H & R Block has filed my tax returns since 2014. For tax years 2016 and 2017, I was audited by the IRS. Every deduction for each year was denied. My 2016 return went from "over-paying" $1,400, to me owing $6,716?
H & R Block said they were sorry they made the mistakes. And because I didn't buy their "protection plan" at the time, I should start paying the $11,225 I owed.
This started in 2018, and continuing today. Terrible for me.

Horrible product. They hire people off the street in the offices and the online tax products do not work. If your taxes say filed, the Indian customer service line have no idea why it never went through to the IRS. IRS is working on tax software. File your own taxes and save the time and money.

Terrible customer support
March 13, 2021

Chat function does not work. Customer service number dropped me 4 times while on hold. After 2 hours I finally reached customer service and was transferred to software support because the CS rep could not answer my question. After transfer, the recording estimated another 50 minute wait time.

Embarassing
February 21, 2021

I was greeted by smiling lady at front desk. Even through a mask, I could see it in her eyes and hear it in her voice. My tax expert knew what he was doing and I am satisfied with my return.
However, in the 1.5 hours I was there I witnessed the (I was told) office manager walk around, issueing orders in a very rude manner, not caring who heard her, interrupting my tax person while I was there.
Then she began arguing with someone saying "I can't do that," "do, this," "I want this." etc. to numerous people. Then she'djust walked away, no explanation, just loud rudeness. My tax expert apologized profusely in a low voice so she couldn't hear I assume. He said a lot of things weren't right this year, in terms of management. Yet I felt totally at ease with him doing my return and I've already received and spent my refund. I sure hope this manager is fired for her embarassing, unprofessional behavior. Or if my guy goes to work in a different office, I will follow him.

Hold times over 2 hours

Chat does not function. Calling them results in hold times of an hour. He couldnt figure it out an escalated me to a higher level person. On hold 2 hours for this person. You cannot make this up

Horrible customer service

After going to H&R Block and due to their offer of a loan against my taxes up to $3,500 my loan was never accepted or processed after contacting customer service at least a dozen times I was hung up on put on hold for over an hour at least six times and I paid H&R Block $174 so I can get a loan the customer service is out of the Philippines call center and absolutely atrocious I would not recommend H&R Block to anyone

Just purchased the "Download" of H&R Block "Deluxe" tax software. This was after getting an actual DISK BOX in the mail, that had NO DISK! It just had a "note" in the box saying I had to go online to download the actual software. What idiot thought THAT was smart? Millennials! THEN... after purchasing the crap online, the file to download DOESN'T DOWNLOAD! It says to open the file on the "window that just opened" - - - - there is no "window that opened"! What a piece of $#*!! And these idiots want to charge ANOTHER $10 to get a "backup disk" copy?! What a bunch of buffoons! Seriously, SKIP H&R Block - they HAD BEEN GOOD... now... THEY SUCK!

Don't use them

My husband went in to their office and had to school the tax prep girl on how to fill file it! She had no knowledge at all. Not to mention they were so extremely loud to wear he could barely hear her. And he actually booked a appt for me without my permission I I waited 45 minutes with a appt to be told it would be another 30 minutes before they could get to me
Why! Would I wait and fork out in over 300 in feses when my return is less than 100. Have u lost ur damn mind?

When I had any issues with H&R Block they just kept giving me different phone numbers to call except for I paid H&R Block to do my taxes not for me to do my own zero help from management

Toxic work-culture
November 19, 2020

Over-obsessed with NPS scores by cultivating work-culture of cultivating "creative" tax returns by bending rules and bowing to clients. The so-called "tax consultants" are by large not qualified up to professional level and very often lacks integrity. They always try to bend rules as much as they can in order to please clients at the expense of adding illegitimate deductions.

I purchased peace of mind in 2018 and 2017 and when it comes to an assistance, other new clients were prioritized and helped. Mis filing document led me to loose $4K not happy.

This site doesn't allow to give 0 stars or else I would willingly want to stress on this matter. I found this winning award tax agent on the internet and contact them for an appointment. Everything went well and the accountant said she would send a list to follow up the same day. I waited for more than a week to email follow up with her (not my job to do so) but I heard no response, after that couple of days I contacted the office to catch up with what happened. The office said they would leave the message to her and I waited for another week, I made a second phone call again the same thing happened. And after the third time, the accountant responded with a to-do list. Well, as much as I hate spending another hour on another appointment with another tax agent, I decided to move on and never work with H&R Block again.

RIP off

Looking g for copy of 2018 taxes, I was looking online & got copy, meanwhile my husband is at office requesting help. They gave copies but charged 20 bucks, never mentioned online was FREE. Screwsed one more time by hr. Never again!

I went to H&R Block to get information concerning solar panel installation in El Paso, TX. I was met by a very elderly woman by the name of Ramirez. She wasn't wearing a mask, refused to offer me seating and was clueless about the subject at hand. I had made it clear that I had no taxable income siting VA disability. Blank stare. Please retire Ms. Ramirez. Stay safe and stay home. This, unfortunately, was a big waste of time. H&R Block was a great resource in the past.

Bait and Switch
July 17, 2020

I choose to do the Free online return after spending $340 last year for a simple 1040 return. (FYI you are charged for the state return as disclosed up front) I didn't upgrade to Deluxe $49.99, I spent hours trying to talk/chat with someone. Finally got an automated Chat, It stated I can downgrade my return BUT, I would loose all of my information and have to go through the whole process again. I'm disgusted with Block, don't you get caught in this lie!

After using software to file taxes I had a question about return. Their system would not let me stay on hold yesterday and today I was on hold for 4 hours straight and never did talk with a representative. Their on hold music is very annoying.

RIDICULOUS. H&R Block has had my documents for weeks. After being shuffled from 1 advisor to the next, and delay after delay and time changes - that I was never informed about (I had to call in to find out the ever changing time of my appointment). Today is tax day, and again without telling me, my appointment has been moved to 6:15pm! WTF. I actually have a life and a job... How does this place stay in business? My advisor can not be reached by email, the message says she has been blocked from receiving emails?! You cannot stop in the office, due to covid, and they do not answer the phone in the local office. While I am typing this email, I have a call into customer service,,, waited over 20 minutes on hold, only to be disconnected... called back, wait time is over 50 minutes. Again, they have had my documents for weeks. I am reporting them to the better business bureau.

H&R Block rip off

First of all I drop my tax forms off at the end of June. No call for two weeks and it was a very simple tax return which I had actually done last year but decided to have a professional do it this year as sort of a double check.
I called to see if my returns are done and they can't find them. So I go to the office where I see that they are frantically looking for my tax forms which 15 minutes later they find them. They haven't been done yet So she does them in literally five minutes. And charges me $158. I said this is shameful you lost my forms no one contacted me it took no time for you to do this you should give me a discount. After talking to her and their manager there's no money in the bucket for people who came in later to file. This is a shameful way to do business I am on a fixed income making less than $20,000 a year. And let me mention again they lost my forms.
Never again.
