Would not recommend!
January 18, 2026

Very poor quality control. I would not recommend making a purchase from Blue Nile. My tentative marriage proposal date and trip have been ruined. Now I'm going to have to scramble to make new plans. Make life easier on yourself, save yourself from disappointment, and simply buy from a good local brick and mortar Jewelry store. This way you can actually see what it is that you're actually purchasing.

Blue Nile Bad experience
December 26, 2025

We purchased a Floral Ellipse Diamond Cathedral ring (14k rose gold, 1/3 ct) from Blue Nile in July 2025, paying €3,613 plus over €700 in import taxes to Malta via UPS. The ring looked beautiful, and the diamond itself was nice — however, our experience afterward was extremely disappointing and stressful.

By September (on my birthday, 30 September), after only a short period of normal wear, one of the prongs broke and the diamond fell out. Thankfully, we were incredibly lucky to find the diamond the same day. We immediately contacted Blue Nile customer support.

From that moment on, the process became exhausting and poorly handled:
The export paperwork for repair was incorrectly handled, which later caused major customs problems.
We waited over a month, only to be told that due to a manufacturing issue they would remake the ring entirely — but our original engraving was missing.
Delivery dates kept changing, and we were repeatedly told it was due to system errors or the busy Christmas period.
Despite clearly explaining that we needed the ring before our wedding on 15 December, we had to constantly push customer support to get any updates.

The ring finally arrived on 2 December, but then became stuck with UPS due to documentation issues. Neither UPS nor Blue Nile took clear responsibility, and communication was extremely slow and unclear. We spent days emailing, calling, and using chat — often receiving no real solution.

In the end, UPS demanded that we pay import tax AGAIN (over €700) to release the ring, as it was not correctly recognized as a repaired item. We had done nothing wrong — we were simply customers who bought a ring and followed Blue Nile's instructions. Because of this, we had our wedding without my engagement ring.

Only after escalating the issue to UPS managers and Blue Nile managers, and after repeated angry emails asking for the correct repair invoice, was the situation finally resolved. This entire ordeal could have been avoided with proper documentation, clearer communication, and proactive customer support.

Now, after everything we went through, I am honestly afraid to wear the ring, worried that the diamond could fall out again. This was supposed to be a lifelong piece of jewelry and a meaningful symbol — instead, it became a source of anxiety and disappointment.

Blue Nile may sell beautiful designs, but our experience showed serious issues with craftsmanship, quality control, international repair handling, and customer support follow-through. For a ring at this price point, this level of stress is unacceptable.

Bad experience with damaged ring
September 13, 2024

I recently purchased two wedding rings from Blue Nile, having them shipped all the way to London from the United States. Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing. Upon receiving the rings, I noticed that the bride's ring had a noticeable black mark on the inside—something that should have been caught during a proper inspection before shipping.

When I contacted customer service, the options they provided were far from satisfactory. They offered to send the ring back for repair, but this would take an unacceptable two months, leaving me close to my wedding abroad in the Philippines with no guarantee of having the ring in time. Their other options were just as disappointing: either accept a refund for the flawed ring, which would leave me with one unmatched ring, or pay out of pocket to have it repaired by a local jeweler in London.

Given the distance this ring had to travel, it's frustrating that Blue Nile did not take the necessary care to ensure everything was perfect. The lack of a viable solution and the long wait for repairs have left me deeply unsatisfied. I expected better quality control and customer service from a company with such a reputation, especially when dealing with something as important as wedding rings.

I purchased a blue nile wedding band and everything went well until a few weeks in when it got scratched. It's a tungsten band, but I figured I'd live with it. Then after only having the ring for three years it has cracked. There was a lifetime guarantee when I bought the band and free repairs. Blue Nile is unable to honor either of those commitments. I am severely disappointed in their customer service and the quality of the ring. They no longer sell the particular band on the website, so I assume they realized it was a flawed product—which I hate to say because it's my wedding band and has a great deal of sentimental value for me.

They trick you in buying their products, take your money and then do not ship for the prior discussed and promised shipping date. Prices seem to be good but this whole thing is like a scam. Poor sales people in the blue nile shops that have to sell this scam. STAY AWAY and buy local from your store!

We have purchased jewelry from Blue Nile in the past, including our wedding rings. The past 3 purchases we made online stated, "IN STOCK" with a promised delivery date. On each delivery date, Blue Nile states shipment is delayed. Two to three weeks later, we get an email from them stating the items are unavailable and a refund will be issued at a later time. Having to wait at least 3 weeks to get our $6,400+ refund is not acceptable. Blue Nile has lost its reputation and we no longer recommend them to our friends. We highly recommend James Allen, Brilliant Earth, or David Yurman for reliability and quality.

Bought a ring, received it and had to resize it. Nightmare began...4 months to receive it back.
In this timeframe, I paid import duties on the first shipment, import duties to send it back into USA (due to BlueNile missing information on shipping documents), finally import taxes again on the third shipment to get the new ring (again BlueNile responsibility).
In all of this, BlueNile customer care team replied emails for the sake of replying, they couldn't care less nor moved a finger to help with any of this.
I'm do disappointed I bought from these unprofessional people. Stay away for your own peace!

Feel mislead
October 17, 2023

I bought anniversary ring for $1300 marked down from $3,200 original sales price. I knew it wasn't worth $3200 buy thought u was getting a good deal. A few weeks later the sale ended and the ring was still marked at $1300. I can't help but feel mislead by this false pricing sales tactic.

Blue Nile Doesn't Care
November 1, 2022

I bought a necklace from BN. The matching earrings had been discontinued, but I found them on another site, in perfect condition. The first necklace sent was the wrong one. Thinking this mistake was a fluke, I sent the necklace back and ordered another. Again, the wrong necklace was sent. To make matters worse, BN would not agree that the wrong necklace was sent... twice... but finally confirmed that I was right. By this time, the necklace was on backorder. One date after another passed... while the return window for the earrings had closed. Finally, the necklace was discontinued. Customer Service provided the usual platitudes. One even told me to look for the necklace on Claires.com! I sent a letter to the CEO of BN, Sean Kell. No reply... after about a month.

I would start with the good part and why I enjoyed browsing the company's offers.
I was looking for earrings but couldn't understand whether the sizing would be good.
I have contacted the customer service and was pleased to receive the real pictures of the requested models (1 day).

Later I have consulted the support on the resale value and decided to go for diamond studs with platinum material.

Now comes the part that I didn't quite like.
The website clearly shows a specific type of lock which I wanted (picture 1 and 2 for reference)
However, I received a different type of lock with my purchase.

The customer service came back to me quickly, which I greatly appreciate, and explained that the aspired type comes only for diamond studs 1 t. Ct. W. (My purchase is 0.70 t. Ct. W)

Now what do I think? I was offered to get another type of lock for 130$ (my purchase was 1800$ for D VVSII Ideal cut) but I am not willing to pay on top as simply it was a gift for myself and already a purchase big enough.

If the company put it clearly, so that the customers could see this information, this would be fair. I don't feel that it's very honest, as I cannot know the company's policy as a first time buyer.

My earrings came with a full set of documents, including 2 GIA certificates and an appraisal report. The diamonds are fantastic, and I believe that the service and the quality is really really good.

I am happy with my studs and I will be glad to order from them in the future!

The delivery took only 3 days and was regularly updated on the website (also huge plus).

The picture in my order and on the website
The type of lock I have received

Always excellent customer service from Blue Nile. I wouldn't normally order online for fine jewelry but for Blue Nile, they have proven to me over the years -- from my first diamond ring to the everyday / special occasion accessories I purchased in between, and eventually to the maintenance and checkup I needed for my diamond ring -- that they are a very reliable and dependable company. My boyfriend purchased a diamond necklace for my birthday. He bought it early and gave it to me on birthday. When I tried it, the necklace was too tight and I wanted to exchange it. I explained to the customer representative that my neck is chubbier and I wanted to exchange it for something else that actually fit me. I was a few days after the return policy and she said if I had called one day earlier I would've been able to but since I was late I would have to pay 20% restocking fee. I think it's ridiculous that people spend so much money on this site and this is their customer service. Til this day I have an expensive diamond necklace that's sitting in my drawer that I can never wear.

Waste of time
June 16, 2022

I attempted to buy a ring from them (engagement setting without the diamond). When I tried to add the ring to my cart, it wouldn't let me. I chatted with one of their reps and he told me that I needed to buy the diamond from them. I wanted to buy a lab grown diamond from a different site since Blue Nile doesn't sell lab grown diamonds. The guy was pushy and tried to convince me to buy a diamond from them. The lab grown I ended up buying was $9,000 versus a natural one on Blue Nile that would have cost me nearly $80,000. Thanks but NO thanks!

The rep said they could sell the ring but I would have to sign paperwork acknowledging that it would just be the ring without the prongs, that the warranty would be void as soon as I added prongs, the ring would come in a "standard size" and would need to be resized, and a several other caveats. The guy said it was pretty "straightforward" yet having to add prongs and get a ring resized is nowhere near "straightforward" when you look into it.

I told him that all those modifications to the ring would be costly, timely, and overall a complete hassle. He copped an attitude and said he didn't care how much it would cost me locally to get the ring modified. Then he got pushy again and started asking for my name, phone number, credit card number, etc. As if I would ever give them my business after catching an attitude with me!

I called several jewelry stores to see how much the cost would be to add the prongs and to get the ring resized. It would have cost me an additional $800 on top of the cost of the rings itself. Plus the turnaround time would have been at least three weeks. Again, thanks but NO thanks!

I ended up getting the diamond and the setting from a different site and had an outstanding experience with them. They were super friendly and have updated me as to the status of the ring regularly.

I would give zero stars if I could.
Blue Nile ruined my ring!

I bought engagement ring from Blue Nile in July 2021 for around £1600.
I have raised concerns at the time about two visible lines on the back of the ring, that look like the ring has been resized. Blue Nile offered to pay for it to be sent back. I refused as that time was busy with my Wedding planning.
Last month May 2022 I contacted Blue Nile to ask if the offer to be repaired still stands. Answer was yes, I also mentioned how the ring head was not right for the actual ring and the prongs were too large and covering areas of the diamond.
A customer rep. Suggested they can change the ring head to the original gallery bar head which would have smaller prongs.
I hesitated as I was not convinced that the craftsmanship was very good, but went with it.
The ring was resized and head setting changed and this was done for free.
When I receive the ring last week I was shocked to see they have completely ruined my ring. The new gallery bar is bulging out on the sides of the diamond, it doesn't sit flush and the metal is not polished and bent where the bars are. It looked like a complete amateur job. The diamond was dirty with inclusions in places I never seen before and assumed it was damaged too in the process of resetting.

Now the ring has been sent back and after the quality assessment team concluded the repair had met the Blue Nile standards, which I completely disagree with. Blue Nile asks me to pay for the ring head to be changed to a better suited for the diamond four claw ring head with talon prongs.

I have sent images and explained to more than one rep. That my diamond is more rounded compared to more elongated or square cushion cut, it has no sharp edges like the princess cut, that it does not suit this setting. Blue Nile experts failed to advise that this was unsuitable setting and it was not as what they emailed me, the way it was advertised on their website.

I demanded full refund as I have zero confidence Blue Nile are capable or competent of fixing the damaged ring. One of their managers was supposed to call and they have not.
Feel completely devastated and in tears over this situation.
Photos after and before the botched job.
