Tried the ancestry free trial to see if the company could help trace my father's side of the family as I have no knowledge of them and my father is no longer with us. It was absolutely useless and managed a surname for my grandmother but nothing more so I didn't intend to use it further. I didn't spot that the free trial automatically changed to an extortionate £69.99 subscription. I contacted their pointless customer service who told me they didn't typically offer refunds and that was the end of the conversation. This is clearly their business model as they don't appear to attract customers by actually being good at what they're doing. Even Amazon refund when their Prime service is not required. Ancestry should be avoided! I'm sure there are better companies. To be honest you can probably do what little they manage by yourself.

I am a Bowen and for the last year i come across Bowens in my tree from the same family and everytime i nmake a connection its no thats not your family when it blatently is, they have had me thinking i have another family name of Thomas but thats not true its only on the female side but they are saying its my main name, but its not. Ancestry is a scam website,, they take your money and only do half the job. Colin Michael Bowen

Cancelled my free trial after 6 days. Now I find ancestry.co.uk have taken a whopping £69.99 from my account without my permission. When you try to complain you get a"bot" which just sends you around circles and trying contact them by phone is impossible. Of course, they are going to make it all as difficult as possible. They, of course, claim they have no record of your cancellation. Do not give these scammers your bank details. Apparently this deception is common practice on their part. Check out their reviews on Trustpilot. This type of deceit should be against the law.
