So I received a $30 gift card from this company, but I have to provide a credit card and get billed $59 to use it. No thanks. If their product was legit, they wouldn't have to resort to such tactics.

Gift for Frenemies
October 22, 2016

I agree bait and switch. Charged before you even can try for the next delivery. I am confident this model will lose customers. My friends who said try it were embarrassed and they dropped them. Good takes way to long to prep is average at best. The prep is a turn off and food culdnot be made ahead. HATE IT

A friend highly praised Blue Apron and gave me a free week to give it a try. I was initially impressed by the free box of 3 meals for 2 people. The box arrived on Friday and I was charged for the following week already on SaturdayI hadn't even tried a meal yet! How could I know I wanted to continue? When contacting customer service I received a horrible canned message, not addressing my questions AND included 3 other responses with instructions to the employee of how to respond to a customer! Upon replying back, they did, to my utter surprise, cancel and refund my order.

As for the mealsone meal with meat was pretty good, the other two smelled amazing, but tasted mediocre. Between these two experiences I won't be doing any more orders with Blue Apron.

I admit I was just going to do the free box and quit Blue Apron. But I had alot of fun cooking the meals. I was using ingredients I'd never heard of before - like oolek sambal. And realized not knowing about this ingredient made all my previous ventures into stir fry boring. I love that oolek sambal stuff. And never used lemon grass before. Loved it. So then I decided I'd had enough fun and was going to just do Blue every other weekend to "save" money. Its just husband and me at home now and yet I admit I cook like I have 5 kids "so we will have leftovers" and I won't have to cook. Ok, so I end up throwing out craploads of food. I figure - hey, I can do Blue and not have to go to the grocery store and I'm pretty sure I'm way ahead with Blue for cost - as embarrassing as that is to admit to myself. Plus, I'm tired of all the food I have made for the past 20 years. So yeh, I love Blue Apron. Oh, and its complete crap that Blue is NOT enough food. My husband played college football and I'm no dainty thing and its completely enough food. Yes, I give Blue a thumbs up. Note: when the box arrives, I get out 3 pyrex glass dishes and sort the ingredients and set them in the fridge. I have heard other services put meals together, and that would be nice, but its simple to use the recipe cards (they are 8 1/2 x 11) and take the big ingredients and the baggies of "knick knacks" and sort when box arrives. I didn't do that initially and it was dumb. :) Have fun.

The meals were weird and not the quality I expected. I could only eat a few because they were pretty bad. The price was ridiculously high and the amount of food was not enough to feed a normal size person.

Overpriced, average food.
September 29, 2016

Had a referral from a friend who uses blue apron. Was charged full price and then received a credit. Paused my next meals while I tasted what I had received. Not worth the money. Was out of town and away from e-mail when I found a pending charge on my credit card. Cancelled the service and will dispute the charge. All communication so far has been negative. No customer service...

Two different times, I skipped meals on their calendar app going ahead more than a month and suddenly saw a charge to them on my bank statement. It was too late. The meals shipped. We have allergies, so both times, more than half of the meals were non-edible for us. Also unplanned. Nice. BTW, I was wary of the calendar after the first incident, so marked my own calendar so I wouldn't get caught again. The good news is cancelling is easy. Hope it doesn't revert, too. Oh and the email reminders about shipments get caught in spam, so you can't count on those.

Bait and switch
September 25, 2016

Horrible customer service. They send you a gift card and when you can't use it because there is no place for you to input the code, they tell you they can't honor it because you are already a customer. This is one week after I became a customer and tried to use the gift card THEY sent me! I wrote them asking to honor the card and apply it to my bill. I told them I felt this was a bait and switch tactic and her response was inappropriate. I would have to cancel my account if they could not honor the gift card that they mailed me. Caroline O in customer service said " oh well if you feel you need to cancel the subscription here's how to do it ". Then she sent me three links that did not direct me to canceling my order. I had to work hard to find out where to cancel it because she would not do it for me. It's really too bad because I would've continued my service until I got such an attitude from her.

I have received 2 boxes now from Blue Apron. The first had the bag of rice broken and rice spilled all over. No big deal except I had to go buy rice to make the recipe which kind of defeats the whole purpose.

Today received the second box. This one had sesame oil spilled all over. This WAS a big deal as it was such a oily mess on everything and very pungent aroma too.

I called Blue Apron to cancel my service and asked for a nominal credit due to the problem. Unwilling to give one unless I continued the service. Poor customer service and quality control.

Surprised at all the bad reviews... and why are you folks blaming them for shipping? They are not the shipping company! There food is always good, and I am amazed at what I get from them every week. I have never been missing an ingredient yet and I get it every week.,... I can count on one hand the number of ingredients that have been a bit wilted or iffy in OVER A YEAR... for gosh's sake, I live in PHOENIX... it is 120 here... they do an amazing job of getting it here fresh and in good shape. If you are unable to get your box in quickly and you live in a super hot climate, I would recommend not doing summer deliveries... but because I can get my box in during the day or shortly after delivery and have a place they can leave it in the shade, I have been successful even through the summers here. I still LOVE it, and putting it on hold is not a problem if you need to, as well as canceling it... my friends have tried it and canceled it NO problem... you just have to be smart enough to READ the rules. It takes them almost a week to prepare and order or you, so you have to cancel by the date they tell you in order to stop the order. Common sense! Now they are offering less complex meals, so those of you who don't want to invest an hour for an amazing meal, stay with your drive thrus and miocrowave meals...

I have been using Blue apron for a few months now. The food is good, but the delivery system is a failed system. More than a dozen deliveries were placed out in the hot sun on the hot concrete just to spoil. Despite numerous, and I mean numerous easy to follow instructions laid out by myself to Blue Apron and the delivery service they continued to make the same poor delivery choice time after time resulting in food that was wasted. Many emails and promises were made by Blue Apron, not one of which was kept. I was forced to discard of at least 12 meals all because of their complete incompetency and unwillingness to do what needed to be done to solve the problem. I assume the owners of Blue Apron wouldn't appreciate the endless amount of money thrown down the drain because of their failed delivery systems and poor customer service. If they knew what was going on and that they were loosing money and customers I bet they would not be happy! Blue Apron did however comp my meals that were trashed, (but that didn't solve the problem). In the end I had to quit using them because they couldn't get it right, and I in good faith could not recommend them to a friend. Good luck if you use Blue Apron! I hope and pray you don't have to go through the same headaches I did.

A friend gave me an offer to try some free meals - it sounded like a good idea and I was signing up with the intent to continue the service, but when I went to sign up, the website wouldn't take my address or city. The only response I got was to change my browser to Google Chrome. They had absolutely no way to add the information manually. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told it wouldn't make a difference, the supervisor wouldn't have any other idea how to help me. Business must be good - Eric, the service rep, wasn't too concerned about losing my business.

Misleading advertising
August 16, 2016

Decent food but "we want you back, 3 free meals" turns out to be three free servings. Customer service refused to do anything. Then we sent a gift card to friends but they couldn't redeem it. Other friends of ours felt the "we want you back" emails were misleading as well.

When I called they said they would reimburse me for 2 meals, but what she was attempting to say was that they would credit it the next time I ordered. This is my first box... now my last.

Received the blue apron boxes for three or four months. Worked out great for me and my hubs. Saved me from having to grocery shop and plan meals for part of the week and he even started cooking (normally unheard of). Plus we were getting a wider variety of food than what we would eat normally. The thing that made me cancel my subscription is that the boxes started arriving less and less cold. I live in the desert, so its pretty hot in the summer right now, so I asked if they could fix this issue or if I should suspend my orders till cooler months arrive. The did credit an order where we had to through out the meats because it smelled horrible when we opened it. We threw out products like sour cream and creme fraice because they were always spoiled and separated when we opened them. But the tipping point was when we got an order with pizza dough in it. The dough had expanded because it was so hot in the box and had exploded out of the packaging. The response i received was "we make sure we package our food so that it arrives cool and at the proper temperature for you". Obviously not. Since this wasn't my first issue with the ingredients not being cold enough for safe consumption, I was very disappointed that that was their response. I canceled our subscription and will hold off on trying any other box services like this until winter.

THis company SUCKS!
August 7, 2016

I had Blue Apron, it was only OK. I cancelled it due to having key ingredients left out of the box EVERY TIME. The just sent me an email saying they "missed" me, and offered 2 free meals. This was a total scam. I went to their sight, was told to order meals for the next delivery scheduled. NO CODE or free meal offer mentioned. The home page said I was deactivated, yet I got and immediate response saying I had purchased TEN COOKING bowls! What a rip off! NO WAY to contact them, no live chat or phone number. STAY AWAY!

The recipes are very flavorful, however, most weeks its some sort of burger, Cod or Shrimp dish and Chicken or pork. We have only received Salmon once, never received any steak, or higher end meats. They need to step up their variety and Nicer cuts of meats and veggies. In addition, the recipes are all very similar. They also need more variety in this area as well.

At first I enjoyed this service and was satisfied with most of the recipes (they are a bit heavy on cole-slaw variations as sides so if you don't enjoy a mayo/vinegar/veggie mix this would be a disappointment).
Then I started receiving orders where the produce was going bad after 1-2 days. Since these deliveries are only once a week with 3 meals included it isn't practical for the meals to go bad before you can cook them.
My most recent order had the package of Cod fish torn when it arrived and all the liquid from the fish leaked on the rest of the ingredients making them unusable. There also weren't ingredients included for all the recipes on the card, it is as if they packed ingredients for totally different recipes than I received.
I have submitted multiple requests to customer service for a refund or credit and haven't received a response.
I am cancelling my subscription due to this. I basically had to throw $60.00 in the garbage can and Blue Apron refuses to communicate with me. It also irks me that paying $60.00 a week for 3 meals doesn't guarantee that ingredients will be usable. I end up having to buy replacement ingredients while grocery shopping due to expired/rotting produce I receive in the deliveries.

The food was really great tasting. There wasn't enough for two people unless your on a diet. Customer service is great. It was easy to cancel membership. Just had one problem, the chicken had a lot of fat and stringy muscle. They were quick to rectify my complaint and took money off on my next order.

Had a free week from a friend. Didn't know that automatically set me up as a customer. Got charged for a shipment I didn't want (or know I was getting); contained food I specifically didn't want. When I discovered it, I called. Waited to speak to representative who told me too late to stop the shipment and they didn't take returns. If I didn't want it, I should give it to a neighbor. After much arguing, agreed to credit my account and cancel my membership. For a "sustainable" organization, too much packaging! Prep while not difficult, created lots of dishes.
