I will never use H&R Block again. Last year I was only charged $90.00. For a simple federal and state e-filed return. This year I dropped off my paperwork for the same simple e-filled return and it cost me $201.00? What a ripoff! Like I said never again.
If you are a nonresident alien like me with F-1 visa, this company might be the worst one.
Your federal refund will be maximized by applying deductions which are not eligible for nonresident aliens, and you might not be able to even notice these things, unless you compare tax documents prepared by other companies, line by line. If you have tax record issues, you would have some issues, when you apply for green card.
I used its online tax refund program, and I talked to one of tax professionals who reviewed my documents that I just wanted to follow tax laws of the U.S. and requested her to fix my tax documents prepared by H&R by removing deductions which are not eligible for a nonresident so that I can get appropriate tax refund.
After that, I don't know why, but my application was just cancelled without any notice from the professional or the company, but my payment was not cancelled. So I spend 4 more hours to cancel the payment. When I called the H&R customer service, I was just transferred a lot, and I should have repeated my personal information so they can identify me and explained my situation again and again.
If you do not have a lot of time to waste working with this company, you might want to pick other company. Now I can have peaceful days because I don't work with it anymore
I have used H & R Block software for many years. In the past I paid for the program and downloaded it to my computer. This year the program was installed and it wasn't until I finished my taxes that I was asked to pay for the software. I purchased the deluxe program which included one state return free. When the price came up I was charged an extra $36.99 for the state return. I tried to delete the charge and got a message that if I did not pay the charge I would lose my state information. A crooked and sneaky way to do business.

When I called H and R Block they told me to come in and file my taxes and they would cut me a check immediately after. Well that never happened. They tried to charge me double the price that they originally stated but I refused to pay it so they adjusted it. I dealt with Beth and she was very misleading to say the least. After all was said and done they gave me an Emerald Card and told me that's where the funds would go. Beth originally told me it would take a couple hours and then later she said it could take up to 24 hours. Well, it's been 24 hours and I still haven't seen a dollar. Beth also told me that she didn't know how much money would appear on my card when it did show up. She said it could be a couple hundred dollars or more. What's that all about? What kind of system do you have set in place where you can't tell me when my money is coming or how much would come? That's ridiculous. The whole reason I went to H and R Block was because I need the money right away. Now I'm stuck waiting and having no idea when my funds will arrive or how much it's going to be. I also thought I was getting back a couple grand more which really pissed me off because I swear they made a mistake and I would have gotten more back if I did it on my own. Mainly because of Beth and her sneaky misleading ways I had a terrible experience and I will never go back. I recommend for everyone else to do the same. Just go to Turbo Tax. It's free, easy and you get your money in a couple weeeks.
Great software lousy support. Ordered CD, yet they do not deliver. Tried cust support who was clueless.
I paid $100 bucks for a return I can normally make on another site for $50. Plus... I waited 6 hours to talk to someone who forwarded me to another person who then hung up. Note to anyone who uses this site.
A) Do not type more then 70 characters on any line. In fact I would stick with 50 to be safe.
B) Avoid Commas, pound sign or any other characters other then letters and numbers, the system will add commas so don't do it.
C) Don't expect much help even though your paying $100-150 bucks. I mean if you really need help get up at the crack of dawn on a Sunday or Monday and plan to sit in front of the TV all day becasue that is how long you'll wait. We used this service because of the Chat option but realized quickly the option is useless.
D) Other sites do not normally have chat or help service so that is the only benefit to using H&R block except for the work you have to do it's prob more worth it to just go to a tax preparer. Or better yet... take some free online tax courses and do them yourself. To get the best return you need to be able to adjust what you claim and don't claim an in person service will not do this for you. What you turn in is what you get... This is especially important for home businesses in which having just the right amount of deductions can save you big time. (too little you get burned... too many you get burned). Also if your only going to save $2.00 is it worth it to find receipts and do a butt ton of work... figure out what deductions are worth it and what deductions are not.
Warning:! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I have never had such trouble filing my taxes. H&R block's primary purpose is to make money off of customers, not to help customers file taxes. They have several pop-ups/adds stating you need this or that to file your return properly and of course it costs money to receive it. If you don't buy some of the ads, it will prevent you from filing your taxes until you buy it. After you finally file it, you will receive an email stating because you have not updated to our deluxe packet or whatever they are trying to sell, you will need to mail your return or you can't file it.
I went to H&R block couple of years back to get an estimate on my taxes. I wanted to know if i was getting a refund or not. I have already done my taxes on turbo tax and my taxes was approved by the irs. I knew already going in im having a refund on my taxes. I went in to H&R block and was seated with a woman. I asked for an estimate for my taxes. I was not charged. What was so intersting is after she put all the info on the computer, she said i was gonna owe money. So i said ok thank you for letting me know. I left after and that is when i knew they are ripping off people. Everyone dont got to that place learn to do your taxes.
Been using H&R Block Tax Software for years. This year for 2021 I downloaded software and the downloaded personnel info from 2020 and was shocked that I owed $390 before entering any financials. The chat function of Customer Service is a joke, after 45 minutes I uploaded return so they could review and mysteriously was disconnected.
My daughter went through tax classes with H&R Block in Jonesborough Tennessee and was hired by the company located in Fox Plaza. Right out the gate they lied about the payrate hiring her at only $12 hour but reducing it without a wird to $9 an hour. She was shocked at her first check from them, too. They have worked her for six weeks without pay, each pay period making excuses about 'getting things confused' and promising to 'fix it' in the next pay period. These people are liars and cheaters and i do not recommend H & R Block to anyone, either as an employer or as a tax preparer.
It's a complete ripoff to tell customers after the fact that they're denied the refund advance. Why couldn't my tax preparer tell me before she submitted my return. I know why, because yall know people would get up and walk out especially with the insane amount yall charge to file people's taxes. That's bad and shady business smfh. You wouldn't buy a car before test driving it right? Same exact concept. I've already reached out to my state's Attorney General about this.
There needs to be a law passed to protect consumers from shady practices like this. I'm NEVER using hr block to file my taxes again.
Small business owners are at the mercy of H&R Block. Do NOT TRUST THEM. Unauthorized use of our EIN and Social Security numbers from the Block Advisors 444 Skokie Blvd. Skokie, Illinois and also H&R Block at 8351 West Golf Road, Niles, Illinois *******, office "manager" named Yetta. IF YOU HAVE READ THIS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
I was trying to save money this year. So I decided to file my taxes myself online with h&r block. I put in all my information, the screen comes up everything looks good. It asked if I want to pay for extra services. I paid for the CPA sign off I paid for audit protection and I paid for my state taxes to be filed. When it came to the final screen where they have my bank card information and take my money and now they have my routing number and bank account numbers, another screen says error we can't file your taxes. And it lists some vague code reasonings that I don't know anything about. I tried the online chat, I called customer service. Only to be told all sales are final. I told them you didn't provide me a service, therefore refund my money. She kept repeating that e-filing federal taxes was free. Well since they're not going to file my taxes and they took money to provide me a service I had to go to the bank and stop payment on the charges. I don't recommend h&r block to anyone.
So I did my taxes online. Had them all figured out. Aint been paid in six months fighting with PA UC. I want the tax advance sfter I show her how to do my taxes. I get denied the advance. Nothing like another kick and utter waste of money while im down.
File with them every year but no more. They held back the remainder of our child tax credit and when we called to find out why they said they had to charge us to answer the question or we could come in and have them done for around $400. We did them through TurboTax with ease and got our proper refund.
4 years I do my tax with H&R Block., never I really happy with them., I used because I don't know any accountant near me. My tax is very simple., I do not have depend., I do not have any exeption., is only my wages tips, other comp. And federal income tax withheld., every year it is same., so they need only copy and change number and I paid $85
BUT THIS YEAR IT IS SAME AND THEY WHANT CHARGE $122! I ask why?! They said because I have 4 w2 OMG this is THE MOST RIDICULOS THING I'VE EVER HEARD I m a poor women that have 2 job and one company give to me 3 w2 one is $200 another $700 and other $9,000 I'm not rich person!
So I said give to me back my paper and I m going to try gat another accountant!
There are many other options for filing taxes. These people do not have a clue about what they are doing. Totally inefficient, and horrible customer service.
Peace of Mind equal Pain in pocket. I filed my taxes thru H&R as I always do. The evening we went to the office the employees have questions on how to add the incentives for my two sons (one of then and adult that submit his own taxes. After consulting with the office manager they decided how to submit the numbers and prepared the taxes. Later in the year I received a note from the IRS the I owed them $502.18. When I called the office, Mr. Raymond Giroauard indicated that it was obvious their mistake. He new exactly where the numbers came from and told me to present a claim against the Peace of Mind insurance that I paid every year. As a result a letter from the insurance indicated that the claim was denied because the complete everything based on what we told them, that it was our fault and that the insurance did not cover. When I contacted the office Mr. Alfikri Montilla indicated that Mr. Giroaurd was out until January and that the it was I looked at the note from our claim department, and Peace of Mind doesn't cover rebates which unfortunately Stimulus payment is considered rebates, not tax related matter.
Its amazing how one agent was clear of the situation and the other blame on us like the insurance company.
After years of using H&R for taxes is time to look for a trusted company that will comply with what they promote so... be careful because Peace of Mind equal Pain in Pocket
They make you pay with different excuses to use there efile than when you need help you don't get it.
I paid to have an H&R Block small business specialist review the 2019 taxes I completed online, as I have a salaried job but also a small business (LLC, S-Corp). He did not catch that my QBI was not deducted as in the previous year (which I also did with H&R Block) or that no value was entered for my donations. I was unable to reach him to inquire as to why and for assistance amending my taxes. I called the customer service number and scheduled a call with another specialist for the following week. She said that I do not qualify for the QBI for my small business income, even though the IRS website (and my 2018 H&R Block advisor and 2020 tax professional) say otherwise. In fact, she suggested that the IRS may come after me for the 2018 taxes which H&R Block also reviewed for me! Now I will either have to pay a tax professional to amend my return or do it myself, just as if I had used the inexpensive H&R Block self-service option. I am deeply disappointed with both the services I paid for and the lack of customer service. I had a smaller-firm CPS file my 2020 taxes and he saved me thousands. Lesson: when it comes to tax prep, you get what you pay for. I will never use H&R Block again.
Answer: Used to be legit. Does not feel like they value customers anymore.
Answer: No success stories, this year was a fiasco and Block did not lift a finger to fix. Arnold Wipf is the worst
