Terrible directions
January 26, 2018

Mapquest took me thru a dozen different turns in 2 & 1/2 miles when I discovered later it could have been done in one turn. It appeared like a housing developer had paid MapQuest to direct traffic to and thru their new development in order to maybe sell a lot.

I knew MapQuest back in the early days of the internet. It was a vital, useful tool for the user.
Today I returned to it for the first time, hoping to find a reasonable alternative to Google Maps or Bing.
It was extremely exasperating. Does anybody at MapQuest have a vision of who the user is, or what she/he wants? Or is everybody just deeply committed to the tinkering/tweaking side of the company? And to whom are you pandering your product?
When I want to browse around in the streets around NYC's Morningside Heights and Columbia University area, I want the app to stay at the zoom level that works for me, not to keep snapping back out to a continent-wide view centered on Kansas, snapping to what some marketing type thinks will create maximum clicks so that you can show your clients how effective you are at catching eyeballs. And I want some recognizable controls, or Settings pages.
The worst for me is the absence of user-friendly navigation aids, thoughtfully-positioned prompts, that sort of thing.
I want to tell your eyeball-counting clients that they should demand a shake-up in your approach to serving the needs of your users, however many users there might be after this large mistake.
If you have a business vision and a business model, and that seems doubtful, you might want to appeal to your remaining users by posting that vision for everyone to see. Then hire some real management who know the web market and have the technical savvy to bring about some re-healing of MapQuest... some people who will dedicate themselves and their teams to making MapQuest a world-class enterprise.

Meanwhile, I'm going back to the other guys' sites.

MapQuest Difficult
September 15, 2017

MapQuest has always been my "go to" for directions. As of late, it requires TOO MUCH EFFORT. Try signing in and it sometimes will recognize, but not most of the time. Doesn't know Canada from USA. Put in all my info and ask for directions and it either sits there, is too slow or asks me to sign in again. Most exhausting when ur looking for directions in a hurry. Website needs to change for the better.

I went to a "4 star hotel" that was awful (dirty sheets! And the (1) star was a comfort inn that was terrific. Same thing happened with a car service... Map Quest reviews are opposite quite often. Useless, I've found Yelp to be rather useless too.

Not User Friendly
August 3, 2017

I've noticed that a common problem with modern tech society is that when everything is working well and requires little or no maintenance, people start to worry that it looks like they're not working hard enough and consequently, not impressing their supervisors. This causes constant, unnecessary "updates" and/or "improvements" which usually make the product worse. People worry about keeping their jobs instead of just doing their jobs. The phrase, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" has been around for so long because it's true. Why do you think the gigantic entertainment web store that starts with an "i" is constantly being updated unnecessarily? I think that explains why products like MapQuest "degrade" over time.
Welcome to the 21st Century! Get used to it. It's only gonna get worse people.

I agree this new form is not user friendly. Please give me back the old mapquest!
Used the old form extensively. I could plan how to get from one place on a street to another location on the same street.as well as plan long distances. If some like this new form, ok, but give us the old form too!

I will no longer use map quest, It has gotton to be useless. I used to use map quest all the time. I can no longer enter a location and have map quest take me there. They should have left it the way it used to be.

Everyone organization seems to start great, like MapQuest, Then you "improve it to death" until it is U S E L E S S From the other reviews, I've read, and management has not, it looks like everyone hates the new mapquest.
I would rate it at about one-half... CCC

I have now followed multiple links and suggestions for printing maps. Wasted a half hour trying to do what previously took a few seconds!

Who created this CRAP? Are they still employed?

It used to be so easy! Now it is a circular battle with pop-ups and ads! Im a Sr it used to be so easy. Keep the ads to the side and related to the destination like you used to!

If you can't use the site you can't use the ads!
