared to him, but we were playing rated matches so after me winning 4 times in a row chess.com banned me, with no warning whatsoever. Chess.com deleted my account and had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to create a brand new account...I tried to get my account back (I was ready to have the points I earned from those matches I had with my friend to be taken away), but no chess.com basically said to go f- off, so I couldn't even get my account back. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU GO TO A DIFFERENT SITE TO PLAY CHESS, UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR HARD WORK TO CEASE TO EXIST! The photos linked are emails that chess.com sent.
The general idea of the platform is excellent, lots of tournements, modes of game and grops, but full of cheaters, bad staff who never pay attention to your complains, the matchmaking is one of the worst that i ever used.
There are better sites
I agreed to pay a monthly fee of approximately $10 for my grandson to improve his game. However they charged me $129.89 for some unknown reason. I have called their toll free # which my bank gave me but no call back from them!
I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone
Too many unsportsmanlike players on this site. Moderators adjust ratings if reported but I've found that really not worth the time if you enjoy playing chess to learn and have fun because of unethical opponents
This website is just a shame, everything is fcking expensive and you don't have access to anything good compare to lichess this is a clear cut, pls die chesscome
Today I played 10 games as guest on beginner and had the following results:
4 games - abandoned
3 games - other player resigned after 10 moves
3 games - disconnected after being a loosing position -- basically ran the clock down to the last minute and then disconnected
Site is basically garbage. Nothing the discourages slow play, abandonment, or just disconnecting.
With that said, the site itself is well designed.
I find Chess.com to be a good overall value. They give you everything you need, to have in a chess website.
Once I got charged now game a analysis won't load. Lessons are ok but a little over my ability right now. Would be nice to see more openings and defense rather than 2 world class players battling it out
I WASTED MONEY ON TWO YEARS OF MEMBERSHIP. SITE IS HORRIBLY MISSMANAGED. YOU CAN CONTACT CHESS.COM BUT THEY NEVER REPLY. So FOCUS CHESS.COM OR F$#% OFF CUS YOUR STUPID.
You can still report an opponent cheated on Chess.com but no longer given an option to describe the issue. This indicates to me they are so full of often justified complaints of cheating that they don't have to time to read all the correspondence.
I can't even have fun playing chess. When I try playing online, I lose elo and can't go back to my original rating. I lose more than I can gain, and that discourages any new beginners to chess. That's besides the millions of times chess.com is trying to shove premium down my throat to support a website that doesn't work half the time. Like people want to learn from their games most the time
I was a diamond member. They cancelled my password and did not send me an email to change it. Called the customer service number and got no response. Now they cancelled my username and I have no recourse
The site's user interface is really well done, one of the best (even better then Lichess) however that is basically where it ends.
1. No support at all from their help desk
2. Too many abandoned games
3. Way too much cheating
4. Getting locked into a color (i.e. 10 games in a row as black -- really?)
Website is slow as hell, and playing on any device besides a PC on your home network is impossible. The mobile app is clunky and impossible to use, you often lose seconds of time due to the app lagging on a perfectly fine network, which in Bullet pretty much secures the victory for your opponent who is often playing on a PC anyways. Yes, playing on mobile does not prevent you from going against PC players who are able to premove many more moves ahead, have far greater agility with their large monitors and mice, etc.
My criticisms of this website do not end here, besides Chess.com's atrocious website and app networking, any feature beyond playing chess on it is blocked behind a paywall. Want to analyze your game? You can do so once a day without paying at least $5 a month, a plan that would still only grant you a limited number of features. Want to select the "Lessons" they keep shoving down your throat through various popups on their website? Same story. Want to get rid of ads? Again, pay or simply use an Adblock at least something Chess.com can't lock behind a paywall. Anything that legitimately sets Chess.com apart from your typical "Free Chess" app on the AppStore is locked behind a monthly paywall. Pay us or stay bad at chess due to distracting ads, an inability to analyze your games and terrible servers. Typical.
However, if you think you will actually be able to play using Chess.com's horrendous servers, you are also gravely mistaken. Just recently, they claimed to have "very high demand" and claim to be working on scaling their services. For an indefinite time, unless you pay for their "Diamond" membership which comes out to a whopping $12.50 if you pay per month for a full year, or otherwise *$20.99* per month, you will randomly be unable to play chess. Wonderful.
As an 1800 rated bullet player, and a 1600 rapid player, the lack of features offered for free, terrible service and overall atrocious website and app build quality makes for an abysmal experience. If you don't already depend on Chess.com, do not use it. Lichess is thousands of times better and all its features are offered for free.
Platform crashes all the time making you to lose games on time!NOT good at all! It appears that its from their server but still you have a loss on time.
Answer: Yes, there are lessons, tactics and videos to get your started, plus enough novice players to play against.
Answer: Hi! If you are creating challenges with human players, they should always be another person. However, if you suspect a player of playing similarly to a computer, please let us know their username at support@chess.com. We will submit a report on these players and our cheat detection team will analyze their games for potential use of outside assistance from computer engines. Chess.com invests a lot of staff, time, and resources into making sure that people cannot cheat and use outside help during games. We also encourage players to report opponents who they suspect of cheating, and we thoroughly investigate these individuals to make sure that they are playing according to the rules. To report players for potential cheating directly, please find a game with this opponent, and then click on their profile image icon or username, a drop down menu will appear with an exclamation point icon which is the option to "Report." You can also go to their profile page and then click the exclamation point icon below and to the right of their profile picture. These reports result in an automatic cheat analysis being done on the suspected player's games and are monitored by our staff. You can learn more about our cheat detection efforts here: https://www.chess.com/article/view/chess-com-fair-play-and-cheat-detection. If you are ever again concerned about possible cheating, please let us know here or at support@chess.com. Please also feel free to send us any questions or suggestions that you may have. Thank you! -The Chess.com Team
