The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, particularly concerning its subscription model and customer service. Many users report unauthorized charges, difficulties in canceling subscriptions, and a lack of responsive support, leading to perceptions of deceptive practices. While some customers acknowledge the potential value of the service for avid readers, these positives are overshadowed by frustrations with the platform's functionality and the quality of customer interactions. Overall, the feedback indicates a pressing need for improved communication and more transparent billing practices to restore customer trust.

I had several books in mind I wanted to read. Not one existed in Scribd's catalog! None of the books in my list was particularly unique or out of publication. Then I went and looked for books by some of my favorite mainstream authors, like Nancy Horan and Joe McGinniss and again was disappointed. What is the point of Scribd then but to get me to read books I wouldn't otherwise by interested in, in which case -- why am I paying for this service? I gave up and went to the library instead.
I signed up for a free membership and Scribd wrongly charged my account 47$. Despite a ticket number and several emails with proof, they have not resolved the issue with my bank acount. Instead, they have sent emails stating that they are too swamped due to the influx of credits changes and thanking me for my patience. As the website states, they do not have phone support... I'm wondering if they will ever refund my money.
Last year by error I try this suscripción and when I try to cancel they are always a troubled. One year later when I believe this nightmare is gone I see they Withrow money from my account. I can believe I have to Cancel my Credit card.
Hi Damaris, I can see that our support rep Ben replied to your email and issued you a refund on June 21,2016. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
After nearly 5 months of thinking I canceled my subscription to Scribd, I find out I've been being charged every month by them. It is because of their manipulative formatting when trying to cancel your subscription that I thought I'd cancelled my account. I am outraged and feel cheated. I have taken all personal information off that site and I suggest people do not subscribe to them. It has cost me over 40 dollars for not even using the site.
Hi Katie! I sent you a message on here on June 28, but have not heard back as of yet. I'd love to take a look and get this issue resolved for you. If you can email us at support@scribd.com, or if you can message us your account email address we can assist you. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I really hate how confusing it is to cancel their membership. You think you've cancelled but it takes two more steps after choosing cancel membership to make it work. Really feel cheated by this company.
I had seller account with 100s of documents for Sale, but suddenly they set all my documents for FREE, without my permission and any notice. I sent number of emails but they never responded. Its real SCAM.
I had been with this site a pretty long time. In fact, this month would have been my one year anniversary with them. I thought they were fantastic. Not only did I get unlimited great books, but they had most of my college books under their document sections. At a $9 a month fee, I had saved over a thousand dollars on those college books alone! Not to mention the app worked great with no issues, no ad interruptions, and no shut downs. I have never even had a bad experience with their customer service.
My issue with Scribd is their recent change. I am so distraught over it, my 5 star review has dropped to 2. What happened is, they went from unlimited reading to a credit system. You get 3 credits a month+1 audiobook (most books are 1 credit each). For that price I would rather go back to library visits. This would be okay for some, but I read anywhere from 10-15 books a month. What really angered me about it though, is members like me got no warning of this change. To top it all off, since I decided to opt out of my membership rather than continue it, they decided that I no longer get to read the books that I had already used my credits for (credits that I had already paid for and rightfully deserved to use). I am beyond disappointed in their choice to make such a sudden change and not warn their members before doing so. At the very least, they could have offered a package that still allows the unlimited reading. If it was about cost, I would have gladly paid more to continue the membership I had.
I have numerous problems with this company. The most frustrating is that their app does not work well. I've downloaded audiobooks that disappear from my phone for no reason. And when listening, it's not easy to go from streaming to using the download. Site navigation is terrible. As for content, their selection is limited. And much of it is abridged- yet they don't tell you it's abridged. As for cancellation, when you cancel, they won't give you your money back for unused credits. That seems like theft to me. STAY AWAY from this company.
I Have Two Documents For Sale On Scribd, Yesterday They Closed My Seller Account For No Reason... I Got This Message From Scribd Into My Account " Your account isn't eligible to sell documents "... I Heard Later That They Do That Randomly... Contacted Them On Support, No Answer Till Now... Yeah We All Know That Their Support Team Is VERY SLOW.
My Account Email: *******@gmail.com... Do YOU EVEN CARE, Jerry G (Scribd Rep)?
I have sent two emails to them in regards to getting a refund for a charge on a monthly subscription that I for sure thought I had cancelled. I still haven't gotten a response and I am getting very frustrated. I simply cannot get a response and if we MUST contact them within 30 days, my time is thinning and so is my refund. I understand they get swamped with emails, but this is not okay and my patience is drawing a line.
Hi Cheyenne, I'm happy to see that your refund was issued on Thursday May 12th, 2016. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks again! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I have subscribed as it was written 3$ for annual subscription, however per month was lightly visible. They charged 50$ without informing and saved payment card details, and the book I wanted to read is a sample copy not the original book. I have written them to refund but no reply yet and there is no contact number to reach. This site is Fraud and I am very frustated that I have even visited this site.
Hi Anju! I'm sorry for the confusion with the annual subscription. We show the full yearly cost on the billing page and I apologize if it was not clear. It looks like one of our support reps has refunded your charge as of May 4th, and you should see that refund in about 3-5 business days at the most. Thanks! - Zoë Scribd Customer Support
This piece of $#*! is the $#*!test company and $#*!test app ever. LITERALLY A $#*!ING SCAM! I got ROBBED of my money. So one day i was searching for some sheet music and clicked on this Scribd website then without warning it said you purchased a membership. Like what the actual $#*!. No $#*! i didn't purchase anything, there weren't any credit card details i need to fill out to purchase the membership but then it just started charging me and i think its a plan so it will continue to charge me money. $#*! this $#*!. Someone please file a lawsuit and get this company in jail. I need compensation. This company should die in hell. Period.
This is a terrible company, they steal your money and they continue to charger you even after you have cancelled the subscription. I have attempted cancelling my credit card, canceling my subscription through apple and the scribd website, I've called my back to get the charges blocked and they still some how manage to charge me. No matter what I do I get charged for a membership that I get no use out of. It says that I have no active subscriptions with their company and YET I'm still being charged. It's criminal and it is unacceptable. Also they won't return your attempts to contact them.

When I joined scribed, the first month went well. I was allowed to read any titles I wanted. I am not sure if this is to get people to think that their site is good. After a month, I was suddenly sent a notice that now you are only allowed to read 3 titles for the month and then scribd selects which are all the crappy books and there are only about 5 titles under scribd selects. This is pathetic and definitely what I DID NOT sign up for. Their membership is not cheap and we as paying customers should not be restricted on only 3 titles a month. I cancelled my account and I will not go back
This used to be a great service. I was happy until now when they made a lot of changes, they are greedy definitively, I have the service for 2 years. Today I realize that lot of books that I have been used study frequently for one year or more now they put in preview mode; what is the meaning of this? Well, now I must to download again this books and they are going to count in the free three mountly books, rely? I don't recommend scribd
I already sent three messages to Scribd to refund me, still no answer. They say it's the Netflix of books, but the charged me four times in a row three books, I feel fooled.
Hi Roberto - It looks like one of our support reps refunded your charges for the audiobook credits on April 18,2016. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns via support@scribd.com. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I installed this app a week ago & I was under the 14-day free trial. Well after day 3 I started to go into Search & while I was looking up different books, my tablet frozed up & it never did that to me before. I tried shutting my tablet off & nothing. After 24 hours with my tablet sitting idle on my dining room table, my tablet went back to operating mode but the screen said to charge immediately, I was down to 5% capacity. After my tablet was fully charged, I uninstalled the Scribd app & never plan to reinstall it. I have both the Kindle & Nook apps on my tablet & both of those apps have never made my tablet freeze up. I sent an e-mail to Scribd when it happened & I never got a reply back! I have a neighbor that is good with computers & I told him what happened & he told me he was glad to hear that I uninstalled the app & did not keep it for subscription purposes because my tablet could be going in for repairs or worse getting replaced & I may have had to buy a brand new one! No thank you!
Hi Lynn - I'm sorry to hear of the trouble you've experienced here. I do see that one of our support reps sent you a reply on April 13,2016 confirming your cancelation of the free trial and offering some advice. Let us know if you have any other questions via support@scribd.com. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
Don't worry you still have unlimited sheet music. Who the hell uses scribed for unlimited sheet music?! Charging more than Netflix in offering only three books a month without the offer of being able to keep what you buy, this app is the worst type of expensive whore.
The service is a joke. There is apparently no phone number to call to reach a live human being. My cancelled his account in August, 2015. Since then, he has emailed and called multiple times to try to get Scribd to stop billing him. No one has returned a single call or email. He continues to be charged. This is criminal.
Hi Jenny! I'm so glad that our Support Manager was able to resolve this issue for you and your son. Please do let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks again! -Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
This used to be a great service. After the most recent changes now it's just a piece of garbage. While the site professes to be user friendly, it makes it very difficult to cancel. What was a great business model is now simply going to become a failed business what a shame.
