Emergency happened. Had a friend empty unit. She thought the lock was theirs and put it back locking the unit. (I didn't know she locked it)
Is now 5 days past due. They say they emailed me for payment. They did not!
She then said "oh well, it's not our responsibility to email u". (Y tell me u sent one). So they lie also. I said I'd unlock today and even give u the lock.
The answer is NO. Only if I also pay 224.60.
They will not let me unlock the unit for them. They wanna keep charging me every month.
It's 5 days over and it's empty and will not let me unlock for them without that payment!
I do not have that kind of money after this emergency!
They are unwilling at all! They have no compassion!
I do not recommend them.
I am writing this review to express my deep dissatisfaction with the services provided by Extra Space Storage, specifically at the location 5801 W W.T.Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC *******.
Today, we experienced a significant loss when approximately $40,000 worth of my husband's lawn care equipment was stolen from our storage unit. Shockingly, despite the alleged security measures in place, none of the cameras captured the incident. The thief somehow managed to avoid detection by exploiting a hole in the gate.
To add to our frustration, when we approached the staff with legitimate concerns about the security system and video footage, they displayed an audacious attitude and seemed upset by our questions. This lack of cooperation and nonchalant response is completely unacceptable.
The dismissive behavior, deflection of responsibility, and overall dismal customer service raise serious concerns. It appears to be more than just a random incident; the possibility of an inside job cannot be ignored.
I strongly advise potential customers against using Extra Space Storage at this location. The evident lack of commitment to safety and protection is alarming, making it clear that these aspects are not high on their priority list. Our experience has been a nightmare, and we hope others can avoid such a distressing situation by choosing a more reliable storage provider.
The elevator at the Granger location has been down for 2 weeks. I was told the only way I can get to my unit is to take off of work and come when someone is in the office and they would let me in via the fire escape? There needs to be reliable access to the second floor. Please at least put a key pad on one of the upstairs doors so people can get to their belongings.
Everything I own was stolen, they told me they recovered all calls when o told them to play my call they keep telling me they waiting on their IT…I been calling they send me to voicemail but they will only send me to the team lead. People NEVER put you things in this place they open your space see what's in it and it's all down hill. My wedding dress, my marriage license my whole life and all I got was they mad a mistake and no answer calls. PLEASE do NOT put your personal things here.

My rent went from 68.00 in May to 108.00 in sept. On their website it says you can rent a 5x10 for 38.00. Needless to say I am moving on.
This place will get you to sign a contract for a certain amount and then jack up the rate a few months in with no warning. Terrible business model. Our contract rate went up 74% after 3 months. All communication since our move in was via email (because we moved!) but they claim they sent a letter notifying of increase. Regardless an increase of 74% in unacceptable. Why have a contract at all? We are getting our stuff out of here and we will never use this facility ever again.
If I could give zero stars it would be too generous. Our payment is set up on automatic payments but the company screwed up with their system and put our contents on a lien and ready to auction off our items. Not a single phone call from them until the day of and claimed we were 2 months behind but we were on automatic payments with our debit card. HMMMMMMM... how does that happen!? They made numerous excuses and even admitted it was on automatic payments. They refused to make it right! We ended up having to pay close to $300 to get the lien off the building to keep our contents safe. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
Contracted them to move my two bedroom home to Florida. Told me one price based on 800 cubes even though I told them I cad 1200 cubes. Told me he would price it at 800 cubes to match my other bids. Then customer service called and went through the contract and changed it. Went from 4 k to 8 k. Could not get my down payment back, I was stuck with them. Never again
We got a late fee because they didn't note our new CC when we paid last month. We moved out and removed our lock last week. We still got a move out charge because they 'say' our unit was locked until today, past their deadline. Poor management, poor customer service. Won't use them again.
At $339/month for a 10×15 unit I would not have expected my bedding and Italian leather furniture to be destroyed by rats. The dead rat was very large but I did not take a picture. Just paid the movers extra for property disposal.
I rented a 20x10 unit at the Kingston NH location in June. I received a 1/2 price for 2 months and then full price. The very next month after the full price was in effect they increased my unit price by an additional 33.00. As a captive audience, I was surprised and disappointed by this increase. I was told that they have the right to increase the rate whenever they wanted.
Where do I begin... I fell on hard times as a single mother and needed to put my whole life/ belongings in this facility,until I got back on my feet. I am a single mother of a 1. Everything was fine until I was advised about mice. Not only was there mice in my unit it became a infestation. I had to forfeit everything from my furniture,clothes, shoes, blankets ect... Needless to say I am hurt and very disappointed about this. The manager I will say was very understanding very helpful and understood my frustration. Due to his great service I would love to recommend this storage facility but I would never in a million years not even to my worse enemy. Please go somewhere else not worth the mental despair, financial burden nor the risk of transferring rodents to you next place.

Extra space is a total scam. If I could curse on here I'd use all the words multiple times. I was at a great storage facilty $95/month. I got it in 2020. Extra Space bought them out - they also bought out my mom's and sister's storage space small comapnies as well. I know pay $229/month! My moms? - $330! My sisters? $295! They're AWFUL for doing this. There is NO reason to jack them up that high. I don't want to hear any excuse of "oh inflation" and that BS - you don't raise your prices 100+%. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm wokring on getting us 3 OUT - of all three. I'd rather have all my stuff sitting in my living room than rent a unit with this company. Aside from the price - even $220 is ridiculous for a 10x10 - to raise the prices like that - with no real notice, you just get a letter in the mail about the increase - is not a company I want to support. You guys suck, you're awful, you totally take advantage of people who are already struggling. Absolutley ridiculous. DO NOT RENT A UNIT WITH THEM. Chances are though, wherever you do rent a unit - they'll probably buy them out and you'll see!
They doubled the rate after 3 months and without notice. After calling them, I was told that they can increase the rate whenever they feel like it and it's in the contract. This is a scam and ripe for a class action suit.
This is actually a brokerage company, they don't tell you this. They lie and promise you things for you to find out too late that they lied then even though you have proof and they know they lied they refused to give you a refund even though they never provided a mover. Don't give them your checking account info real companies will take a credit card. Then they just take money put off your account. Not only did the booking person lie repeatedly about things when you call to talk to customer service they lie as well. They will steal your money.
Extra Space storage is great place to store your things. Very nice & clean smells nice. Chimeer the manager was very nice & helpful.
When I rented my unit they set me at a price I could afford but after a few months they increased $80 and stated they had the right to increase every few months! No warning, just a clause they put in your paperwork but they assured me that doesn't happen often! We'll soon as my promotion was up the increase happened! Unbelievable! Now I have to move my stuff somewhere else!
