I invested with Charles Schwab since 2016. When they started offering banking I was excited to utilize it. Eventually they made a mistake. I made 2 withdrawals back to back & Schwab duplicated them charging me 4 times instead of two.
Calling them was a nightmare. They will not allow you to directly call the person "investigating" your dispute.
Then they sent me documents from the ATM bank proving an error was made but for some reason they insisted no error was made.
It was a very long drawn out ordeal involving many long phone calls. I tried to get somebody on the phone that could look at the documents the same time I was talking to them so I could get them to see the documents proved that they were wrong but instead I just got a stone wall. I spent 4 months trying to help them resolve the problem they created but the people allowed to talk on the phone are not trained well enough to resolve problems. They are only trained to say "somebody will call you" which doesn't work if you are a Schwab customer that works during the day.
Luckily I did not switch all my banking to Schwab. I only transferred money to the account as I needed it. Their mistake just overdrafted my account. There was no money in it for them to take from me.
Despite that I still wasted four months trying to help them see their mistake. In the end I just gave up and let them close my over drafted account.
From now on I will do my investing with a different broker.
Honestly this experience was so bad I am now just glad I will never have to do business with Charles Schwab ever again.
What a superb company to do business with. My father passed on in Dec and there was money in his Charles Schwab account for me to claim. Unlike many of his other accounts this firm made the transition as easy as could be. I simply had to mail in the death certificate, answer a few questions over the phone and that was that. His account was closed, all the monies transferred to my name and that was that. 6 of his other accounts are stressing me out running here and there looking for Medallion Signature gurantees and filling out tons of paperwork. Charles Schwab made an already overwhelmed and stressed out woman rest easier and as such I am maintaining my account with them, and shutting down all the rest.
I actually like Schwab a lot, and I feel more comfortable having my money there than almost anywhere else. They don't make much money off of me. For a while they were trying to get me to use their advisory services (cha-ching!), but after I asked them to stop, they did. So I've been a customer for years, and will be for the foreseeable future.
Having said that, I find it stunning that there is even a single employee of Schwab who doesn't know what a rate of return is. The attached screenshot clearly shows total return from 2017 through 2022, but is labelled "Rate of return". If I had actually had a rate of return of 80% - that is, growing my portfolio by 80% on average every year - I'd be sipping a fruity drink on a beach somewhere.
Most unprofessional experience I have ever had with a bank. They are so pretentious and arrogant. Never inform them that they are wrong or might perceive things differently with another lens. They are juvenile, nasty, greedmongers 2 years after the COVID pandemic and I hope they suffer greatly.
I have a debit card of Charles Schwab. Though I don't use their investment products, I am 100 percent satisfied with my account and service provided by the bank. When I lost my card while being abroad they have sent me a new one with no charge to the foreign address at the other side of the world. They always pick up the phone with a human helper unlike other banks. I recommend this bank to everyone. Before that, I had Wells Fargo, and run away from them.
I like the customer service aspect at Schwab as they have the best customer service reps. However, their option trade chain, or the idea of being a day trader does not bode too well. Their platform is not as smooth as expected, but again customer service excels here. I finally got setup but I find clicking on way too many things before I execute my trade. This can be troubling if the stock is moving rapidly and you're trying to catch the option trade on their chain. I would recommend Schwab for stock/long term portfolio but not for day trading options.
An employee named Michele Chandler works for the company. After receiving prison time in the military for a conspiracy against Ft. Bliss, TX officers, she was court-martialed in 2002, the. She went to work for university of Phoenix whom she tried to defraud, now she works for Charles Schwab's software sales, And R&D, Just crazy how gross negligent this company really is. When I found this news out I was astonished. I served with this nasty, deceptionally-vile woman.
It's a good company, they have many useful tools and the pricing is far, though the 25K requirement for foreigners to open a new account is a tad bit too steep, If not for this I would have given them five stars
I personally buy a lot of the Schwab ETFs. They have very small fees and has no commission fees, even lower than Vanguard. Perfect for my investment.
Their checking account has no ATM fees for withdrawing from other banks' ATM (actually they reimburse the fee afterwards) so it is very convenient for international travel.
Their updated trading platform is not user friendly and does not even feature interactive. For that you are considered an advanced user and must download their Schwab Market Edge Platform. I run Windows 10 with a Chrome Browser and I could not get it to function properly. Their local office in town is great but calling their 800# is pretty bad. I can't recommend this company for something serious as equity trading.
Honest guys with decent motives of earning money for themselves. I mean, this is how it works in trading business anyway, so why the heck not, right?!
Anyway, keep up the good work!
Best discount brokerage firm! Great service and good rate! I will recommend everyone open an account there
I didn't join to write reviews, but I'll do my part. Schwab provides the absolute best and highest level of service. (opposite of the cable companies)
Charles Schwab was one of the first online brokerages, and it's definitely one of the better ones in the sense that they give you a lot of different services that some online brokerages don't give you. If you want to talk to someone, you can actually talk to someone. I think of them more as a cheaper alternative to larger banks like Morgan Stanley or Merrill Lynch. But I don't think it's a cheap for pure online trading as others like tdameritrade or Scott Trade.
