Cheese is a way overpriced, Service is unhelpful, Canceling is hard, Return is impassable, wine is mediocre.
Don't recommend.
I was ordering 6 bottles of wines with a groupon promotion for about $50, when a pop up window with a cheese for wine offer appeared. There were information about 4 sorts of cheese which cost $45 without any volume mentioned. I supposed that I will receive not the cheapest cheese, but approximately in the price range of Whole Food and imaged its amount. When I received these 4 tiny pieces of store package cheese with a total wight of 25 oz, I tried to return it immediately. For that price I could by 3 times of that volume of high quality cheese in Whole Foods. After my second email a concierge said that I can't return the good because of bright cellars policy. Since it's against the law I complied by Consumers Department and waiting for results.
I took the wine pairing quiz and ordered wine from Bright Cellars at the beginning of February. I was charged the amount they said I would be (roughly $40). A few days later I noticed an additional charge of $96.23. I received an email where they claimed my order was damaged during the shipping process and they would be resending my bottles for no additional cost. On the 1st of March I received a charge of $114.80! $114 for a supposed four bottles of wine?! I NEVER RECEIVED MY FIRST BOX and today I was charged another $93.44. In total, I am now out $345.26. I have not received a refund and my account is unable to be canceled. Extremely unhappy and at a big loss of money for what was supposed to be four $10 bottles of wine.
I noticed a charge on my account from this company. I called them, I never authorized this. They provided me with an email address which was not mine. They asked me for my address, which I gave them. Then they attempted to deliver the wine it was refused. So they tried again, and refused. They acknowledged the wine was refused but will not give me my money back. They told me to go to the bank. They will not give it back either because the company said they have correct information. The bad part about this is I don't even drink wine! I don't recommend this company!
$100 for four bottles of wine? And they don't even tell you this is reoccurring and will automatically take money out. And their wine tastes bad. Do not do this service.
Opened a bottle of Bright Cellars wine - 4 months after receiving it, having kept it in proper storage conditions... was rotten, tasted and smelled like vinegar... Bright Cellars refused to refund or replace it because their Terms and Conditions limits customer returns / satisfaction to 30 days. In addition, whether or not to even honor those 30 days is at their discretion. I explained that not everyone drinks all of their wine within 30 days, and without opening it and trying it, I would have never known it was bad. They didn't care. So, in the end, they only guarantee their wine for 30 days, at their discretion. Buyer Beware.
The wines were decent - probably mildly more expensive than they were worth, but overall, the convenience factor was pretty nice and I liked the wines.
However, I'll be traveling for 4+ months soon, so I don't want to send wine to my empty apartment (logical, eh?), so I tried to find a cancellation option.
First off, I couldn't find information *anywhere* on their website or on my account dashboard for how to do that. I had to Google search and find the right email to send my request to. After emailing them, saying I'd like to cancel, they said they couldn't do that unless I give a tentative "reactivation date" where they will automatically start sending me wine again.
Genuinely, I wouldn't have written this review had it not been for the wildly scammy notion that they would hold my account hostage and not let me cancel a subscription.
I'm rooting for a better, more customer-centric company outcompete these guys! Until then, just go to Trader Joe's or sign up for Winc (much better wine anyway).
Bright Cellars has an initial offering that would seem to be reasonably priced until you get the wine, and it at least has the varieties right but all of cheapest quality. Then, if you forget and don't cancel right away, they send the regular price shipment and you are out a huge markup of 90 plus dollars for 4 bottles of low quality wine. During the cancellation process the CSR admitted the subscription wasn't for people that knew about wine quality. To be very clear, even the lower introductory shipment is not a bargain - better wine can be had at your local store for less money. There isn't any incentive to get the deal on the first shipment or have anything whatsoever to do with Bright Cellars.
WHATEVER YOU DO DONT BUY FROM BRIGHT CELLARS!. Go for wine awesomeness or something because they are HORRIBLE. I've never been so annoyed. I put in an order for wine and cheese 3 weeks before my event that I was giving. First off I work mornings so I just had my wine shipped to my office which doesn't open till 10am but they attempted to deliver the package at 9am twice and stopped attempting to ship it all together. The last attempted to ship the wine the truck showed up and it was never delivered because "the wine was on the manifest but the package wasn't on the truck". They never tried to deliver it again. Then once the cheeses were shipped I tracked it for 3 days and when it finally was delivered I saw they had it delivered and sent back to the sender! Why, I have no idea but I cannot make this up! After I called customer service they reshipped the cheese and wine but the cheese showed up and the wine never did. I had to go out and buy wine from in store for my event! So I called and asked for a refund for the wines since I had been calling and things still couldn't be figured out but then they tell me there's a $25 nonrefundable fee! Bull$#*! right? I payed $86 but saido well just refund me the amount minus the 25. When the refund came through I was only refunded half the amount and I called them days ago to see where the rest of my refund is and I'm still waiting! Do NOT buy from bright cellars, save yourself the headache I promise wine awesomeness is better.
So I haven't ordered yet because I did research, and I'm here to share my research because it seems to me that people should know what they're paying for. I can't find anywhere else to post this, so here we go. I never take a business at face value when they say they're saving me money. I googled each wine they suggested for me and noticed a few strange things about the "wineries" that offered these wines.
First of all: there was no actual address or names given in the contact section of each winery's site. A real winery will proudly display where they are at, and who to contact.
Second: Every website for each wine looked nearly identical. Even the price was identical, with free shipping on 6+ bottles of wine.
And third: The privacy policy listed an address at the very bottom of each winery's page, and it was the exact same address as Bright Cellars.
That's right. Bright Cellars is pretending to sell you hand picked wines from different wineries, but really it's just their wine with a different label and website. As a wine enthusiast, it seems to me that this is cheating the consumer out of the true experience of wine: history, authenticity, and diversity.
Furthermore: If you take them up on their offer of 5 wines for $38, that drops the price of each bottle down to $7.60. Sure, once in a while you can get good wines for that price. The undiscovered underdogs tilling away in their vineyards alongside family to make a mark in the world based on passion alone. To produce good wine. These are the guys who surprise you with their bottle of $8 wine in the grocery store.
Bright Cellars? We don't know where the grapes come from, who the vintner is, or even what kind of barrel was used. It doesn't seem like that big of a leap to me to assume that their wine, at $7.60 a bottle, won't be that good, and I can see the other reviewers who forked over their hard earned cash tend to agree.
I was happy with the service until I had to make a change to order--I tried to cancel or hold the December shipment since I would be out of town at the delivery time. Despite the website seeming to think I had successfully placed the hold the order shipped and was a huge hassle dealing with the package when there was no one home to sign for it. I called to talk to customer service about the error and they said there was nothing they could do. At that point, I canceled my subscription and thought the issue was at an end. Then today, mid-June, I received an email saying my order was out for delivery! Apparently, they had just placed a five-month hold on the account. So now I have wine I didn't select, another delivery to figure out, and a charge on my credit card. When I contacted customer service I was told the representative was "very limited on what [he] can do in terms of this order" and offered no options to return or otherwise resolve the issue nor remuneration. I don't think they deserve the one star required to be able to post a review. Avoid ordering from this company as it's not worth the major hassle when you need to edit or want to cancel your order or stop using the company.
An adult 21+ years of age or older needs to sign for this delivery, so I had my former shipped to my friend's office where somewhere is always available during the day.
After several false notifications from Bright Cellars that my order was "out for delivery", my order never arrived. It was always one excuse after the other. So, I finally asked them to cancel the order. Bright Cellars then informs me they will charge me $25 to return the wine I never received! I would avoid this company based on their awful customer service. I cannot speak about the wine, as I never received it. Disappointing!
Very surprised pleasantly with the quality of liquors this is most adversiable and wine taste is best. Staff that would be super attention. Enjoying the wines they have chosen for me. I would reccomended to the family and friends.
Everything from signing up, to receiving wine, to even canceling my membership due to finance issues was a good experience. Definitely recommend.
Horrible, undrinkable wines, and the algorythm for determining your tatses is a joke. Nooo! Must be a scam to unload horrible vintages. No sommelliers here.
In your account setting/summary, it does not mention anything about shipments of wine or if you are locked into a reoccurring charge. You must email them to cancel your order. This company has a "Scam Artist" feel, I would not order from them or set up an account if you haven't already. As far as their wine. It is overly expensive and not very good quality. It is obvious they are trying to sell cheap wine and make you think that it is quality wine.
It is extremely difficult to cancel service, which is the reason I would tell people to stay away unless you have no problem getting this service indefinitely. I've tried multiple times and even told them I'm MOVING OUT OF THE COUNTRY, and they still are trying to just put my account on a hold....
It seems they are trying to be helpful and flexible, but I don't appreciate not being allowed to cancel my account.
Tried to cancel my account after getting more shipments than I planned on. Tried to cancel my account, had to send 4 emails back to the "wine concierge" just to get the response "At this time as mentioned, we're currently unable to arrange indefinite holds (only temporary), as our system does require a tentative reactivation date. Because of this, I went ahead and put your account on hold for the next 6 months. Your next order will now process on June 5th, 2019." They just wait until you forget about your account to charge you more.
They always send me some great tasting wines, but personally I'm not very picky when it comes to wine. I just wish they could send more, sometimes four bottles is just not enough...
I had placed an order but didn't receive it all. They offered to send it out with my next shipment, so in a month. It has been 3 months but haven't receive the rest of the order or a refund. The company was quick to ask me to review the wines, but not quick to remedy a complaint. They weren't sure if I still wanted the rest of my order even though I had paid for it because I cancelled my subscription. Would you really want to keep a subscription when you don't know if you will receive the items?
I could not continue do to non- associative health reasons. This is a 5 star operation. Try it! Customer service personalized and a phone call away.
Answer: Sorry! It's going to take forever for you to get in touch with them but I would go ahead an write concierge@brightcellars to put in a cancellation.
Answer: Just send an email to the concierge asking them to cancel. They will reply asking if you'd like to postpone your shipments. Just say no, you want to cancel. And they will cancel your account.
Answer: 4 to 5 days. It is usually pretty quick. They definitely keep you posted and supply tracking info so you are up to date.
Answer: Yes! And they left it on my porch without calling me. Fortunately, I noticed the email before it was stolen
Answer: Yes and No. While the company would prefer not to, for obvious reasons, they are also very customer service oriented and will work with you.
