Consumer cellular told me to drive 3 hours, to have pictures transferred to my new phone, to Target store. Target said they don't do that. WTF?
You have to pay for data separately, as soon as my phone is paid off, I'm switching back to T-Mobile
Despite what I read here, I have had and continue to have decent customer service from Consumer Cellular. My troubles started when they changed their network from T-Mobile to AT&T. I should have known because I've never gotten good service from AT&T landline or WiFi. My cell phone stopped logging incoming calls consistently. Then the problem spread to outgoing calls. Restarting the phone cures these problems temporarily but I shouldn't have to do this. The AT&T wireless voicemail system is under-featured and harder to use. Likewise international texting. There is more spam and no warning that an incoming call is probably spam as T-Mobile did. AT&T is notorious for carrying spam and profiting shamelessly from it. Now my phone doesn't ring sometimes on an incoming call. In short, service has become unreliable and I blame CC's move to AT&T, which has always been unreliable. Bad move guys!
Consumer Cellular has really went downhill. Customer service and management are very rude and argumentative. Do yourself a favor, and do business elsewhere. You'll be glad you did.
When you cancel your service with them due to going to a different more reliable service they take over 10 days to cancel so they can charge you more. They also claim that if you pay you our bill it's for the previous month so again they charge you. They claim to be unlimited talk and text but some how you can go over so they automatically change your plan again charging more money. When you call they basically tell you that you are a liar and will not fix the issues. Lastly they do auto pay if you cancel your plan without you giving them permission they claim first that if u don't use auto pay that your bill is $5 more each month which is funny because when you have paid previous months without auto pay there is no extra charge. I will be filling a complaint with the attorney general
I went online to see if there was coverage where I live. Typed in my physical address and it said there was coverage. Upon signing up, and getting the sim card. I found out there is 0 coverage where I live. I had to drive 20 miles into town to use it. I called to cancel it. And for some reason it was not canceled the first time. It was not canceled until the end of July. Now I know why. So they can charge me for the month. It is not right. Horrible horrible company to deal with.never again. They got me for charges that I could not use,
The main complaint I see is people trying to use lock cell phones if you have an unlocked phone like you get from the dollar store or someplace like that grab an AT&t phone go to the settings there's an app to unlock the phone click it then will be unlocked but the consumer cell phone SIM in and then call them up they will download a few things your phone and you're good to go I believe most people don't know what's going on and on top of that it's mostly AT&t towers
This account was closed July 23 and I was told there would be no further charges by a male supervisor. They would zero out the last bill bc they researched it hadn't been used in 5 months by elderly with dementia. Then I saw July 25 another $21.75 was auto deducted off of my bank account when I was told that there would be no further charges on July 23. I asked for it to be reimbursed and was refused.
I have spent all day migrating. There have been issues with esim, and sim cards. Most agonizing experiece ever. Regret making the change.
My husband and I signed up for the Unlimited Talk, Text, and Data plan for $65/mo.
After three days, I got a notification that my husband's data was being shut off for "excessive usage". I called and they turned it back on.
A few days later, around 11pm, I got a notification that his data had been shut off again for "excessive usage". The website said they kpened at 6am, but when I called, they were not open til 8am.
I was told that they cap the data at 50Gs and it slows down after that. I reminded them that I paid for unlimited and they agreed that it was unlimited but after 50 Gs it slowed down. I said I understood that but please stop shutting my husband's data off when we paid for unlimited. They said it was an automatic thing the system did and they had no control over it, but just call and it would be turned back on.
10 days before the new billing cycle, they shut his data off again and this time said the system would not allow them to turn his data back on because we had exceeded the 50G limit. I reminded them that the plan said unlimited. They agreed it was unlimited but the system would not let them turn his data back on. I could still watch movies and listen to music on my phone but he couldn't.
Blatant misrepresentation and downright fraud.
I was a customer for over two years. They kept charging me for data usage when I was at home on my Wi-Fi network. They kept bumping up my plan without my permission from my initial $15 to $40 per month. I finally had enough and cancelled the service. I was all paid up- or, so I thought. I cancelled on the 1st & they shut off my service immediately. A week later, they took another full payment from my bank account. And they still want another $20 to boot.what sheer huberis! And they are trying to say that the money they stole from me this month was for last months service. You can't go to McDonald's and get a big Mac today and pay for it tomorrow. That's just stupid! Please be aware that they are criminals and they will lie to you. Steer clear and tell everyone else to stay away from them. Shame on you consumer cellular and all your half witted customer service agents. I hope you are handed a class action lawsuit that puts you out of business!
Someone told me about Consumer Cellular about 2 years ago. I was so tired of spending the ridiculous amount of money on my other service. So I tried Consumer Cellular. I'll never go back to anything else. I've nothing bad to say about this company. I have the exact same coverage as my other company gave me but for SO MUCH less. I'm saving over $100/mo without any interruptions. No dropped calls, Nothing. Highly recommend CC to anyone. Great for business too. I am a realtor so important to have a phone that always working.

I always call CC before I go to Mexico and let them know. Two weeks before I went to Italy I did the same. This time the rep asked me "Do you want your data turned on?"
I've never been asked that before so I though that had to do with overseas (over the water) vs. just going across the border to Mexico. When I got back my bill was $409 Instead of the normal $25. Supervisors refused to work with me. I think they should have at least split it with me. I was never explained about roaming charges or keeping it in 'airplane mode'. This never happened to me in Mexico! So I still don't understand it. They refuse to work with me and explain it. They just keep saying "The charges are valid. The charges are valid." Grrrrrrr.
Before signing up with CC and buying a phone from them I was assured by more than one of their customer service agents that I did not need wifi, that my new phone purchased from them could rely solely on cellular data. So not true. CC uses the Att and T mobile towers, but because preference is given by Att and T mobile to their actual customers, data is extremely slow for CC customers unless you have wifi to help. CC would never admit this, saying the problem must be with my house blocking the tower signal. There is nothing at all about my house that would block the signal, plus I was just few blocks away from the tower. It was a nightmare dealing with this company and they made No, no, effort to resolve the problem...or to be forthcoming about the slow to nonexistent data service.
Husband died...they are still trying to charge me after I cancelled the service the day after he died.

My 100 yr old mother needs an emergency phone. Checked my iPhone to be sure of compatibility. Yes it's compatible. Paid for sim to be sent. Didn't work! Customer service insisted it was a faulty Sim, and had to pay for another Sim! That one didn't work either! The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing with this company. Nobody knows what they're talking about. I finally was told that has nothing to do with the sim and something to do with towers? There is no consideration for my 100 year old mother. They're insisting that I pay for another Sim for another phone that they say is compatible. I absolutely refuse! Stay away from this company!
They bill you fully even after you cancel your account. Do not set up autopay with them. They drain your account over and over again!
Don't ever go with consumer cellular they make it impossible to take your phone if you buy an iPhone from them or if you want to port your number. I've been trying for 2 months in about a week.
Today I finally got my number transferred after visiting 5 stores between Target for CC, Apple Store, Xfinity store, making 15 calls to Consumer Cellular, 5 calls to Xfinity, 2 calls to apple. And being forced to pay an extra 2 months of service! They lied to me and strung me out for so long! But in the end, I won! Got to keep my phone and my number! Lost money and time tho. Do not do not do not go to Consumer Cellular!
I considered moving to Consumer Cellar to get a lower rate. Went through all the setup, and they charged my card but I had to wait a week to get the sim card, but charges start right away even though you can't use the service. I put the SIM card in, but it didn't work. I called in they could not help me, I was put on hold several times. They transferred me and the person could not help and ended up hanging up on me.
Don't waste your time or money. Service is bad, support is bad. I called Verzion to be she Consumer Celluar did not try to transfer my phone. Verizon support of friendly, extremely helpful and perfect to talk to
