I've lost track of how many people I've communicated with but so far every single one has been attempting to scam me. Not a one will allow me to see the place. They all are out of town with their sick parents. Last one sounded great and I was given an address which was a first! Then I looked it up -- all luxury condos renting at over 5K a month. When I asked her how this could be offered at the price she said she told me that her condo wasn't one of the luxury ones. This site is a waste of my time and money and I'll never pay another penny to be targeted by con artists looking for an easy mark again. Please save your canned response, Roommates.com, because I can see how many others have had this same experience and yet you're doing absolutely nothing to change it. I'm sure there are gullible people out there who are being robbed because they wouldn't do this if there wasn't opportunity to find victims.
Don't go there. There are a bunch of scammers. They use deception to real you in. Its not worth your money. Stay away from the add below if you go to rent. Avoid the following which goes by Annie in Tacoma, WA. It's not a legitamate listing and they just collect information about you. Then they give a questionaire before a meeting and never show up to meet with you. Avoid Annie at all costs in Tacoma, WA. She will advise you to speak with Sonja Hastings. Just look up Sonja Hastings on FB. Also the address below is 3110 N. 24th Street. They claim its a 7 bedroomroom house, but when you Google it, it only shows 3-6 bedrooms.

Roommates.com did exactly what it advertises. I got on and paid for the use of it. The person renting a room also paid her part. It took me about a week to find a roommate. The reviews complain about scammers, but you will find them everywhere, Craig's list and Facebook included. I am very satisfied with my experience with roommates.com and if needed, will use them again.
I had 4 weeks to find a roommate. I paid for 1 month. I found 3 different people interested and ended up finding a roommate whom I really like in just 3 weeks. After a month or so of inactivity, they automatically deactivated my account. I know not everyone will have the same experience, but I have 0 complaints and I'm very satisfied with this service.
I get emails, open them immediately. Click on my new match, "Jess C., or Philip C.", and the "Profile not found" message. I opened the email 2 seconds after receiving it, and the profile is already gone. This happens about 9 out of 10 "matches", or "messages" I get. Less than 10 seconds, and the profiles are gone(empty links'). It took me longer to actually delete my profile, than it did to respond to these emails. These emails behave exactly like a phishing email. They get you to click on a link, an empty link, but nonetheless. Very suspicious behavior for a website(or the best security ever). The ridiculous names used in some of these profiles are obviously written by people who lack in English comprehension. Your search area is for a certain radius, and you get matches from 30 miles outside of it. The only interaction I had, was with a lady 50 miles away, who wanted 2X as much as I was looking to pay, but not one person from my area. My sister did find a place using it but, I don't feel it is a trustworthy site. Enter at your own risk.

The people on this site don't have pictures of themselves, refuse to meet up, and are eager to take your money. I have never used a roommate service where people wanted you to pay and sign a lease without even a phone call. There are without a doubt scammers on this website. I never, ever, ever had this experience using roomies.com.
Hello,
Roommates.com is an online bulletin board service and we do our best to keep the scammers at bay. Unfortunately, sometimes scammers and weirdos do get through which is why we have created a "Reporting" and "Blocking" feature available on all profiles that you can quickly use to flag any account you feel is suspicious. This will ensure that we get eyes on it right away and start to track down what's going on. We also provide a handy FAQ doc called 'Safety Tips' that we highly recommend all users read and familiarize themselves with to help ensure safety when connecting with people online. Never ever use service of roommates.com webpage!
I would never recommend any person to sign up for roommates.com
The webpage is only for scammers, they refuse to meet up and show the place, they try to send video of the place via email. And ask for deposit to save the place for you without even showing it.

Total waste of money. There are not enough people on there to really find anyone. You have to pay to communicate, which is fine, but there has to be people to communicate with. I contacted them after less than two weeks and was told no refunds. Apparently this is a common experience. Found my roommate from craigslist, lol.
If you are into the catfishin, creepin, swingin and pedophile thing then has Meta got a great new dating app for you! Join Roommate dot con and make all your nightmares come true and more than likely lose your life's savings and dignity on the way! Not 100% sure that it is owned by that robot Zuckerberg but all his Meta Businesses are linked up to this app so probably! Don't be a dumbass and fall for this app like I did. Thought that it was legit for finding a house share or roommate situation but got notifications that some creep or another creepy guy or woman was "the perfect match". I am not into the swinging creepy pedophile looking guy scene but hey to each his own if you want to go in that direction with your life then have at it. Not me, no way and no, no, noooo! Ewwwwe!
Absolute waste of time, literally any other site would be better. Payed $20 only to find out nobody reads your messages and 99% are scammers.
I went ahead and paid for a 3 day subscription of $5.99 so i can bypass the red tape and communicate fast to find a place to live. I sent out emails through roomates.com site and keep checking for a response. The other parties have not responded because they have not read my emails. Now looking in the reviews i can see why i did not get a response back from them. I am starting a new job and i have to live closer to work. I have no time to waste and yet no positive things to say about this site. I am sure i will get a response attached to my review that they will do damage control of explaining why this site did not work for me. Anyone that is serious to find a place to live in a very short time span please do not go looking on this site. Try somewhere else. My subscription expires today and still no responses back to me from my emails.
It's unfortunate that you haven't had any luck finding a roommate on the site. You do have the option to put your contact information in the free messages that you send to other users so that only one of you would need to upgrade. If you don't get any responses please contact us at support@roommates.com for a refund.

I had two good roommates from roomates.com. People complain about fee did not read the terms and conditions. I had the worst roommates from sites that are free. Great website.
I posted my ad on the site and received maybe 4 matches. Two didn't work out and one responded that their prescription had run out that day and they couldn't respond back. Another was a complete scam who said she lived out of the state going to school yet wanted her " lawyer" to draw up papers for me but they was unable to show it of course. Then a couple new matches appeared and there was nothing about them written and no response when I tried to reach out to them. It came across as fake matches to keep me on the site.

I signed up for this service but I have been unable to connect with one single potential roommate in over 2 months. I am not sure if people can not see my post or my emails unless they pay
Hello,
It's unfortunate that you have not been able to find a roommate yet. Looking for a roommate can be frustrating when you don't get the responses you would like. Your profile is visible on the site and sending messages with your contact information to other members is free. All member do have to pay for a membership to read incoming messages, but if your contact information is included in the message then only one of you would need to purchase a membership in order to communicate outside of the website. Responses depend on who is looking in your area and what price range they are looking in so we can't guarantee people will respond. Hopefully you will find a roommate soon.
Good luck in your search!

Posted a room for rent. Got a message from a potential tenant within 5 minutes. Couldn't read the message within signing up for VIP access. Once I signed up for " 3 day trial", I was granted access to read the message. " Potential tenant" said they were interested in more pictures... but since they were not a paid member, they would not be able to read my reply, so I should reply to their Gmail address. They also provided a phone number for texting. I responded to their Gmail address and they replied back saying they were currently out of town but would like more pictures so they would be able to see if they like the place and could then send a cashier's check, blah blah blah. I get the exact same scam all the time on craigslist, but thought a paid subscription site would mean some scammer filters. Seriously? Glad I didn't buy a month or a year. Boo.

Don't waste your money. Go through Facebook, Craigslist, or literally anywhere else.
This site throws fees at you every step of the way. They charge to verify your account. They charge to read profile information. They charge to view full size pictures of the roommates and the apartments. They charge to read roommates profile bio's. They charge to send and read messages between roommates. All that for a measly number of matches to begin with.

I paid for a month on this and the first page had only TWO people that were even in the area and looking. (there are only 12 people per page) The second page went right to people that WERE looking 30 days ago. Meaning I paid 20.00 for nothing. DON'T DO IT - IT IS WORSE THAN CRAIGSLIST.

Just like my other review I posted on trust review... this so called company is a straight out thief... blatantly create bots inorder to lure people into paying for their subscription... every person on the website was was a fake account... they will send me a random message only for it to magically be deleted by the company for who knows what reason... this company is a sham and will outright steal people's hard earned money... I recommend all people who are reading this to STAY AWAY from this company as far as possible... they will steal your money and leave you hanging without any service provided... I regret paying my subscription but it was a lesson learned... I love the internet, but companies such as these also make me hate it also... if you plan to move and looking for a room or roommate(s), I suggest you look elsewhere... perhaps Facebook and/or craigslist will be much better.

Answer: Yeah, if you are looking for crazy drunk high on drugs kind of people and it doesn't matter if you are male or female, after a couple of weeks, if that, they also get this crazy idea that they own you and can control your every thought move and somehow make themselves believe they are not renting a room, but using the web site to find a wife or husband type without the vows! This is not just based on one incident, but an average of 8 years of using the site on both sides. First I was renting rooms and the same applies and then I needed to rent a room which the same description applies. But understand, it is an web site for others to use. The users are the problem, not the site. It is amazing what I have experienced with all of what I said. I would think of another solution if I were you unless you want to learn as I did and I don't think it is a good idea. I would not write this if I did not know it all to well to be 1000% TRUE! I do not understand what these type of people are doing? Maybe they are a little to lonely or because you are renting a room or you need to rent a room that you do not have your own life and therefore they can take advantage of your sanity. I'm not sure, but I sure have had enough of these people for the past eight years that I have moved on to other roommate sites. Guess What? The same thing! Sorry, wish I could give a thumbs up, but No Can Do! Good luck
