The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Why does this site not post negative reviews I have tried twice to post my review. To their standards on a company I hired from them They ripped me off. So I wanted people to know about this company. HomeAdvisor doesn't want to have a bad rep. Now they get a negative review
This service has turbo charged my business. They send me leads constantly. Of course you don't close every lead you get and of course not every lead is perfect for you. (They will refund the lead charge if it's totally off.) I'm closing probably around 20% of the leads they send me, which if you know anything about leads is a great rate. They put me in direct contact with people who are trying to get the exact service I offer. They have optimized their search presence which puts them high in the results of people searching for my services. Then through their page, the customer is questioned and directed to my company. The customer gets my contact info and I get theirs. Some times they even call me first. Otherwise, I'll call them within a few minutes of getting the lead. That quick connection to the customer is a huge help in creating a relationship and getting their confidence that you'll be attentive. For what they charge for a lead ($10 - $40) it's worth every penny. I've never been so busy. If you don't believe me, call me and ask.
I was looking for some contractors for my home remodel and I used the HomeAdvisor website, 3 times. First 2 referrals were great but the 3rd contact had the worst cust serv (actually "no service") imaginable. I wrote a negative review... which did not get posted. Wrote a 2nd review, which again, did not get posted. Makes me doubt the validity of this type of website. I feel it's still best to use referrals from friends/relatives. I gave it 3 stars because my overall experience has been, just okay; nothing I can rely on.
The mission of this Colorado firm is to stab you, not to help your small business. I got billed for instance $188.20 in one month, and $56 of that was for giving me ONE lead that I never even followed up on because I install home theaters, and never got a single person who wanted that, mostly repair my TV power supply when the Chinese made electronics fail or mount my TV to the wall because Best Buy charges more than I want. They say it's $17 per month but don't tell you about the $80 every three months and the scam with random $20 fees for leads that you have no notice you are going to be paying for.
Be aware this site I had for a full year and it cost me over a thousand dollars with only one small sale. DONT SIGN UP unless you have money to just burn or are in a BIG city AND in the DOWNTOWN area.
I went on HomeAdvisor website twice for two different searches. I found none of the referrals adequate, but to add salt to the wound, I am now pestered everyday, even Sundays at 7:30 am with solicitation calls. I plead with them to stop but they do not. I have used up all 12 of my "do not call" options to block some calls. Still it is not enough. Do NOT trust this website to respect your privacy.
Why waste time with a company that charges exuberant prices for low quality leads? I'm done with HA and moving on to MyProHome, which is a smaller company, but they are down to earth and actually care about both parties. For me leads have so far been in the $10-25 range.
Posted a negative review on Home Advisors.com three weeks ago fee: roofing and gutter company called Cheryl A. Hunt of Roofing and Gutters of Oregon, Newberg, Oregon. They ripped me off for $300.00 for incomplete job. They have not listed my negative review. I also checked and have seen over 400 complaints regarding this company.
I used these guys to try to find a contractor to renovate a family room. They simply post MY name and address and phone number for anyone who is paying to be a "contractor" looking for leads!
I received many calls from people many miles away from my home, ALL provided quotes that were seriously high. ~ very much like a con job service. I received quotes reaching $45k! I eventually located a local contractor who is doing the work for $7500.
NOW while i'm on the do not call list, i still receive 15 unsolicited calls a day for carpet cleaning, solar installation, etc.
You get the picture!
These people COULD easily be con men using the web to review a home prior to ripping you off.
STAY AWAY FROM HOMEADVISOR.COM!
UPDATE: here it's about a year later and i STILL get a LOT of "home improvement" calls. I believe that in spit of asking homeadvisor to remove my contact information, it STILL sits out there for anyone (who pays homeadvisor) to pick up and call.
Well now 2 years later and i STILL get unsolicited contractors calling me up. This is likely just a phone number collection site who then sells your name and number for cash. I'm reading here how they even are ripping off contractors with "leads" that are worthless. What a crooked company HomeAdvisor.com is!
I first used homeadvisor to find a great maid service and then later to remodel our kitchen cabinets. I went through 10 different contractors before settling on one that would work within our budget and get the right design. They are a great for immediately finding a handful of contractors who are willing to do the job immediately rather than in a month or two.
I signed up for Home Advisor formerly Service magic and found out why they had to change their name. The 5 leads they sent me over 3 days were a complete joke they charged me $100 on top of the money I lost in time, gas, employee pay, and aggravation. I would never give them another dime if they gave me 1000 of their B. S. leads. I wish I could give them 0 stars...
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
