Phone calls and texts did not work. There was an extreme lack of communication until I typed a review. After that, I received contact within 2 hours. They apologized for their lateness and quickly got my paperwork and marketing packages sent out. Thanks to Howard Chow and Jaeyoung Chon for their efforts.
Everything started very well and i was pleased. I paid for each service they offered to me even the fast trac system for additional fees that was approved by the us patent office so i wouldn't have to wait 12 months. Patent examiner rejected my utility patent why offer that service if your going to automatically get rejected. That was a waste money. So i paid additional fees to appeal the patent that almost 2 months i havent heard back from Howard or jay. I have sent emails with no response. I tried to look up the patent pending application on the us patent website and it doesn't exist or even give a patent pending status. It has cost me everything i have to trust this firm i live low income and i am disabled since birth so gathering funds was very difficult. I guess we will wait and see. It's hard to trust people from another state.
Stan, we're working on the response arguments to the patent office and it's on track to be ready before the due date to respond. Your patent attorney will call you Monday to go over everything and answer all your questions, but rest assured everything is on track and in progress. If you ever need to communicate with us, remember we have a live staff manning our phones Monday-Friday 10AM-7PM Eastern. All you have to do is call and we will pick up the phone and answer your question or make sure the right person gets back to you. Will update you tomorrow!
Hardworking, understanding and work with their clients to get the job done. Will recommend them anytime to anyone wanting a patent application
Great experience overall. Worked with Ryan Iffland - he was prompt and responsive to guide the process.
This is the second time we've used Thoughts to Paper. The entire process is always very streamlined and professional. They also balance all of this by being very committed to your project, easy to talk to, and can explain and answer questions and concerns so you can get the best protection possible.
We wouldn't use anyone else.
I first approached Thoughts to Paper to understand how to file a patent and see if they could help me navigate the process. A year later I have obtained a provisional patent and just filed for my first utility patent. I couldn't have done it without them. I will definitely be using them for my next big idea and recommend them to anyone who is interested in obtaining a patent, especially if you do not have any experience.
The people of Thoughts to Paper are truly professionals, They did a thorough job putting together all the needed material to file my application in the allotted time frame, which I would not have been able to do without their expertise. Thank you again! Roger A. Salem Or.
My review is in the culmination of 4 years of working with Thoughts to Paper: They will nickel & dime you, provide subpar service, which will lead to further required actions so they can nickel and dime you more. I originally had them do a Patent Search, advertised as 5-8 days, I checked in after 2 weeks and was told it would be ready the next day. It was another week before I received it. The "Patent Engineer" grabbed the first 3 patents he could find with basic search terms from my invention, none of which even closely related and he contradicted himself in his own report. The WIPO and USPTO examiners found multiple similar prior arts – zero overlap with TTP. I paid $449 for the provisional patent, a year later another $3k for a PCT (zero discounts for work already completed). The review came back that Claim #1 described NOTHING original in my invention – basically described the current market space. That's when I learned Claim #1 HAS to pass the requirements or the entire patent is rejected. I paid a "professional" firm to write it because I assumed they would know these things. Another year I pay them to file the USPTO Utility patent (they rearranged a few claims, and submitted it. They charged me another $2500 for what I already paid $3000 for them to do). I hear nothing for 4 months, I ask for an update and they rush me a draft in a day (be prepared to be ignored and then receive rushed work). When the patent examiner missed the amendments, they charged me a $750 retainer to call/email the examiner (I received the communication summary from USPTO, it was VERY brief). The Patent is finally approved! They charge me ANOTHER $595 to file the Allowance Fee (it's a 1-page form already 90% filled in by the USPTO. When you ask their Online Chat they claim the $3k fee covers all services to receive granted patent, pure lies). The retainer was completely used up to tell the patent examiner "you forgot to read the amendments" which he immediately recognized (45min Email, 45 phone, 1hr doc drafting, 30min case history research, 15 min admin tasks. There was no back and forth). The patent is granted – I'm patiently waiting for weeks. Turns out it has been sitting in their mailroom, instead of being mailed to me. Then they tell me it normally takes them a MONTH to forward patent letters. Talking to 2 of their paralegals one stated ALL physical mail goes directly to the client because they receive digital copies from USPTO, while another states clients receive NO physical mail. Infuriatingly unorganized and incompetent.
Unfortunately, a client that is upset about paying fees to professionals for the time it takes to obtain a patent. The patent process is that, a process, one that requires back and forth with the patent office. Sometimes, as in this case, the patent office even makes mistakes, and we have to tell the patent office those mistakes. This all requires labor which we deserve to be compensated for. This client wanted us to do work for free, which unfortunately we could not do. In the end, we are glad to add him to our list of over 3,000 patents we have obtained for clients over our 14 years in business.
Thoughts To Paper was incredibly courteous and attentive to my concerns as well as my project. They helped me with each section of my project to the end. I was truly grateful for the swift response to my email and phone calls. L I truly thank Jay Chiao, Minu Manoharan, Tim, Trent Bolar, Nicholas Kim and Tony Chow. You guys rock!
These guys know their stuff! I have used other patent firms previously and that afforded me the confidence to know TTP is leaps and bounds ahead of the game. They actually seem to care as opposed to just being the obligatory paper-filler-outer that is needed to file patents. They discussed all the options with me and made sure we were not just on the same page, but that the patent was as strong as it could be. I am thrilled I decided to use TTP for my process. I will use them over and again in the future I am sure.
They're a great value in every way. Great service, communication insight and integrity. I was referred by another one of their satisfied customers. This is all they do, and it shows. Highly Recommended.

Thoughts to Paper did a good job of getting my design patent. I will hire them to get my utility patent.
We worked diligently with Thoughts to Paper and through constant exchanges to achieve thoroughness and accuracy we were able to get good results. They listened carefully and were able to translate our thoughts.
My design patent application was done by experienced professionals, done quickly, and the design patent application pricing was cheaper than others and affordable. Would recommend this app and company to all my friends who are interested in patent invention services!
Mark Pang always replies to my emails promptly. When I made phone calls to their office, their staff was highly professional and accommodating. The final result of their work for me was meticulous and well formatted.

I am very happy with the service that I received from Thoughts To Paper. They helped me protect my invention with the utmost care and expertise. I recommend them if you are seeking a professional firm to support you with your Patent Process. My patent got approved!
AMK
I had no idea what to expect... and was very pleasantly surprised that I was truly supported through the entire process by patient, smart people.
I'm no engineer and my design changed during the process... my communication skills are average... my Patent Engineer (Minu!) worked hard to understand my invention and keep me on deadline.
I never had to push them to work, they never seemed rushed or impatient.
I strongly recommended Thoughts To Paper.

Answer: You should apply for a patent application first. This secures your place in line with the US Patent Office so you can tell the company you pitch to that your product is "patent pending". This way, if that company steals your idea and files a patent of their own, they will be second in line after you, since you applied for the patent application first. A provisional patent application only lasts for 12 months though, and it must be converted to a non-provisional patent app before the 12 month expires, to keep the protection. However, this route of the provisional patent app, at least gives you 12 months to test the waters before you need to decide to commit to a full more expensive non-provisional app. Give us a call during normal business hours and we'll be happy to answer any further questions or get you started.
Answer: Roberto, yes, you could file a provisional application first and get 12 months to figure more details out. However, keep in mind that the provisional application can only protect what you include in the application, the information you have already figured out. For example, if you only have a basic idea and the details are unknown, you could file the provisional application for just the idea without the details yet. However, those details would not be protected in the application because they are not disclosed in the application. Put more simply, you can only protect what you know and put into the provisional application. What this means is, lets say you file the provisional application then 2 months later you figure out some critical details of your invention. You must be careful about disclosing those details you figured out 2 months after filing the provisional application. Because those details were not included in the provisional application, they are not protected yet. We would add those details when you convert the provisional application into a non-provisional application and only then, would those details be protected. We offer a professional level service for the provisional patent application which allows you to chat with one of our engineers. We can help you figure out a bit more detail than you may have so that you file a provisional application with as much detail as we can figure out at this time. This ensures that your provisional application covers as much as we can. Any additional details you figure out later, well put it into the non-provisional patent application when you decide to file that application, prior to the expiration of your provisional application. Hope that helps! Give us a ring during normal business hours and well be happy to help!
Answer: Ken, that's a tough question without looking at your invention and understanding your situation further. Please give us a call during business hours at 240-523-4321 and we'll be happy to chat and see if we can assist.

Answer: Patenting is our specialty, we are a patent firm with patent attorneys and agents. You would look for an invention manufacturer separately, or we can refer some that we know. However, we don't do manufacturing ourselves since we're a law firm.
Answer: Francisco, we don't assist with building a prototype, please seek other resources. We are a patent firm and can assist with filing a patent application to try and obtain a patent for your invention.

Gary, I apologize for getting work done slower than anticipated. We've had a lot of inventors coming to us recently with the start of the new year and we never want to sacrifice quality so our production times are slower than usual. Please know that it is because we want to do good work, as opposed to fast work. I would rather get it done right and a bit slower, than to do sloppy work, I hope you can appreciate that.
Note that we always pick up the phone 10AM-7PM Eastern, Monday-Friday. If you are unable to reach someone in particular at a specific moment, please call in 240-523-4321 and press 0 to speak to a live person. We'll make sure we get you taken care of eventually.
I've look at your file and will have someone reach out to you today to make sure everything is on track.
