The company enjoys a generally positive reputation for its extensive range of high-quality 3D products and a user-friendly shopping experience, with many customers appreciating the helpful support and prompt service. However, concerns have been raised regarding pricing strategies, particularly a perceived decline in value for membership benefits and issues with product search functionality. Additionally, some users have experienced bugs and crashes within the software, leading to frustration. Overall, while customer satisfaction is high regarding product quality and service, improvements in pricing transparency and software stability are needed to enhance the user experience further.

Free program with a lot of contents! Wonderful figures and yes if you want more you must buy, but hey! There are a lot of things great site! Really love all the stuff there, the TOONS are awesome! And plus a lot of free items! Great website!
They will up and cancel orders at random and it was very weird it was an ethnic items that was removed I guess they felt I was using it too much and they canceled my order for no reason and no email or explanation. I always heard they were racist I never believed it but after this, I am a believer now. I paid and it came off my atm card as paid and they just up and deleted my order for no reason.
I love it so much! Its easy to animate! The characters are so realistic so thats a big plus! I would recommend this software to everyone i know! Guaranteed! Its a very easy software to use! And very fun to create different morphs and create beautiful characters! I find it very addicting and loads of entertainment! I been using this software for 10 years and i have had nothing but good things to say about it! This is the best animated and render software i ever used in my whole life and i am very happy!
Ty so much Daz3d! You are the best! Also i am very impressed on how daz studio has update alot and made the rendering speeds much faster! They have done a marvelous job and iam very happy with them!
Pros
Daz3D is pretty much all dreams come true if you have a Quadro graphic card (NOT a game card) It works well with one model, but not 4, and clothes. Not to mention trees and stones ect ect. With a good workstation card you can create series, games and even movies.
Cons
The problem I see is the content. When a model like Genesis 3 finally starting to work decent with all body morphs that is finally released the Daz3D team creates a new model which pretty much supports nothing. If the team would have continued to support the other models like Genesis 1-2 and now 3 then there would have been no problems.
They only work on the model that now can't be used very good because of lack of content. Perhaps that is how they want things to be done, but if you ask me, it's a poor buisness decission because people wont be able to afford that in the long run. Just uppgrading from Genesis 1 to 3 with the base I needed costed me 800 euro.
And they REALLY need to stop removing posts that gives constructive criticism on the forums!
Otherwise it's VERY good. Give it a shot.
I have been using daz 3d for over six years and i may have spent 100 bucks out of pocket for content i just had to have. Daz3d has free content available if you go to the search bar and type in 100%. Most newbies dont know that. Also daz has specials i have gotten several of the bundles for free you just have to be able to check frequently. I have never had a bad experience with customer service, i bought my first content and it wouldnt download and daz worked with me until we figured out it was my firewall preventing it. I highly recommend daz3d. I do wish there was an auto rigging feature like on maya but oh well, maybe in the future?
I was charged for a membership that I did not wish and I had to dispute to get my money back. They eventually refunded my money so they did the right thing, but you have to read carefully all the text as once you subscribe to their membership it will be auto-renew unless you cancel! If you paid with paypal, you must cancel on the paypal site as well as on the Daz site.
Their software is fun to use but if you really wish to enjoy it, you will need to buy more content and it is easy to spend a lot of money quickly that way. Good thing the software is free because that help a lot with cost of purchasing content. I bought for over 300$ of content so far. Just be aware of this. If you wish to try it at least it is free.
I think a lot of the reviews here are from the inexperienced who are unhappy about their lack of intuitiveness when it comes to using DAZ and its products. I personally do not use Studio. I'm not very comfortable with the interface and do indeed find it hard to put and find products in the library. But I have always believed that has more to do with me than DAZ's program.
The fact is novices and professionals around the globe are both turning out amazing works for everything from movies to graphic novels. I'm simply one of the many who can't. But I have created very basic scenes in Studio. (The software comes with a nice library of products so I'm not sure why there are complaints about having to spend money to use it out the box.) It renders fast and provides a range of options for lighting, camera operation and more.
I'm a Poser user. This is the platform DAZ chose to support for years. My inventory contains thousands of dollars worth of DAZ products. I rarely visit DAZ these days because they are all-Studio all the time. Since I don't use DAZ Studio, I can no longer use their products. But, unless their policies have changed dramatically, I have always found their support incredible. My association with them lasted well over a decade and I never had an issue that wasn't resolved to my satisfaction. Support was always quick to find a way to solve my problem quickly. Never had a ticket that wasn't resolved within a business day or two.
But those were my experiences. I certainly know of many stories about consumer unhappiness with DAZ. Their forums are filled with people that want to help though. They're an argumentative, supportive bunch, but they love DAZ and will try to walk you through any problems. And veiled threats aside, you can't blame DAZ for trying to protect its reputation. Would you sit back and let someone bad mouth your services -- on your own site?!?
I'm a professional writer and 3D hobbyist. I love Poser and, while I no longer purchase their products, still have a great respect for DAZ. I've been paid to write several reviews by third-parties who had no idea about my history with the company. Going back to see what they're doing still impresses the hell outta me. If I could figure out how to use Studio, I know I'd be having a great time with Genesis and some of Stonemason's new stuff.
I'm sorry so many of you seem to see DAZ as some sort of scam or hustler. I think that's as far from the truth as it gets.
"Daz3D is completely FREE
Yes, it's free but in all of the most basic tutorials, will demonstrate how to "click here" to buy the figures for $10.95 (or more) each. ALL of the items they show, you must pay for. I think I can make a box for free and paint it solid blue. When you go to click on something, it is from a huge list of items, each one costing money. The Library of items they show (figures, clothes, props, textures, etc.) would require over $500.
The library they show you in your app were NOT downloaded; they are advertising their products. I couldn't find one free figure, so I just stopped and now I'm online, Googling around, looking for just ONE free figure that doesn't look like a 10 year old created it. That's how I ended up here.
Hey, as of my last posing Steve Spencer of Daz has worked hard to implement measures to assist with customer service and forum moderation. Here's to hoping it helps us move in the right step towards better customer to company communication.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukah, Kwanza and all the beautiful things we celebrate this year. One love.
I'm pleased to report that Alicia and I traded emails shortly after this issue arose. The software fix she was looking for was made available within a week (not to promise that all software fixes have that kind of turnaround time), and things are very good. Alicia expressed her thanks, and stated (I hope you don't mind me quoting this here Alicia, I'm happy to pull it down if you do) "And honestly--DAZ has the best products bar none."
This company stole my credit card number and made a unauthorized $4.50 charge. Reported them to the Fraud Department of my credit card company. This company hopefully will soon be shut down...
I can assure you that we didn't steal your credit card number. If however, someone stole your number and made a purchase from our store, I hope everything got resolved (and hopefully they didn't make any purchases anywhere else.) Sadly, it's not uncommon if a person steals a credit card number that they will go to an online store to "test" it and make sure it is still active before trying other, bigger purchases elsewhere. Again, I hope this got resolved for you. If however, you are a customer of ours, and are saying that there was a purchase for an item or in an amount that you did not agree with, I would expect our team to immediately reverse the charge and get you your money back as soon as you open a support ticket to let us know. We have been doing business online for over 15 years, and sell through literally millions of online transactions, so I can assure you that stealing credit card numbers is not a part of our business practice.
This is a company that seems to feel that customer service and tech support are completely unnecessary. The interface is somewhat difficult to sort out and although their pre rigged models sound great, It is difficult if not impossible to get them to load correctly. Attempting to then get help from DAZ after you discover that your purchase is not working puts you directly into telephone answering Hell where an operator informs you that they cannot connect you to anyone that can help. Instead they offer to submit a support request that they then inform you will take a week to get a response. This is not a good company to work with. I would suggest that they be avoided all together!
I agree that in the past there could have been more training information available. But, I want to report to you how things have changes in this respect:
- As this is free software, and we have literally hundreds of thousands of new users per year, doing live support on the phone is not an option. Although the support is not on the phone, it is generally very fast. 97% of all support tickets are now resolved in the first 24 hours, with 99% in the first 48 hours. Not bad for free software:)
- As you point out however, the biggest issue with prividing good support is to have enough information and resources so that the support ticket does not need to be created in the first place. To that end we have been focusing on providing much better material for people to learn the software. If you take a look at our Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/WWWDAZ3DCOM/videos you will see that there has been a flood of detailed tutorial videos posted over the last year.
Thank you for your comments. Give us another, look, I think you'll like what you find.
The Technical Support has no telephone number and may take the whole week or two just to respond; if they choose to at all. It has been my experience that they don't care about their customers. You have to be proactive in learning the software because you are alone and they could care less. They are not part of the Better Business Bureau. Research and read before you jump into this one. Good companies cave about their customers. I believe that if you put the cart before the horse, then, you have to deal with it. Yes. Like Me.
I don't want to dismiss or disagree with your concerns, but I do want to let you know where things have improved since you originally reported it:
- Customer Service phone number. We found that this was not easy for customers to find. So we have added it under the "help->contact us" from the main nav of the site. To be fair, this number will ring to people who will open a support ticket for you and your request will then be handled through email. As this is free software, and we have literally hundreds of thousands of new users per year, doing live support on the phone is not an option. I am also happy to inform you that 97% of all support tickets are now resolved in the first 24 hours, with 99% in the first 48 hours. Not bad for free software :) (Also as a note: we are definitely, and have been for years a member of the BBB. We have an excellent reputation with them, and take all complaints that come through them very seriously.)
- You are correct that there could have been much better material available for people to learn the software. But again, I am happy to report that there have been massive advancements in this area. If you take a look at our Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/WWWDAZ3DCOM/videos you will see that there has been a flood of detailed tutorial videos posted over the last year.
Thank you for your comments. Give us another, look, I think you'll like what you find.
I was very unhappy with the program. The figures were stiff and hard to pose. The figures would warp and twist. Even the simplest of poses were hard to create. The bodies felt unnatural and were pretty much useless as art reference.
I contacted their tech help about the problem over the course of several weeks but they were no help as they had no answers for me to fix the problems.
I'm sorry to hear that this was your experience. We take the level of realism and quality in our figures very seriously. For this reason they are used to simulate real human figures for CGI effects in large production movies such as Jurassic World, Iron Man, and many others. But your point is valid. It is difficult to create a software experience that allows all of the nuances of posing a human figure in a realistic way. Although we strive to make this experience as good as possible, it definitely is not for everyone. I hope that you have been able to find a software experience that you feel is a better experience for you.
A few months ago I reviewed the DAZ3D website, and although my review was not stellar, it was meant to be only for the time period in which the events I described were occurring. The hard working folks at DAZ3D have since fixed nearly all of those problems. As the software and products used with them are awesome to say the least, I have never stopped visiting the site.
At this time they have a super deal in progress in which they are offering much of their most up to date software absolutely free. I acquired DAZ Studio 4 Pro, Bryce 7 Pro, and Hexagon 2.5 Pro, all for free. That is over $800.00 worth of software. With all the other products that are also free in their store, the value of the stuff I have downloaded from them for free is well over $1500. 00!
Previously, I gave three stars for this site. I am now pushing that up to five, because the people at DAZ3D have shown me that they work diligently to fix problems, help customers with theirs, and make the experience as pleasant as possible.
I highly recommend this site to any one who wishes to get into the digital arts. The availability of software and supporting products there is awesome. There are many other features that are great as well.
Just one thing that is a bit of a problem that seems difficult to handle is the fact that manuals are scarce for their most popular software, DAZ Studio. There is a WIP version available but it is broken up into several PDF files and the subjects covered are missing key information in many of those files. Really the best way to learn about the software is through tutorials found on various sites across the web. Of course you have to sort through these tutorials to find the ones that are easy to follow. Even with that being a problem, the software is still fairly easy to use, and I discover new things about it all the time.
Thank you,
C. Major.
Bryce 3D - For photographers, Bryce 3D is a great little tool to add 3D images to your photographs, such as suns, moons, landscapes, sky, etc... very worthwhile learning if you do landscape photography. Yes, I realize it is dabbling into graphic art, but nobody will know...
Great software for newbies to 3D designs - If you have any interest in learning how to create all of those cool 3D graphic effects you see in movies, this software can have you creating amazing landscapes and images in just a matter of hours. It really is quite amazing and you can merge these images with photoshop too. Bryce has been around for a long time and is extensively used by advanced amateurs to make 3D models. Poser is another application and is used to make very lifelike 3D human models. Anyone interested in learning more about this type of artwork should definitely try their software.
Answer: You get 3 free transfers then there is a cost to upgrade to unlimited. I found a much better program FaceGen Artist Pro. It's pricey at $139 but gives much better results than the built in face transfer.
Answer: Daz has a free transfer program on their website for blender, maya and many more. Works good!
Answer: No, Daz Studio does animation. You will render your animation series.
Answer: Daz3D will not read those files, as they are just text. However, the files can be "rendered" as an image, for use within Daz3D. Or, if you are asking about the other side of things, Daz3D can render images or video, which can be used along with your presentations. Both of those formats you mention, do not normally include "video formats". Neither of them are "image formats". PDF is just a text layout format for printing pages. MS-Word is just a text-formatting program, for use with printing too, for direct display in MS-Word, or on printed paper. However, it can export in other formats. (Not to be confused with "Word pad".) If you can put the words on an image, in any form, they can be used within Daz3D, for display. However, Daz does not have any form of "text-rendering code", to convert text into 3D objects.
Answer: When you register with the website, you will be given a code that is entered for you. If that fails, for whatever reason, you can go to your profile page and locate all "license codes", used to activate all the free items which may need them. (Or the paid programs, if you buy them.)
As a leader in 3D technology since 2000, Daz 3D empowers 3D artists and designers with a free, comprehensive software suite and a massive 3D marketplace with over 5 million inter-compatible assets for Daz Studio and other 3D applications. We offer hobbyists and professionals the tools they need to create high-quality 3D renders and animations featuring customizable content that can be exported anywhere.
Daz 3D believes in an artist-friendly approach, paying over $100 million to our global network of contributing artists. Our users create more than 20 million images and animations annually using Daz 3D’s premium selection of products. With over 4 million downloads, Daz continues to drive efforts at the forefront of digital creativity and expression.
I'm sorry to hear that has been your experience and perspective. While it is true that there is a large amount of content for purchase, there is also content available for free. Specifically, at http://www.daz3d.com/free-3d-models where Daz 3D makes 13 free items available per week. These rotate out each week. As for the quality of free figures, there are examples such as: http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/images/53004/ which is an image created by a Daz user by following one of the tutorials and using entirely free content.
Again, I do understand that if your intention is to get into an entirely free hobby, that you might feel frustrated that by far most of the content is available for purchase rather than free. But we do feel that making a 3D Software suite, the only free software anywhere that makes Iray rendering capabilities available to people, is a pretty big deal. Add to that the free content that is made available with the application, and on the website (at the url above) every week, and it seems like a unique opportunity for someone to start creating art in 3D and get some experience for free.
I do not disagree with your point however, that if one intends to continue this as a serious hobby, or to become a professional artist, that they would need to spend some money to do so.
