We monitor reviews for authenticity
I bought a LV Speedy and decided to have MyPoupette authenticate it anyway, despite TRR's "guarantee". As I suspected, the bag was a fake. I seriously question their Director of Authenticity's knowledge if an authentication company sniffed out it wasn't real. This company markets itself to be luxury, but my guess is that they gave a few people who know how to Google stuff, but that's about it. So disappointing. And "Stan G." please spare me your contact customer service... I called already and they are difficult and unwilling to be remotely helpful. Moving forward: I'm saving up for the real real deal at the actual real real Louis Vuitton store.
I should have sold my clothes on Ebay myself. This place is ridiculous. What they 'accept' is completely random claiming some things were not a designer on their list (yes, Versace IS on your list), then the things they do accept they discount so much that you get a pittance. I asked for my things back when I found out they were selling them so cheap and they ignored me. Never never NEVER again.
I bought a bag that did not looked at all as in the pictures, it seems like a fake and there are no retuns accepted. Will never buy there again.
Hi Cristina--please contact our customer service department. We guarantee the authenticity of our products 100%, and would be happy to discuss the concerns you have.

In the last month the prices have gone up significantly. I don't know if the site thinks it's Gilt.com, but I refuse to pay close to full price for used clothing and shoes. Logging on and buying something used to be the highlight of my day; however, I refuse to pay hundreds of dollars for a designer dress that is from 10 seasons ago. The 20% off doesn't even make a dent.
I really hope that this will be taken into consideration by the site.
I really wanted to become a loyal TheRealReal member. This site sounds too good to be true. I placed an order on Saturday and received my item on Tuesday. Shipping is awesome! TheRealReal prides themselves on guaranteeing authentic items, however I recently purchased a Burberry scarf thinking that I would get the real thing but can you imagine walking in the Burberry store and having the manager confirm your suspicion that the scarf is fake??? The Burberry label was stitched on in an uneven pattern, the thread holding the label is coming off from the other side of the scarf, it was crookedly sewn (the sewing of both ends of the label are uneven and not tight from end to end like how they should be in any authentic luxury brand scarf), and it doesn't parallel with the plaid design. I don't know if it matters much, but the thin label itself simply states BURBERRY, and there's no additional tag that states where it's made or the material composition. The scarf also came covered in what appears to be animal fur, either from a long-haired cat or dog. I'm utterly disappointed that this scarf passed TheRealReal's inspection. I'm sure that even my husband, who has no clue about authentic scarves, can tell that the label looks fishy on the scarf. He probably could've done a better job sewing the label more parallel to the plaid pattern. The fake scarves sold on eBay look much more authentic than the scarf I got from TheRealReal. Proceed with caution!!
Stan: It would help future customers tremendously if TheRealReal takes pictures of the Burberry label. It would help us shoppers from saving time, money and effort in buying a fake scarf, regardless of the "authenticity guarantee". It doesn't mean much when you say that TheRealReal guarantees authenticity and there are multiple comments from other customers here screaming that some items are fake. When I contacted TheRealReal, they didn't apologize but instead sent me via E-mail a parcel stamp so I can return my scarf since my complaint was simply taken as a return request. What good does it do to people when we catch a fake item and once it's returned, it could be possibly resold to the next person on the wait list?
Hi Bri H,
As you know, we guarantee the authenticity of our products 100%. I forwarded your concern to the head of our Authentication team and here is his response: "Over the years Burberry has changed small details with heir labels, including how they are affixed and their placement. Even current scarves are not 100% consistent in those regards. The fiber content and care instruction tag is often adhered to the scarf and is meant to be removed prior to wear.
Burberry also has a policy of not authenticating goods in boutiques but will instead that you send them in to corporate where if they will confiscate them if they are counterfeit.
Examining the tartan and the fibers from the images of the item that this customer purchased, I do believe it to be a high quality cashmere blend, well loomed and consistent with Burberry."
All that being said, if you're uncomfortable with the scarf, we'll gladly take it back as a return. I believe you received a response from Eric on our customer service team advising you of that, and providing you a return authorization, as you mentioned. The item will be re-reviewed for authenticity upon receipt in our warehouse.

I signed on to TheRealReal to consider doing business with them. The multiple daily emails annoyed me so much I asked to be taken off their list. Now every morning I receive even more annoying, a text message. Four emails later, they STILL say they cannot find a record of my phone number and the texts continue. Either their records are a real real mess or they are not being thorough and honest. At any rate I would never recommend doing business with them!
Hi Sandra,
I confirmed with our Marketing department that we don't send text messages to our customers at all. Nor do we send text updates for any transactional purposes. So I'm not sure where those are coming from. The twice daily emails, for our customers who are opted in, is a core part of the way our business works, as we have flash sales starting at 7am and 4pm Pacific time, which is where we feature the new consignment products that we've brought in. If you'd prefer not to get the emails, then you can opt out, just as you did.

The Real Real has a slick marketing campaign to get you to consign with them. I fell for it. If you consign 10 items you'll receive a $100 gift card from Neiman's or Saks. I doubt many get the gift card. I sent 12 items all accepted designers in new or pristine condition. They rejected 7 of them for odd reasons. They rejected a brand new pair of Manolo Blahniks because of the brand? A pair of Christian Louboutins worn once rejected for excessive wear. A pair of designer sandals I sent that had only been worn inside. When I checked the site, I was shocked to see the soles looked like someone had worn them outside.
It took 2 months of bugging them to get those rejected items back. Customer service is a nightmare. You'll have a 20-25 minute wait to speak with someone. The prices you'll receive for your items are too low especially with their eternal 20% off promo. That means you're really getting a 40% commission for your items instead of 60%. That 20% discount is a give away from you to the buyer. One of my items sold and I have asked for the remaining items to be returned to me. Costly lesson learned! This is not the place to consign. Wish I'd found this site before doing so.
I have made 3 purchases from them with the following experiences:
1) One order with 2 items was ok. Both items were new with tags so it seemed safe.
2) 2 items purchased. One sweater was ok. Pretty pilled though described as "excellent". Second top listed as excellent had an enormous run on the sleeve, all the way around the circumference and pretty much unwearable. Refunded.
3) purchased leather pants listed as with tags and pristine. They were split open at the crotch for at least 6 inches! And worn so heavily that the knees were thinned and ready to rip too. Apparently if you stick some tags on items and give them to TRR they don't even bother to inspect the item and just list it as brand new?!? Seriously the most poor condition item I have ever seen sold anywhere. Also bought a skirt that was listed as excellent and had stains and pulls.
When I first emailed they said I had to send it back at my own expense and they wouldn't refund original shipping! Had to threaten to do a credit card chargeback before they agreed to refund me in full. Ridiculous.
So. Long story short, almost all their stuff is in terrible shape and their customer service is a joke.
I try to buy 3 times, and they said me first that they dont send to p. O boxes, but only send a Mail that my order was cancelled, no more information, only was cancelled, I have to call for ask what happened, my second try to order, They send me THE same Mail only said that my order was cancelled, no more details, I have to call again, they said me that I have a different billing and shipping address, INCREDIBLE! My 3rd try, they said me 1 week later, after 2 mails for my part asking for my order, that THE order was cancelled again, no details, its INCREDIBLE the poor assinting for COSTUMER SERVICE, I think they believe that they do me a favor to sell their products, bad bad experience, last time!
I sent several items to be consigned, following their approved designer list. Some of the items were rejected and eventually returned, even though they were truly in excellent condition and matched up with the approved designer list. Then the prices that I got for the accepted items were quite a bit lower than I had expected. I kept watching for my items to come up for sale, and never did see them. But when looking at similar items, I never saw anything listed for as low as my items supposedly sold for. I'm just disappointed, and don't really trust the process. I'd go a different route if I had anything to sell again.
Im a buyer and had no problems with my purchases so far i think this is the best shopping site out right now, prices are apropriate for used items if you go on ebay or anywhere else people are trying to get over on price too much. Your stuff is used/preowned what the hell you expect to get for it, and im glad their picky i dont want no funky garbage, all my items have been great authentic and im obsessed!.)
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Very nice person comes to house and takes 32 items warning me that they may not accept everything. They end up accepting 14 pieces HOWEVER these items are never put up on the site despite my account saying they are in inventory. THEN items sold and listed then taken out. Items marked sold but never appear back in my account. Have asked 3 times for explanation on what is going on never NEVER get a response. I have asked for my items to be returned Not sure what they are doing but if i was an investor in this company Id get rid of everyone and start over. They have been duped
Greta,
Sounds like some misunderstandings. Please contact Customer Service and ask for the issue to be forwarded to me and I'll look into it for you.

Dear Stan: The Real Story is I have talked to customer service told them when I saw this happening to return my items I will pay the return shipment? It is so very sad you could be so very careless with this level of "designer items" I am so disappointed and will tell as many people as I can, so they do not have to go thru this type of experience.
Tell your friends and anyone who has good quality stuff to not use this place I warn you now. Seriously it is not as if it is Goodwill but once they get your stuff they can price and put a sale on your item at your cost? They sold a pair of my brand new shoes ($400) only worn inside for $18 dollars! Seriously not even the consideration to ask me how very disrespectful you have no choice once they have your stuff their pricing is whatever!
I would never recommend them to anyone!
Hi S. J.,
We would never price any item for as low as $18. Please contact our Consignor Relations team at contact@therealreal.com and ask to have your issue forwarded to me and we can discuss the details.

RealReal BAD. OK, add me to the list of exceedingly disappointed one-off customers. I bought one ETRO handbag that was marked something like "perfect" or "pristine" condition. The thing that arrived was nowhere near pristine and an obvious fake to boot: stiff plastic-y feel; tarnished, corroded hardware rings (with separations!) attaching the handles to the bag; separations in the "leather" piping where it should have been solid; the "leather" trim had a flimsy, "machine stamped" quality to it; plus the thing had a really off, weird odor(!); and, finally, some sort of attempt at an interior, barely decipherable ETRO label that was thoroughly unconvincing.
I mean, I own ETRO pieces and know the quality of the brand and this was NOT CLOSE. I was so disgusted that they would have the gall to sell something like that, that I lost all confidence in trying to go through the hassle of returning it. I was getting ready to re-consign it back to them when I did a search for reviews on their consignment practices and found this. Can't say that I am surprised to see all these negative reviews, so I will just chalk up my loss. I can't even imagine myself trying to sell this thing on eBay.
I stopped browsing there very shortly after this initial shopping experience. The website looks slick, slick, slick, and you will definitely get pulled into "obsessing" about the things they offer until you find yourself getting rooked. I'm usually a very understanding, forgiving customer and very supportive of luxury retail, but my first experience with the RealReal was flat-out appalling and undeserving of allowing them to try and make it right.
Buyer (and seller) Beware!

If you send items to be sold, takes a minimum of 3 -4 weeks before they can process them and get them up on their site for sale. There is no rhyme or reason regarding what they will accept for sale. I have had to escalate more than once for them to take items (which were initially refused) from Designers on their directory. I had an issue today - trying to re-consign at item. I asked NOT to speak with the person assigned to me (as he has horrible follow through). Left a message for his Supervisor who did not call me back. The incompetent person assigned to me called me back and then hung up on me! Called in again and got stuck in another queue to try and get a name for escalation. The person who answered had no idea who to refer me to and said she would take a note but it would take 24-48 hours to get a response! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
It took over two months after they received a handbag to actually post it for sale. It did sell the day it was posted, but that is because it was priced at about 1/3 the value. Damn, I almost bought it at that price. TRR has no idea what it is valuing or what it is doing. Either keep the items, trade them with friends or get a tax write off from Good Will. Much less stressful.
Hi Annette--obviously it sounds like you've had a bad experience. Details would be great so that we can try to correct the situation. We are by far the world leader in online luxury consignment, with over three years of operation and over half a million consigned items under our belt, but we're always looking for ways to improve. You can contact us at contact@therealreal.com and ask for me by name so that we can look into things for you.

Yeah I don't think I will cosign again, better off using Poshmark. They picked up 17 items from me consigned 9 and I still haven't received the rejected items back, and it's been over a month. I reached out to my "consignment manager" and she said I could pick them up? Okay not really a problem I live in BK thank goodness, but what about the fact that she said they would all be shipped back to me? Furthermore I don't trust the pricing/commission, again I was told one thing and now its another something just isn't adding up, ( and I understand overhead, really I do) but I'll chalk this up as a loss. I have to say that the items did moved rather quickly,( well sortof I will save story for the next review) but hey I'm on Poshmark too and sold at least 15 items this past month there, just thought I would give TRR a try and I am very dissatisfied, I hope the payout goes well. I really hope they get better as a company, ( just hate I have to be apart of thier growing pains) and I wish I had of read reviews before consigning
Hi Lucille,
I'm sorry to hear that your experience as a consignor with us has not been great. I'd be interested in hearing more detail so that we can address your issues. Regarding return of your items, one of our warehouses did fall behind in shipping consignor returns, but they are now current. It would be a shame for you to not access the world's largest market for online luxury consignment. Please contact us at contact@therealreal.com and ask to be forwarded to me so that we can discuss.

Recently purchased a handbag from TRR but the condition of the bag did not match the description provided on their site. Yet, they refused to give me a refund or credit. Horrible experience. Stay way from this company!
Karen--if the condition of the handbag indeed did not match the description and the photos on our website, then we would of course honor a return and refund. Please contact customer service again and ask for me so we can discuss.

I cannot beleive the BBB has not investigated this site and hasn't shut it down. I have bought from them and consigned with them and both experiences have been horrific and almost criminal. Consigning is the biggest problem with this site and their policies change daily to the extent that they almost steal from you.
Bought a pricey watch which was scuffed and broken. Got a full refund but didn't appreciate having to return a watch advertised as perfect. Supposedly they have a watch expert that checks each watch. Not true. The "watch expert" did not return my call. I checked and the same watch is back up for sale. I am thankful that I at least got my money back. Avoid this company!
Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Please feel free to reach out to us if this does not answer your questions or if you feel that the explanations provided were not applicable to your situation. You can reach out to our Customer Service Department at (855) 435 5893 from 8am to 5pm (PST). If you would like to speak to a supervisor directly, please feel free to ask for Caitlin from our NJ office. She is available from 9am to 6pm (EST) and of course you can reach us via email at: customerservice@therealreal.com.
Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,
Answer: Hello, We are sorry to hear of your concerns. If you can please send us your order number or email address we will happily research this further.
Answer: Hi Frank, Thank you for reaching out. We apologize you have seen more negative than positive reviews. We would be pleased to advise you on our consignment process and share a little more insight about the RealReal.
Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
Answer: I have returned things with no hassle at all.
The RealReal is the leader in authenticated luxury consignment. With an expert behind every item, we ensure everything we sell is 100% real. As a sustainable company, we give new life to pieces by brands from Chanel to Cartier, and hundreds more. Exten...
Jennifer--I don't see a record of any recent customer service calls about an LV Speedy. Please call and ask for me directly and I'll ensure that your situation gets handled properly. And yes, we do guarantee the authenticity of our products 100%.
