I thought I was signing up for a month. Nope it was a year and when I tried to cancel it they ignored for 2 months while charging $29. When I canceled they charged me $80 because it was a year subscription. I never asked for a year, I just wanted a single month and somehow ended up costing $200. I'm sorry, but this was downright dishonest and I'm tempted to file a legal complaint.
I was also swindled by Shutterstock with their free trial. While it's my own fault for not cancelling after 14 days, I was then locked in for a year at $29/month. I never received any email communication from them during the 9 months it took me to realize I was being charged nor did I ever log in again. If they really stood behind the value of their site, they could have confirmed I never logged in again or downloaded any content. Clearly, this is how they make their money. They were then going to charge me $20 to cancel early... when I complained, they said they could waive the cancellation fee as a "courtesy". Don't make the same mistake I did.
Charge card after one year. Use trial for 1 day, year ago, charge after it, $35. WTF. Scam, idiots, $#*! it!
I was planning on ending the subscription because I barely use it in the first place. You guys can clearly see it that I have never used my credit to the max but when I wanted to cancel my subscription I am told that I need to pay an additional 120 plus tax before it can be cancelled. This is very unprofessional and unfair. I would never recommend Shutterstock to any of my colleagues and friend as it is forcibly making customer stay
DO not trust them, they scam you in to a an anual subscription and do not let you cancel your account.!
Shutterstock will overcharge you and not provide a refund. It's a scam. Use any other stock photo service.
Shutterstock is a terrible company where the customer comes last. After closing my business, I tried to cancel my subscription only to find out I'd have to pay an exorbitant cancellation fee. So I was forced to pay them for 3 months I never used. In this day and age, when you have so many choices, it's shame they put profit ahead of people. Shame on them. I'll never use nor recommend them to anyone. Their customer service is also lackluster. They site "it's the policy". With little room to negotiate at all.
I went in to buy photos one time and I paid about $49 to get "so many" photos, I don't remember how many I could get for that package price. A year goes by and I look at my bank account and see that Shutterstock recently took another $49. I thought someone hacked my account and was stealing my money, but what actually happened is, unbeknownst to me, Shutterstock set me up for a subscription and I am very careful not to get sucked into those, but there was nothing that told me I was signing up for it. Then I go in and try to fight it... The fee was just days ago, but I was told I passed the grace period where I was allowed to contest the fee and was asked if I want a case opened where they will decide if I can get my money back. So I'm going to fight it through my bank and Paypal as well. :(
I emailed them twice to cancel my subscription. I wanted to cancel because I could not download the pictures I was paying for each month. I mentioned the problem. They did not try to fix it. And they refused to cancel my subscription. They mentioned a vague cancelation fee, when I wanted to cancel due to poor service and a faulty product, (not being able to download pictures). If you want to be screwed around with and ignored. Not to mention throwing away your money, then this is the company for you.
I signed up for the free trial. They did not send an email reminder to cancel my subscription, just an email FIVE months later saying thanks for your recent purchase.
I'm trying to cancel now and they're saying that I need to pay $100 + taxes to cancel, since the yearly subscription was discounted. What a set of crooks! They are definitely not good and honest business people and I'm surprised that they've been in business so long. God help these immoral people!
They trick you into an annual subscription with the free trial without properly notifying you this will happen. The only way to know you're being charged is to check your bank. You need to contact them to cancel but their contact page is broken and they will ghost you on social media. DO NOT SIGN UP. Make sure to file chargebacks with your bank if you've been conned.
I may have to cancel my credit card to stop them from charging me. Should not be this hard to cancel a service.
MASSIVE SCAM. Business model is now designed to steal your money. Forget to cancel the free trial and you'll have to pay a penalty which is the whole "saving" of the yearly plan. You're better off to pay it out monthly and hope you'll use it, which I didn't. Tried to cancel again 2 months before the end of the plan as I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to renew - guess what, the cancellation fee was the same it never goes down! Even if you've paid 10 months out of 12 without using it, they hit you with the same penalty fee.
You also can't cancel through your account you have to contact them directly.
Ridiculous, expensive, should be against consumer law.
Thanks for nothing SHUTTERSCAM.
I am forced to put 1 rating there because the review will not be accepted. But it should be 0 rating for this one. Why?
I was very surprised to see on my billing that they have been collecting 11 months that long without me noticing any. I am not sure if they would even return the money. As far as i remember i have deleted my subscription with them a long time ago and I never thought they would keep on charging me like that. What a scam! Now i tried to delete my payment info, it would require their approval. This is so stupid!
Dont touch! Free trial ended up costing me $45 every month for a year. That is $540 because i didn't cancel my 14 day free trial in time.
Of course this is a devious strategy to fool their customers. Close to scam.
Terrible service that take off money for a canceled subscription. And you have to pay them extra money if you still want to cancel your subscription earlier than a year later. There was no mention of what when signing up for a subscription. Chat is rude and blocked. I demand a refund.
Needed to move my account over to the business because we have one account for the business and one personal. Wanted to move the personal over to the business/combine accounts or something to make it more convenient, but they don't accommodate their customers that way. Dont ever start with them. Just use another free version. Seriously, read the reviews... MOST PEOPLE ARE VERY UNSATISFIED. Plus most of the pictures aren't that diverse. You will spend HOURS trying to find something that isn't mostly bias.
I have great photos. These are sharp, clearly focused photos that were very clearly marketable. But oh, the sign on a store that is out of focus? Brand name. The grass that cat is sitting on? Takes away focus from the subject. Honestly? This site is so fXcking dumb in their "review" process, it's amazing they have anything on their site at all!
Free trial becomes an annual plan. To cancel you have to pay an exit fee (in my case around $100).
Amazed this practise is legal.
Stay away.
Answer: It's the delta between normal monthly rate & discounted rate (based on year subscription) x the number of months into the subscription. Example: $50/month standard rate $30/month yearly subscription 9 months of usage $50 - $30 = $20 x 9 months = $180 for early termination.
