Last week on credit karma I checked my score. My credit score is 748. I have a $6800 car loan with CapOne/ $179 monthly payment 4.37% interest with 36 months or so left on the loan. Credit Karma / AutoPay teaser states 2.49% 60 months new payment of$124 savings $660 a year! Sounds like a great deal, so I apply. Once information given to autopay, rate is switched to 5.99% with a new payment of $194! WOW! Thanks for the $15 dollar increase in monthly payment offer AP... Where do I sign up?! NOOOT! When you "customize" these options, to get a $127 monthly payment, interest goes to 6.74%! That's $2,347 INTEREST ADDDED on top of the $6800 loan! So much for $660 a year savings... and now I'll have a ping for 2 years for a credit inquiry. Not happy with the bait & switch Credit Karma. :( I posted this exact review on credit karma, not anonymous, and 5 days later,,, it still hasn't been posted. Apparently CreditKarma doesn't want the truth to be told either, that's why I sought this site out.
I love being able to know my credit in seconds. On top of that, I love the fact that if my credit goes up or down it will tell me right away. I also find it nice that if a new account goes up, they let me know - it helps me keep track of all my credit cards and stuff. I definitely recommend using this site. My fiance even was fascinated by how fast I got my results and all the options the site has, it made him want to sign up and check his!
Credit Karma's business model is made through commissions paid to them by companies for finding new customers for those companies. They use a different credit score method that lenders don't use so there's the reason for the wide difference in credit score. For this reason I don't rely on them solely for credit monitoring. I use LifeLock for that because they are proactive, not reactive. Plus free credit monitoring is worth exactly what you pay for it.
They also falsely advertise that your loan inquiries won't impact your score. They do in fact result in a hard impact on your credit report because you are actually applying for the loan, not just checking your rate. Credit Karma makes no commission without you actually getting the loan. I applied for and received a loan from Lending Club. I applied directly through the Lending Club website because I'm already a customer. I have a loan from them that has four payments left. My newest loan was approved and funded on the 14th of November. I was poking around the Credit Karma website about 10 days later and for kicks and giggles I was checking my rate on a personal loan. I didn't have a clue at the time that I was actually applying for the loan, but checking my rate resulted in another application for a loan from Lending Club. LifeLock alerted me about the loan application, I confirmed it was me because I thought it was the previous loan I did get approved for. After logging in to the Lending Club website I noticed the loan number on my account and that I wasn't approved for the loan. Thanks a pantload Credit Karma. I got a hard inquiry and the denial of a loan on my credit report. Plus whatever ding that caused to my credit score. I hope your commission was worth it.
I won't get any more rate inquiries from Credit Karma, nor will I apply for credit cards through their site. They earned their last commission from me. Just beware that checking your rate for a loan may mean you're actually applying for that loan.
Credit Karma was on top of things, the alerts notified me someone was making numerous credit inquiries back to back in 4 days. I was traumatized, after I collected my self I went into action obtaining free credit reports and there were 9 fraudulent inquiries pulling my credit score down. It was necessary to place a freeze on all three credit bureaus and fraud alerts to prevent devastating possible fraud. Thank you so very much for monitoring and notifying. Also there is plentiful information educating one on what to do in the case of identity theft, help is definitely provided in detail. I feel you are as my guardian angels. Love and Kisses
While credit karma does show you useful information like what credit factors are effecting your credit report it does not use an accuratesystem to calculate your score. When my score was below 600 it told me it was 660. When I worked all year at building my credit by paying off student loans and using a credit card wisely it showed that my credit score had gone down when in actuality it had increase by over 40 points. It's great to know what old loans and credit checks are still being reported to transunion and equifax but you should not by any means trust the score that they estimate for you. Go to your bank and get a real score. Not to mention they do not have a real customer service department. Only computerized responses via email. When I tried to contact them they sent the same exact reply to every one of my messages 6 times. I feel bad for anyone who actually tried to use them to file their taxes.
I used another online tax service for 10+ years and have always filed electronically.
This year, I saw the TV advertisements and decided to try CreditKarma Tax because it was free.
The site does have all the similar features of my other tax service and was easy to fill out. However, when attempting to file electronically, my federal return was immediately (it took less than an hour) rejected. I attempted to contact CreditKarma's support, but they were less than useless. My only option was to paper file my return. A month later, I was surprised that I did not hear from my state filing. I had to go online to find that my state return was not filed electronically either. No notice what-so-ever from CreditKarma. So I printed out my state return to mail it. In looking at the print out, I noticed that the standardized form was incorrect! And they had completely omitted the signature lines. I had to go to my state's site to get the correct form and mail in my return.
CreditKarma Tax may be free, but their support is worthless. And if they can't get the correct state forms, I wonder what other programmable items may be amiss. I will be going through my old online tax service to make sure my figures come out the same. I will also go back to my old online service next year.
There are so many "free" credit report sites out there with odious names like "Triple Advantage" that con you into paying a monthly fee to monitor your credit rating. Credit Karma is free with no weird issues. I do suspect the information is less detailed than some other sites... but there are no costs involved. No mysterious charges showing up after you thought you got something free.
It's not 5 stars though because it could be better. My credit score swings between 720 and 800+ mostly depending on my balances. If I have a higher balance one month then it can go down. I haven't used the tax services they have advertised. I think I will stick with TurboTax.
I did my taxes with Credit Karma. I have always used Turbo Tax and will continue to. After completing my Credit Karma forms I later received an email that my account had been accessed again and my bank info had been changed for receiving my refund. I changed NOTHING. It implies that someone accessed my account fraudulently. I immediately contacted Credit Karma. Can't get a live person. Everything is done by email. NO ever answered my concerns (via email). I had what seemed like computer generated answers, not by a real person.
Interestingly, I am not getting a refund. I owe money. So, no one is getting anything. But it also means someone has my info. Not sure what to do now!
I had issues with the NYS tax return. The software forced me to take a college tuition credit, rather than allowing me a college tuition deduction - which was better for me. I sent several inquiries and received emails saying they were working on it, but they never got back to me after two weeks! They have no telephone number which is infuriating. I ended up doing the state return myself and sending it in- I wish I had just done it myself to begin with. I thought the federal return was OK, BUT then realized that the software had put my NY state solar panel carryover credit onto my federal return rather than the state return, so I have to file an amended 2016 federal return! I am very sorry that I used this service.
Just used their tax site to file my taxes and it was awesome! Simple, quick and easy and it truly was 100% free. My taxes are pretty easy to file, head of household and one W2 form, but it still takes me at least an hour to make sure I've put everything in correctly. With Credit Karma Tax, you may enter your information manually or use the walk through guide. Guess which one I picked, I was done in under 20 minutes! I can't wait til next year!
Tried to login on phone and iPad to do taxes. It will not allow you to do anything unless you use a laptop or computer. Not convenient at all.
Credit Karma is ok if your watching your credit report, comparing credit cards. The scores are based on the Vantage Score model and not the Fico model. Not every bodies scores are the same, but my Fico score and my Vantage Score are about 10pts apart. They tell you to have a low utilization, but when you do your credit score goes down on their site, but your fico score doesn't budge when the two models are compared. Credit Karma is free and make money off of you by selling you loans and credit cards with a high interest rate! The people are really rude in the community, they give advice that would affect your score and possibly your life.
Good Luck!
I was commenting on Facebook to a comment on the elections.the site froze up and after that my credit karma unloaded my credit score, my bank, offers they recommended and gave out my address etc. i couldn't close it out or remove it. Very scary experience
I can't understand why they just can't give you a FICO score which is what every lender actually uses
I've been using Credit Karma for a couple of years. I've seen my score go up to over 800. However when I applied for a mortgage, I received my FICO score and it was 70 points less (731) than Credit Karma so I would not put too much faith in the score that they provide. The only good thing is that it is totally free and you're able to check changes in your reports.
Tried to apply for a VA loan because Credit Karma site said I was good to go. Humiliation set in after seeing what my "REAL" credit score was. Thanks and you can shove this site up your corporate asses!
A friend recommended this site. At first I was skeptical. I signed up and had to admit that my friend was right. The site has allowed me to view my TransUnion and Equifax credit reports at no cost! Registration was easy and I was able to view my accounts and my credit score. The only negative is that the information listed is not as detailed as an actual credit report and Experian Credit Reporting is not listed on the site. Also, the site had links for consumers to view loan offers and the site seems to make money if a consumer is approved for one of the loan products. Seems like this could be a conflict of interest but the site does list a disclaimer that they receive money from loan companies listed in the links on the site. All in all I have found that the site is a good option to view a FREE copy of my TransUnion and Equifax credit reports. Also, I listed a link where consumers can receive a free copy of their credit report as authorized by federal law: www.annualcreditreport.com. Hope that helps everyone!
Soon after I joined, i started getting all kinds of sales and marketing calls. Even worse, i started being harassed from a shady collection agency saying I owed them for bounced checks from over 20 years ago. They called from morning to night and threatened me with lawsuits and garnishmebt. It was ridiculois. The scores credit karma provide aren't accurate. Not worth the trouble at all. They don't charge consumers, so they make their money through ads and mostly, by selling your personal information.
I will never use credit karma again. I was trying for a loan to help my mother in law out with some bills after my father in law passed away and the place I went though goes by equafax so I got on credit karma and it said I was at 690 which the loan place only needed a 650 score for approval so I applied. When they ran my score it was only a 616. I mean what the h***. This isn't the first time ether. It has happened to my husband also a couple times. Saying his score was way higher then it actually was.
Credit karma is junk. Not worth down loading and a 0* rating. GARBAGE!
They allowed my ex to create an account and now I can't get rid of it because they say I can't prove who I am. Better Business Bureau can't help because its criminal. And because I told Credit Karma that I was involving my lawyer and the police - they rejected my email. Also there is no phone number to talk to anyone. Credit Karma is a complete fraud!
