The company has established a reputation for providing valuable tech-related content and product reviews, which many customers find informative and helpful for making purchasing decisions. However, there is a significant concern regarding the reliability of downloads, with numerous reports of malware and adware associated with their software offerings. Additionally, users express frustration over intrusive advertising and a decline in the overall quality of content. While the site remains a go-to resource for tech information, the growing distrust in its safety and integrity poses a challenge to its reputation.

Great place to find gifts for that gadget loving guy in your life. I never know what the newest and hip electronic toys are available and cnet does a fab job of reviewing the good stuff.
During the holiday shopping season is when I turn to places like CNET for really techy gifts for my friends. I know it is usually a news site for tech, but this time of year it is a great place to find unusual gadgets for your techy friends. Overall a great site and one of the places I always look first when I am researching a product.
Cnet is a great place to get a professional's and other users' opinions about computer software and downloads. In my case, I use them strictly for that and for free downloads of standard programs like AVG anti-virus, winrar, Vuze, FLV converters, etc. You can see how many downloads it's had, star ratings and user reviews. There are also programs that you have to pay for, making it easy for you to get without having to go to the store. The whole thing's safe and super easy.
Reviews - Cnet is by far one of the best sites to find out if the product you want to buy is actually worth buying. I encourage you to check it out of you want to know exactly what your buying, where to buy it, how much it costs, and if its even worth buying it.
For buying a big screen TV, good content, difficult to navigate - I just embarked on the process of buying a new HDTV and found that Cnet.com was a valuable, but difficult to navigate, source of information. While they have reviewed nearly all of the top selling products in significant depth, they have failed to create an easy to use summary section that is constantly updated with new reviews and updates. I often found myself reading and re-reading reviews because they were in multiple locations or because they did not provide a summary view of most recent reviews. I just want them to give me their top-5 recommendations by size or by specs and let me compare and contrast, instead of giving me hundreds of reviews.
My sense is that they are conflicted by all of the advertising on their site, and that they can't be as candid or strong in recommendations as they'd like to be.
