Full Review
At Pack Hacker, we’ve tested a lot of totes, and most fall into one of two camps: wide‑open dump bags with almost no structure, or overly rigid designs that feel more like briefcases with handles. The EVERGOODS CIVIC Daily Tote 24L sits squarely in the middle, promising the brand’s signature durability and thoughtful engineering in a format meant for everyday carry, commuting, and light travel. After two weeks of testing, this tote feels very much like an EVERGOODS product—intentional, rugged, and a little opinionated.

From the first touch, it’s clear that this tote is designed for people who care deeply about materials and access. The 24-liter capacity puts it on the larger end of the tote spectrum, and EVERGOODS leans into that size by prioritizing structure, comfort under load, and fast access over collapsibility or packability. There are some genuinely clever ideas here, especially around the magnetic closure, but those ideas come with trade-offs that won’t work for everyone.
External Components
EVERGOODS uses its familiar 840D ballistic nylon 6 on the exterior, a fabric we’ve seen across much of the brand’s lineup and one we’ve come to associate with long-term durability. In hand, it feels dense and confidence-inspiring, with very little stretch and no sense of flimsiness. The weave has a subtle sheen, but it still reads mostly matte, which helps the EVERGOODS CIVIC Daily Tote 24L blend into both professional and casual environments without looking overly technical or tactical.

Stitching throughout the bag is tight and consistent, especially around high-stress areas such as the strap attachment points and the tote base. While we noticed a couple of stray threads during testing, nothing suggests any meaningful quality-control issues or premature wear. The fabric is solution-dyed, which not only improves color longevity by resisting UV fade but also reduces water use in the manufacturing process. Combined with the DWR coating, the exterior sheds light rain well and resists staining. Dirt and scuffs wiped off easily during testing, even lighter-colored blemishes.
Structurally, the tote is intentionally rigid. Foam built into the base allows it to stand upright on its own, whether empty or partially loaded, which makes packing at home or setting it down at a café much more convenient. That same structure gives the bag a premium, almost architectural feel, but it also means the tote doesn’t collapse when not in use. If you’re looking for something that packs flat or compresses down, this isn’t it. EVERGOODS clearly prioritized usability and protection over packability.

The number of exterior pockets is minimal but purposeful. The large front pocket spans most of the bag’s width and uses a reverse-coil YKK #8 zipper with a DWR finish. The zipper track feels smooth and substantial, and the reverse coil gives the bag a cleaner, more streamlined appearance. This pocket is designed as a quick-access zone rather than a primary storage area. While it offers internal organization, its usability depends heavily on how full the main compartment is.
On the rear, a flat slip pocket runs vertically along the back panel. This pocket doubles as a luggage pass-through, a thoughtful feature for travelers pairing the tote with rolling luggage. A small magnet keeps the pocket closed when not in use, preventing it from becoming a loose dump pocket. Because it lacks a false bottom, we’d reserve this space for soft items like a phone or documents rather than sensitive electronics.

The harness system is intentionally simple. The carry method is limited to two shoulder straps made from tubular nylon webbing with an internal foam core. Each strap contains three internal magnets that keep them together at the apex, preventing them from splaying outward when you set the bag down. In practice, these magnets feel more like a design flourish than a functional feature. The straps are already stiff enough to hold their shape on their own, and even light contact tends to separate the magnets.
The straps’ padding is subtle but effective. While there’s no thick, obvious cushioning, the foam core provides enough comfort to support a fully loaded 24-liter bag without digging into the shoulder. There are also small external loops near the strap bases that you can use to attach accessories, like carabiners or pouches. Overall, the harness system is comfortable under weight, but its simplicity leaves little room for adjustment or alternate carry styles.
Fit Notes

On the body, the EVERGOODS CIVIC Daily Tote 24L carries better than we expected for a tote of this size. The straps are tall and wide, making it easy to throw over the shoulder even when wearing bulkier layers like hoodies or winter jackets. The structured base and firm side panels help the bag sit upright and close to the body rather than sagging outward, which goes a long way toward keeping it manageable when fully packed.
Weight distribution is generally solid, especially when heavier items like laptops or tech pouches are against the back panel. For short walks, commuting, or moving between meetings, the tote feels stable and well-balanced. However, as distances increase, the limitations of the strap system become more apparent.

The most persistent issue we encountered was strap slippage. Because the straps are relatively slick and the magnetic keepers don’t reliably hold them together, one strap frequently slides off the shoulder during walking. We often found ourselves subconsciously gripping both straps with one hand to keep the bag in place. While this isn’t uncommon with totes, it’s more noticeable here due to the bag’s size and capacity. If you plan to carry the tote for extended periods or prefer a truly hands-free experience, this is a meaningful consideration.
Inside The Tote
The front zippered pocket includes a key leash, multiple slip pockets, and a pen slot. Visibility is excellent thanks to EVERGOODS’ signature high-contrast lining, but access becomes more limited as the main compartment fills up. Pressure from internal gear pushes outward, narrowing the pocket and making it harder to reach items quickly. During frequent access, we also noticed our hands brushing against zipper teeth, which can be mildly uncomfortable.

The rear slip pocket and luggage pass-through combination is a standout feature for travel. The magnet that keeps it closed is strong enough to prevent accidental access while still allowing easy integration with rolling luggage. It’s a subtle but well-executed detail that adds versatility without cluttering the exterior.
The interior of the EVERGOODS CIVIC Daily Tote 24L is where the bag’s design philosophy becomes most apparent. Instead of a traditional zippered opening, EVERGOODS opted for a magnetic main closure featuring two rows of stacked N52 cylindrical magnets. These magnets snap together with a satisfying click and require deliberate force to pull apart, creating a closure that feels secure during normal use while remaining extremely fast to access.

In daily carry scenarios, this system shines. You can keep the tote on your shoulder, pull the top open with one hand, and grab items without breaking stride. It’s an elegant middle ground between an open tote and a fully zippered bag, eliminating the constant zip-and-unzip cycle that can become tedious with traditional designs.
That convenience does come with trade-offs. Because the closure relies on magnets rather than a physical zipper, it can be forced open by downward pressure. During testing, heavier items dropped onto the top of the bag pushed through the closure, and when the bag was tipped upside down and shaken, the contents eventually spilled out. While these scenarios aren’t typical in everyday use, they’re worth considering if you plan to store the tote in overhead bins or other environments where it might be jostled.

Packing the bag can also be slightly awkward. The magnets have a tendency to snap shut while you’re loading gear, which means you often need to actively hold the opening apart. Once packed, though, the closure is largely set-it-and-forget-it.
Inside the main compartment, organization is clean and flexible. Near the top is an elevated zippered pocket that works well for small items like chargers, cables, or personal accessories. Below that is a structured laptop divider designed to hold devices up to a 16-inch MacBook Pro. The panel is stiff and protective, keeping laptops upright and preventing flex. There’s also a slip pocket in front of the laptop panel for documents or thinner accessories.

If you’re not carrying a laptop, the divider folds back against the rear panel. It becomes almost unnoticeable, effectively opening up the main compartment for really bulky packing cubes and tech organizers, for example. Alternatively, you can slide a laptop behind the divider without using the hook-and-loop-secured sleeve, though there’s no false bottom in that configuration.
Two tall internal pockets sit toward the front of the bag. These are ideal for water bottles, rolled-up jackets, or other tall items. Because they’re open at the bottom, smaller objects can slip through, so we’d avoid storing loose accessories here. Capacity overall is generous—we were able to pack for an overnight trip with room to spare—yet the bag still feels manageable for everyday carry.
