Honey Reviews Summary

The company's reputation is significantly marred by numerous customer complaints regarding deceptive practices, particularly related to affiliate link manipulation and inadequate customer support. While some users appreciate the potential savings and coupon-finding capabilities of the service, many express frustration over unresponsive customer service, difficulties redeeming rewards, and perceived scams affecting both consumers and content creators. Positive feedback highlights the effectiveness of the browser extension in finding discounts; however, the overarching sentiment reflects a growing distrust among customers due to unresolved issues and lack of transparency in operations.

I've had it with these people. After faithfully using and earning for years, I tried to redeem my redeemable points and it happened to be inexplicably unavailable at that time with no customer care regarding rainchecks or emails. Since I was in no hurry I checked back some time later and they had quietly raised the threshold for redeemable points and asked me to earn more. After doing so I checked after three months to see my pending points required my babysitting and emailing since their system was not taking any initiative to spare me the trouble. I received an email a short time later that my points are suddenly set to 'expire' after years of using, in a mere two weeks, unless I spend a bunch more money and fuss with this ridiculous system even though I waited over 90 days last time for redemption, and after checking again they raised the threshold AGAIN. How do you spell scam? I'm not an idiot. Don't waste my time.
Edit: Since writing this less than 3 weeks ago, I watched the minimum pts redemption threshold go up at least 3 more times by no small amount; it was below 700 and now it's 800. They have no problem hiking it so you can never cash in - but if you don't earn at a breakneck rate they will wipe your earnings and wash their hands of it. Don't waste your time and energy here.

My wife left
January 15, 2025

Linganguna, I never imagined we'd find ourselves here. I know things weren't always perfect, but I truly believed we could weather any storm together. You were my partner, my confidant, and my greatest source of joy. Even now, I hold on to the memories of laughter and love we shared. I wish I could understand what led us to this point, but more than anything, I hope you find the peace and happiness you're searching for. You'll always hold a place in my heart. WHY LINGANGUNA HOW COULD YOU BE SO HEARTLESS (ye reference)

Fisshy stuff goingh on
January 4, 2025

Hi all
I have just been informed that honey has been doing the fishy stuff and has been ripping in affiliate codes from creators and stopping them make money. Also companies have been paying honey to to give us coupon codes to the end user so the company makes more money and therefore honey will make more money as well because they they are getting paid by the companies to do that just letting you know I am uninstalling honey I've been lied to thank you very much.

This is a blatant scam
December 23, 2024

The Honey browser extension, owned by PayPal, engages in several deceptive practices:

## Misleading Discount Practices
Honey deliberately shows smaller discounts (like 5%) while hiding better available deals (like 30%), prioritizing codes that benefit its business partners rather than providing users with the best savings[1][2].

## Commission Theft
The extension manipulates affiliate links by replacing existing cookies with its own, effectively stealing commissions from content creators and influencers who originally referred the sales[4][7]. This practice particularly affects small creators who rely on affiliate income for their revenue.

## Selective Code Display
Rather than showing all available discount codes, Honey selectively displays codes based on business partnerships, contradicting its promise to automatically find the best deals[9]. The extension's pop-ups at checkout often serve no purpose other than to claim affiliate credit[4].

This behavior has sparked significant backlash from both consumers and influencers, many of whom previously promoted the extension without knowing its true practices[2][9].

The store policy of issuing a credit instead of refund should be communicated at all times even if it says on the receipt. I returned an item an was told it's a credit only. It's $160 sitting in a Honey bank account. This is highway robbery. I could have used that money to feed my family. Terrible

Worthless
October 2, 2023

Worthless
They removed all of the redeem options in the UK, without so much as a message.

The many points I earned (and which earned them money) are now worthless.

This is worse than bad, its fraudulent.

I have nearly £100 in Honey Gold and I cannot redeem it.
Emails are ignored and chat is not responded to.
Although the discounts are nice to have.
Extremely disappointed about their customer service especially when its meant to be a Paypal company!

I purchased a major appliance with joinhoney.com with Home Depot. I never received credit for it. I contacted Joinhoney and they never got me the points. My transaction on Joinhoney said "Ineligible." I had the same thing with Apple purchased with honey. On the contrary, when I do the exact same purchases on American Airlines Shopping, I get points from both Apple and Home Depot for the exact same types of purchases. Honey is either incompetent or a total scam and they are keeping the money.
Avoid them like the plague. FYI, it looks like they were purchased by Paypal. I hope you like offshore customer service. ;)

Worked great for about a year. I saved up a substantial amount of Honey and now it does not work when I attempt to redeem it. Honey chat wont talk to me and Honey email no response. Seems like paypal just wants to keep the money for them selves.

I was given an offer of $100 Bonus Honey Gold on a purchase. The reward did not post to my honey account after I made the purchase. I contacted their customer service multiple. I got no reply. After 6 months, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (against PayPal who owns Honey).

They gave me a canned response that stated:

"We determined your Honey account is not eligible for this reward as we found your account's behavior to be in violation of the Honey terms".

And "PayPal reserves the right to suspend or terminate, in its sole and absolute discretion, your participation in the PayPal Rewards Program".

And "termination of your participation in the Rewards Program (or your PayPal account) will result in the immediate forfeiture of all Points and unused Rewards".

I have no idea what behavior they were referring too. I did nothing out of the ordinary. I was never given a warning about anything. Or told that anything I did even irritated Honey in the slightest. I suspect I will never know.

But they did terminate my account and confiscated the entire balance of my account (which wasn't significant).

I will avoid them like the plague.

Scam
June 15, 2022

It is supposed to reward purchases with honey gold, where applicable, that you can then redeem for gift vouchers. I have made 12 purchases that have not been rewarded any honeygold and customer services are useless. Nearly 20 emails and I am getting nowhere. Worst service I've ever had.
