Dropbox is terrible and it ruins everything. Please please please do not support its creators. It is garbage. Please heed my warning: dropbox will ruin everything.
Thank you for your time.
I've been using Dropbox for over a decade, back when Aaron first started it. They deleted my original account last month for "abuse", without specifying what or how I abused their service (which is confusing since I primarily just use them for occasional backups of other people's data. Luckily I had a full local copy or I'd have lost everything). I had a second account which I moved everything over to for the moment. Now the service has implemented a number of limitations and restrictions (literally the same data set that existed on the other account for over 12 years won't completely copy to the new account because some file types are no longer allowed). They have gradually reduced its usefulness to the point that I've moved to a month-to-month until I find a better alternative in the next 30 days. Sad to say, but whoever has been running this once great option has all but ruined it. Run, run far far away...
This app is terrible. I can not get anything to download from my cell after the initial download. The app is so slow it's killing me. I dont have hours upon hours to mess with this slow crap just to download my photos. Its not on my end, I have fiber internet and I am on a new computer. You won't be able to scroll through your pics smoothly, instead you can click down to scroll and wait a few minutes for it to move or catch up. I am very unsatisfied with this app. I just want to save my dam cell pics so i can free up space from the constant crap updates. What a giant head ache! Wish I could get my money back.
FIRST REVIEW EVER WRITTEN... THAT TELLS YOU IM NOT A COMPLAINER, BUT THIS COMPANY DEDUCTED $19.99 (unauthorized) FROM MY ACCOUNT FOR 3 MONTHS AND WOULD ONLY GIVE 1 MONTH BACK FOR CREDIT.
I used the basic plan free of charge to upload some files before some years and yesterday all of a sudden, they decided to charge me with 199 euro out of nowhere and their support can't find the transaction, as they don't have a transaction number and they can't even locate the account charged even after they were provided with a referral number and approval number too. So convenient for them. This company is a fraud, stay away and never give them any credit card details. Thank you for ruining this Christmas for me Dropbox, really if I had the time and money, I'd gladly proceed with legal actions against you!
I used Dropbox.com to share some video files with some friends, which required me to have a paid account. It was a short term need. When I wanted to cancel my dropbox account, I mistakenly thought that I could just delete my account and that would stop the billing. However, it did not. I learned later that there is a way to cancel when I still had my account, but I could not get back in to use that approach. I repeatedly attempted to contact support and got no responses. Finally, after six weeks of failed attempts, I contacted sales so that I could talk with a person. Even the sales folks are not allowed to contact support directly. They did submit a ticket for me, but it did no good. After another two weeks, I eventually had to cancel my debit card so they would quit billing me. This was the worst customer support experience I have ever had. Not only did I have to cancel my card, which was a hassle, but I have no hope of being reimbursed for the two months when I did not use the service but was still being billed.
This company is a joke. I have been trying to cancel since march. No response back. Going to cancel my credit card to get the charges to stop. Got to love a tech company that hides behind their bots.
Don't use Dropbox, use your cloud options for secure file transfers.
I spoke to an officer at Dropbox a while ago. I briefly asked if I had 5 PCs and 3 users at work and could use it with a single account.
After the information he gave me, I decided to give it a try for a month. But at the end of the month, another official I interviewed told me how many people I was using, the more licenses I had to get. He said you could cancel at the end of the month if you want. So I canceled at the end of a month because it's too expensive. However, despite my cancellation, the money continues to be withdrawn. I phoned, I wrote an email. I get emails saying I'm renewing and the money keeps being withdrawn. Never give your Credit Card details.

Even with a paid service, they do not have live customer service, just bot replies. They disabled my account for no reason. I sup tin 6 service tickets and not replay for 12 days. The auto-reply said to use "Dropbox Community" to get help from one of their dropbox ambassadors. You can use the Community form unless you log in. So I have to create another account under another email and pay $120. On the community form, when I ask for help, explained what had happened, that I count no log on and have to pay again to try to get some help, the and then blocked me from community support for no reason except that they did not like the face I said something about paying twice. Do not use this service if your files are important. Luckily, I have my file on my computer hard drive or would have lost all my personal and business files. I have been paying for dropbox for 10 years and they have really gotten bad. Again, AVOID if you value your time and file!
This software is great for file sharing and user permissions, but there is a complete lack of overall customer service.
I canceled my DropBox account and was told no further charges would take place. I have proof, both emails and chat transcripts. They even told me if I was charged, I would be refunded.
Multiple charges from DropBox showed up after canceling.
I contacted DropBox and they said they couldn't see any charges and told me to contact Google.
Google told me they see the charges and to contact DropBox for a refund.
It's a never-ending circle. They keep blaming each other.
DropBox support is awful. They ask a ton of questions and then pass me off to someone else who will ask the same questions and the cycle just repeats itself. It's insanely frustrating.
DropBox would rather blame Google, who processed the payment, instead of refunding me. How are the employees working there looking at this situation and thinking, "He canceled his service and was charged over and over afterwards, lets no refund anything, yep that seems right to me!"
I naively ordered Pro for a year, little did I know they kept my credit card info and recharged me for a second year. When I noticed the charge and I complained to them, they basically said it sucks to be you... Stay away from these scam artists. It costs them nothing to cancel the second year and credit your account.
Dropbox makes it almost impossible to retrieve your uploaded files, especially if they are large. It is as if they are deliberately holding your data hostage, so you don't drop them. That seems to be their business model.
They don't tell you the size of your all your folders (only each on individually, one at a time)nso it is practically impossible to organize your folders by size to see which can be removed from the cloud.
You cannot even do something as simple and basic as print out a list of the folders and files you have uploaded.
When you unsync a file that is only online it does not download the data again back to your computer. Only the list of folders and files becomes visible in your computer, but the data still stays online.
They put unrealistically small limits on how much you can download, even with a paid plan.
Their whole approach is unintuitive and confusing.
I had to use Dropbox to download a picture that I ordered from Esty. OK, a one time deal, free trial period. I received a text and a phone call that there was a fraudulent charge on my bank card... Dropbox had charged me $119 for a full year subscription after the so called free trial! This company is a scam and I'm sure they are charging many other unsuspecting people. As others have stated, no refunds, no recourse, no customer service. This company should have a star rating of -1! Reporting this to the BBB!
I started a 'free trial' which was scheduled to end on November 29th. On November 28th, the day I went in to cancel my free trial (which you have to enter your credit card info to use), they charged my account $200 for an annual subscription. This was the DAY BEFORE my free subscription ended! If it was November 29th, shame on me, charge me. But the day before is deceptive and criminal even if it is in the fine print somewhere. Come on DropBox!
I had used Dropbox on my Win10 for a long time with no problems. Then I stopped for a while and got a new PC. Downloaded the latest Dropbox, installed it, answered all the tedious questions and verifications with "You're successful" comments. Final comment: "Dropbox is successfully installed". Then when I started Dropbox nothing happened. Absolutely nothing. Am I the village fool or the programmer? I don't think it's me..
Apparently I have been charged for a service I barely used by Dropbox. There is no phone number. Chat sends you to a site that tells you to cancel on another device. I checked and I paid $10 five years ago and somehow this is a recurring billing. I would really avoid this company. GoogleDrive works much better for the same price. I have had it for years.
My business had me sign up for a plus account and upon noticing that they had charged me an additional year I called and requesting cancellation / refund. It was not long after renewal and they refused to offer any support and had to pay for the additional year of service...
I have had a personal paid dropbox account for years. I rarely ever log in to the web version. One super annoying thing is the ease in which you can move folders without meaning to and then the next time you go to dropbox everything is missing. Requires you to login to web and see your activity. Then find that 20,000 files and dozens of folders were accidentally moved to some super obscure folder without intending to. I have had google and MS folders for many more years than dropbox and never once has that happened. I asked dropbox to make this accidental folder moving more difficult a few years ago, but since it just happened again, apparently they don't think it's an issue. You used to be able to talk to customer support but no longer. It's frightening to open dropbox and to see a whole huge body of work, years of work and files, simply vanished. OK they are't permanently gone (not yet anyway) but still I never asked to move that folder (containing thousands of files and subfolders) to that obscure totally unrelated folder, so it shouldn't have happened.
Amazing service, Dropbox Paper is so simple and intuitive! Also sharing between devices is so smooth.
Answer: TRUE THEY SCAMMED ME TOO!
Answer: SCAMMERS!
Answer: I hope there is a class action suit and I will join it.
Answer: Dropbox customer support will soft talk you into thinking they are helping to put a stop to their fraudulent charges, but in the end they actually do nothing. I don't believe they have an in-house system to stop credit card charges. There are many crooked companies that do business this same way as well. How many people don't read their credit card statement in full every month? And the dropbox folks rake in the fraudulent charges people don't catch. Call them, and they say "we're sorry" it won't happen again. I went through that three times and finally had to re-issue my card with a new number. Shown is a canned text statement below sent to people with billing problems: >"I will need all of the following information for security reasons and to locate the charge to assist you:"< > Card type First six digits of the card Last four digits of the card Full name on the credit card charged Date of charge Amount charged Billing postal code< "Dear Dropbox, If I spent the same amount of time, it takes to cancel a CC looking at the thousands of negative online reviews before I bought Dropbox I would be well ahead of the game. I added my negative review of dropbox to the many already online after I changed the CC number on my Visa, of course. And no, I will not give you any more cc numbers or names. Dropbox has a worldwide reputation of continuous charges once they get your number. Did you think I just fell off the turnip truck? LOL Goodbye Forever,"
Answer: I was unsuccessful as well. I ended up disputing the charge with my credit card. It is still being investigated. My wife was successful in getting a refund on a new account that she never used, within 7 days of paying. She is the only one I know of that has done that successfully.
