I was given audiobooks.com as a gift. I wouldn't recommend audiobooks for the following reasons. First, a computer option is not available. Second, there are a limited number of books (many of my first choices were not available). Third, the app works poorly with my books returning to the beginning chapter every time I pause or stop them mid-chapter.

Audiobooks.com uses misleading and deceptive conduct, which in Australia, at least, is illegal. It offers you a free 30 days trial, then immediately charges your credit card. Despite saying you will not be charged for 30 days. This is all in writing, so I'll be telling my credit card company to reverse the charge.

SCAM
November 24, 2018

Charged $44.85 for a FREE trial! I signed up for the free trial believing that I wouldn't get charged until 12/25 and I was not only charged IMMEDIATELY but I was charged THREE TIMES and their customer service has failed to get back to me on the issue

I got scammed

It said that i was free trial and things, and that they will all be free but it charged 15 dollars for 3 months. How could you possibly scam people like that. I want a refund if possible

I thought it would be nice to have a couple of audio books to listen to! But since I signed up... I have been debited again and again! I can't cancel my account and have sent several messages but no answer. My first book was supposed to be $5 but was charged $13! That was just the beginning. Bad Bad Bad scam company. I was sort of hopeful at first, thinking this could actually be a useful and honest site for listening to books, but of course not. I tried to get the free book advertised STRONGLY in all the ads for this site but as soon as I put in my email and other information it was like a labyrinth had been erected around me. There was absolutely no way to find ANY more information about the free trial or free book and I am still lost, without an audiobook and about to move on to a more reliable audiobook site. Very displeased.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, use or sign up on this for any reason. They are just another scam website trying to get your credit card info and then leave you in the dirt.

What in the world?

I guess I signed up for a free trial but struggled to download a book. This is not a user friendly website. I ended up paying twice for this stupid website and can only be refunded for one month of it. You need an app to download a book so you can't download a book on the computer, then it has to link up to the phone. It was very confusing. When I tried to explain how I wasn't sure if I even downloaded a book to the costumer service representative she was extremely rude and condescending. I would not recommend this service to anyone.

I signed up for a free trial earlier this month thinking it worked the same way as Amazon where you have access to unlimited books for the month and then at the end of the month it rolls over to $14.95/month for unlimited access to book downloads. But then when I went into my credit card account I saw 7 charges of $14.95 for a total of $105. I was not under the impression that I would be charged for each download and thought it was a $14.95/month membership with unlimited downloads. The app is very deceiving and is not very clear that you will be charged per book and not per month. I would never have downloaded 7 books if I knew I was going to be charged over $100 for them. When I asked customer service for a refund I kept getting the same response and she said "we have absolutely no way of refunding charges once the credits are used on titles, just as a restaurant cannot refund food that has been consumed." A restaurant will refund your money if they receive a complaint because they value their customers and want to continue to keep their customers happy. I am very disappointed in audiobook.com's response as I am sure I am not the only one who has had this issue.

Auto renewal scam
September 2, 2017

They say they offer a free trial with one free book credit. I used it for a 10 hour road trip and cancelled the auto-renew immediately from my phone. Sure enough they billed me after 30 days and they refuse to acknowledge the mobile cancellation. Lots of other stories like this from other users. Don't trust this app!

UPDATE: they do not cancel your membership even after you have cancelled, and they claim to PayPal that you authorized payments that you did not. I have used many apps and this is a first. They initially stonewalled & refused to refund, but after I sent several insistent emails & filed a formal case complaint with PayPal they did finally issue me a refund. There is something shady going on with their use of PayPal tokens though---they somehow are able to keep pulling out money w/o any previous authorization of recurring payments, etc. from you.

So when you cancel, make sure to call and get a written email of them confirming your cancellation. Also, change your PayPal password and notify PayPal about them. I am still spooked they were able to take out charges from my PayPal without any type of authorization from me (yes I know about preapproved recurring payments and this was not that). I have been using PayPal for 11 years and this is the only time it has happened.

TAKING MY MONEY

Audiobooks is a piece of sh%t!
I keep getting charge $20 each month and i am a year 12 student who is unemployed and now has $38 in my account. Theyve stolen more than $100 from me and i cancelled my membership months ago! Im so pissed off wtf how do i fix this

Wrote email about canceling acc 4 times. Always got the same freaking ans. All over again. Doesnt matter what i wrote. Just same stuff from them. And i cant find that magical cancel button.
