Bhutan: For 15 days in September 2010, our party had a superb traveling experience with an energetic, college grad, good English-speaking guide and driver from Wind Horse Tours, traversing from Paro to Trashigang then to India. Yes, a few long day drives but offset by hikes, 11 dzongs, temples, chortens, monasteries, nunneries, an art school, a weaving school, archery contest, practicing English with darling middleschoolers, rice wine with the lama, etc. etc. For us, it was the trip of a lifetime in a small private tour with lots of customized attention. A few fancier lodge hotels in the west, but all accomodations in the East are lesser so (we were warned)--but all with showers, hot water and Western toilets. All 6 of us felt a great sense of camaraderie with our Wind Horse staff in this magical and mystical Bhutan.
