I don't even know where to begin this, never had such issue before, this must be a new scam they are pulling, i cancelled their service 3 months ago, all of sudden, I saw another charge went through, I contacted them, and they claimed the subscription was under another email address which I had no idea about, they asked for verification, which including providing them with my credit card info, and I provided, a week passed nothing, I contacted them several times, it seems just doesn't matter to them.
Worse thing about this is you can't even explain this to your bank, because it is subscription, I did agree to subscribe them before, but i cancelled, so bank does not treat this as fraud, and they kept asking me to work it out with scribd, but how i can work out with a ghost.

Like many other customers who have shown their outrage of the unscrupulous practices of Scribd, I have been wrongfully charged monthly for 4 times throughout this year despite canceling my FREE TRIAL membership in April. When I emailed them, they only agreed to refund the latest one, and refuse to refund the previous three charges as they claim "their refund policy is they do not issue refunds beyond 30 days." When the error is on the company's side to settle and for the customers to claim because we are the victims in the transaction, they do not take responsibility to repay us back the money. I, as an unknowing consumer, has to suffer because of an error on the company's side that took away a large proportion of my bank account money that I dutifully save up. This is pure exploitation of unsuspecting consumers, disguised under the banner of "free trial" and it is honestly my first experience.

In response to their claims of a " monthly subscription". I am well aware of the distinctions between paid monthly subscriptions; annual subscriptions; free trial, and CANCELLATIONs of subscriptions presented on the website to me( please see attached photo). I am not the one erroneously claiming that I did not cancel a paid membership- I have even received a proof that I cancelled my subscription. So why is it that the company still refuses to admit it has a duty to repay me for wrongly charging me when I CANCELLED my paid subscription, and using its "30 day policy" to cover up its error in transactions? It's hard to not perceive this as an exploitation of customers when they have clearly opted out of paid subscriptions. What's more frustrating is they have the audacity to charge NOT one, but 5 wrong payments throughout the entire year.

Fraudulent Free Trials

Under the pretext of a 'free trial', I entered my payment details for the account, only to see that there was a charge for it. Thereafter, I cancelled my account immediately, but I was still charged for the service for a month. I sought customer service care for this issue, but they quoted that this was based on 'terms and conditions' and I should have differentiated between a free account and charged account before entering my payment details.

I consider them a fraudulent business that does not care about bringing the best service for their customers - they are only concerned about getting more users charged for their 'free accounts'. Avoid at all costs as I believe there are better book reading services out there.

This "free trial" is a SCAM to fleece you of your credit card details. Once they have those, oh, whoops, look at that, two seconds later your "free trial" has expired and you need to pay now to access the site! -- This is not a glitch; it's a feature. This is how the scam begins.

I have read most of the reviews here on the first page and already a pattern is emerging. This is a fraudulent company that hides behind things like technical difficulties and "duplicate accounts" (? Who is buying this garbage?) to explain why they are charging customers, and continue to charge customers, despite lying through their teeth and providing zero service.

When you try to contact them via the website, you submit your "question" but they don't even take your contact details, so there is no way for them to respond to you. Email them and they hide behind Covid as a reason they can't respond to your queries.

In the end I cancelled my card. Lesson learned, but there's no way I'm giving these scammers a cent so just do it -- cancel your card. Their "cancel any time!" is a big fat lie; know that upfront. They don't make it easy to cancel and purposefully obfuscate the process to make it difficult for you. Just a tip: Deleting your account will NOT stop them from charging you.

Scribd, I'm writing this review mostly because I wanted to inform you (as I've already done via email) that I will be compiling evidence, then submitting, detailed reports to all of the businesses who work with you. I have a lot of time on my hands! Yours is a fraudulent company, regularly scamming and deceiving customers. There is no way you should be allowed anywhere near PayPal, the Apple app store or Google Play. ALL services have severed ties with/refused to support apps and companies for much less.

Highly Dissapointed.

After purchasing the premium version, I received a confirmatory mail for the same. When i try logging in within hours with the same email id shows that there is no account with that mail id. Also, customer support is of no use. Support ticket #*******.

I'm very disappointed with Scribd. I liked the product, but the billing service is terrible. Even I wasn't login much for the past year, but decided stay on the autopay. Until last week, I found out that I was double charged for 8 months. They looked into it and said that I have two accounts. Apparently, one time, I entered a different e-mail address. There you go, they signed me up for it! Okay, I'm not going to dig further as why I was signed up again without knowing. I just wanted the refund for the double charged portion. They did refund me, but only for 6 months. When I requested for the remainder 2 months refund, there was no response. Basically they forced me to cancel my membership. Now, I'm concerned that they may continue charge me even after the cancellation. It's really too bad because I was going to continue keep them even though I've not use the service much lately. I will consider getting the subscription in the future if they can resolve this matter now.

FRAUD!

This company is operating FRAUDULENTLY. They offer the ubiquitous "free monthly membership" and then... you enter Fraudland where there is NO way out. They have ZERO customer service, no way to contact by phone OR email. They offer a question box which you get to after navigating their murky waters for 15 minutes which of course is of NO HELP whatsoever. I tried TWICE in a year to cancel my subscription and just realized they are still charging me 10$ a month. Turns out there are DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS like mine on the web. I have contacted my bank and am in the process of recouping my funds; however I am dubious. I REALLY DESPISE these corrupt business practices that prey on people who are simply interested in checking out a new service. STEER CLEAR for sure. I am also looking into a class action suit against the company as I have spent HOURS of my precious time and energy under duress trying to prevent this company from STEALING from me. This is criminal. I hope I've been clear. And i truly hope whoever is reading this will heed this warning. Take care good homo sapiens and STAND UP and fight what is UNLAWFUL in our sacred land!

So angry. No way to contact this company. Had two accounts. Due to someone stealing bank card i had a hoks on it. Plan was paid for by due date. Now lubrary gone on both accounts. Trying to reach for days now. I did love the company, but they hwve let me down. Dont use themm you will lose all saved books, and the acct dissapears. Yet i was still bill 9.99 twice this month for service.

I want to use this service. I have an account but it keeps saying my payment can't be processed. I've called my bank-- no issues there. Tried to other credit cards, still can't be processed. Contacted Scribd. It has been al lost 2 weeks, have yet to hear back from Scribd support.

Poor customer service

My payment card has expired, but for a month now, I haven't been able to update my payment details. I've had about 7 support tickets, some of them claiming the issue has been "resolved". It hasn't.

I cancelled my membership before my free trial even ended because I was not using it too often. I double-checked and then didn't think about it anymore. I've just found out that they've been charging my cards since then. Not a single email sent to inform me that I was even going to be charged. I have no idea if I will even even get my money back anymore but for the love of god do not get it subscribe unless you are absolutely sure that you will be using it a lot.

Unauthorized charges

I haven't used scribd in a long time since 2019. I cancelled my subscription in 2019 and this month September 2020 l realized l have been getting charged for services l no longer use. Since May 2020 till this month Seotember they have been charging me. I have asked for my refund they said they can't find my info. They asked for more info abd l sent them screen shots and all they asked for, then after that they went silent. I have realized l am not the only one who has gone through this and I want you guys who have once used their services and cancelled to check your bank statements you might be shocked that they are taking money out of your bank account too. I need my refund and l will keep complaining because this is not right you can't take advantage of people like that.

Unethical

So apparently customer service only helps you until you actually need a refund. Just noticed that I had 6 months of charges on my credit card and had never signed up. They couldn't find any account for me under any of my emails nor my credit card number. Finally found an account for me under someone else's email and asked if I recognized the email. I said it wasn't my email and that I wanted a refund of the 6 months and also my credit card taken off that account to prevent any further charges. I got an email back from customer service saying "Ok so you say it's not your email but do you recognize it?". No! If I recognized it I would have said something. I reiterated that it wasn't mine, I didn't recognize it and wanted my refund. Up until then they had been answering my other emails after about 12 hours. Once it got to the last one, nothing. I emailed them back two different times and nothing. I can't believe they are still in business with this many complaints.

Like just about everyone else here, I signed up for a free trial and promptly forgot about the website. I never actually provided my card number, though I did sign up using my google account and they got it through there. I never, in fact, even authenticated my email until I realized I had been getting charged 9 dollars a month for over a goddamn year with no notification. I've been able to refund the current charge but this is absolutely ridiculous. When this many people are leaving you bad reviews about getting charged for no reason, you would think you'd fix your system- it's absurd you don't need to authenticate your email for Scribd to overdraft your account, but you DO in order to cancel your subscription and get a refund! All this for a sub-par website- it's no wonder you need to do this shady $#*! in order to get business.

I am a student and used my dad's card to sign up in Sept'19 to try out the website. However, I couldn't find the materials that I was looking for and applied for cancellation within 15 days at the max. However, I have been charged for almost a year now. When the complaint was raised, the team made a big fuss about being generous to refund a month's charge and then extended to 3 months. I don't understand how such unethical firms are existing and exploiting student's money. Such firms should brought to the law and be punished severely.

Wish I could give a negative rating but unfortunately no such options. Please let me know if there are any options to stop such people from exploiting other students.

Additionally, our Refund Policy here: states, "You must contact us within 30 days of a charge for a refund". Providing refunds for more than one month is a one-time courtesy, and I am afraid we are not able to go any higher than that.

Tried the free trial for 3 days and didnt like it so cancelled I my sub, and after some annoying emails insisting that I still have 3 more weeks of use it stopped. But low and behold, 1 month later 9.89 dollars were taken from my paypal account to ¨pay¨ for one more month. And now I m trying to get a refund from the site and paypal, and I will find as many sites like this to share their scammy and cheap pratice, 1/5 because I cant go lower than that, 0/5 would still be compliment.
