The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, particularly concerning its subscription model and customer service. Many users report unauthorized charges, difficulties in canceling subscriptions, and a lack of responsive support, leading to perceptions of deceptive practices. While some customers acknowledge the potential value of the service for avid readers, these positives are overshadowed by frustrations with the platform's functionality and the quality of customer interactions. Overall, the feedback indicates a pressing need for improved communication and more transparent billing practices to restore customer trust.

This service was great, until now. I am canceling tomorrow. They are including books I already read in to the three books per month, so if I want to review and read the books again they come out of the 3 books per week. I am going back to kindle, at least I owe the books I buy instead of throwing my money away.
I just found out about there change in service. I only read a certain type of books and there unlimited books do not interest me. I live in Mexico that is why I have this. Where else can I go
So done with Scribd. In the last couple of years, I was impressed with Scribd, I was about to purchase memberships for all of my many family members as a Christmas gift. However, they recently placed major limits on audio-book access. Then, they placed limits on digital book access. Now you can get better material through Google and Youtube. What a let down this is. They should replace whoever is making executive decisions at Scribd with a magic-eight ball. They are likely to have better results. Like many other members, I'm leaving. It is a waste of time and money. Scribd has become a joke.
Go to setting on phone/iPad click on iTunes, then press your iTunes email and under manage subscription turn off Scribd. Just did that. I hope it works. I was great till lasted. One audiobook a month for $8.99 is too much. I can buy one for less at Amazon and keep it forever. Going back to my public library. They give me 10 audiobooks for free every month.
I was told that books I was already reading would still be available after the change - they were not. So, ok - the bait business model worked but now I want out if this cannot be resolved - I send written confirmation that no more deductions are to be made from my Credit Card - and this was ignored. Deductions continue to come out.
Do not join Scribd - you will not be able to cancel or stop the Credit Card payments without cancelling your Credit Card.
I am disappointed in their new limited model as I read thousands of books when it was unlimited. Yet still because of their continued free documents section which has hundreds of books and articles for any interest scribd rmains for me my favorite site.
I am not impressed with the change to their business model/subscription service. This service is no longer an attractive choice nor is it a bargain for my $9.00 per month. I'll go back to Overdrive and Amazon Prime.
Poor service when attempting cancel. Ongoing for over a month now. Payments leaving my account yet my request and correspondence with 'customer services' is apparently 'on hold'. No idea why! Annoyed is an understatement. Joke of a company. This needs sorting!
Sorry, Scribd, cancelled as soon as I learned about the limiting of regular e-books to 3. My understanding of contract law was that when two parties agree and money (consideration) is exchanged, one party can't go back on it. Apparently your company gets to change the rules with impunity! Terrible business ethics!
I was a customer almost from the beginning and enjoyed finding titles my Overdrive Library didn't carry. Guess I'll move on to Amazon (their business model works!).
My daughter received a 6 month subscription to Scribd. After looking at the collection of books, my husband and I were planning to get our own subscriptions. Then Scribd announced that they were making changes which would limit a subscriber to 3 books per month and 1 audiobook. People who had bought subscriptions based on unlimited books and 3 audios per month were now receiving a significantly worse deal. Having paid for one thing, Scribd changed the subscription terms in midstream. Also, the collection of books and audiobooks is now much more limited. Scribd was less than transparent in the weeks leading up to this change and would not provide straight answers to direct questions about thei policy changes. How could you trust a company that offers one deal and then unapologetically changes the deal the customer paid for!
As a concept, Scribd WAS fantastic. Originally, I signed up for the technical papers but I immediately fell in love with the ability to read any book I wanted anytime.
That is, until March 21. The update was forced, meaning I couldn't open Scribd until I updated the app. Now, I can't even access the book I am almost finished with.
Every time I open a book, it counts as one of my allocated books. I even if I sneak a peek, I 'm committed. I understand changing business models, but really? This was poorly executed. I would not be surprised if the subscriber base decreases dramatically. I will definitely consider unsubscribing if this isn't changed back.
In mid-March, 2016, the latest book I found among those I wished to read was published in late 2014. I have searched for books by writers I enjoy and found a few, but none recent. This seems to be a means of charging a monthly subscription for books that would otherwise by "remaindered." The software implementation on the IPad is rather kludgy. I won't be going beyond the thirty day trial.
You can't keep your books if you cancel your membership. Sorry for the caps, but I want people to know that THIS IS A SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE. Once you cancel, you can longer read the books. The monthly limit on books is awful. Their "new platform" is set up to fail. I wouldn't be surprised if you paid for their service and end up seeing the sight disappear, along with your money, within a few months. I signed up for unlimited books and audio in 2015. Now they have changed the platform. If you just have to use their service, use a prepaid card or PayPal. Do not give them your credit care and do not pay for a year.
Waiting now to see if they will cancel and refund me the money from an identity theft open case. Will update the review when or if they do..

I have already cancelled my membership back in December 2016, but still being charged for two months after!

Just to let you know it takes MAJOR steps to cancel your membership. I thought I had done it, but had not clicked through enough windows to actually CANCEL. It turns out, I had just deactivated, so keep clicking until you get to the little bar that says you have actually cancelled. They make it really, really hard for you to leave, and if you click on the wrong thing, or just assume you've done your job, you WILL get hit with a charge.
I never join or order something without reviewing, except for now! Joined for the "free two week trial" then read a review on the app, wasnt good, so came here. Yep they lie about the "unlimited"! You get 3 books or only ONE audio a month. Also read that they continue to charge your card. I immediately canceled, which took 6 pages as kept saying,"oh youre not canceled yet! Do you want to stay"? Over and over! Finally got there but i noticed my cc info was still on the account, so you also have to deactivate the account also, beware of this. Then I called my CC to block a charge if I could, they had ALREADY charged it! It was refunded after I canceled but will keep checking. I guess this company promised more than it could deliver but not being honest about it.
The practice of displaying a document that they own no copy write or written permission to incite people to give their contact information on the premise that they will be able to download that document for free is certainly unethical and I question if it is even legal. This site promises you a free download of the document you wish to view if you join and give your contact information but once you do that they do not provide the document for free they want to charge you a substantial fee for a document that they have no intellectual property rights to. Sites like this should be banned. It is up to us as individuals to pass on to others how they exploit consumers and vendors alike. Please do not support this type of behavior by visiting their site.
This business is slowly dying. Original deal was for unlimited books and unlimited audiobooks. That was fantastic, and I listened to a bunch of books during my daily drive. Then they limited subscribers to one free audiobook per month, and started charging for additional audiodbooks. Today I got an email stating that Scribd will limit regular ebooks to three per month. Not sure why I stayed this long, but I immediately killed my subscription after getting the updated subscriber terms today. Rip off, bait-and-switch, BS. Stay away.
I don't have any idea how this site got a hold of my credit card, probably I thought I was getting a free trial for some manual I needed. But they learned how to lay low and keep charging your credit card, they never send an e-mail or an acknowledgement of any type. Sneaky, sleazy and Immoral.
