The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, particularly concerning its subscription model and customer service. Many users report unauthorized charges, difficulties in canceling subscriptions, and a lack of responsive support, leading to perceptions of deceptive practices. While some customers acknowledge the potential value of the service for avid readers, these positives are overshadowed by frustrations with the platform's functionality and the quality of customer interactions. Overall, the feedback indicates a pressing need for improved communication and more transparent billing practices to restore customer trust.

I'm really surprised about all the bad reviews on here. I've been using it for years and i love it. I also had it for my husband for a bit and had no problems canceling the subscription for him. They only reason I came across these reviews is because I'm having trouble signing in with google on my PC (usually use my phone) and was looking for some answers. This is part of the reason for the one star missing. That and I can't ALWAYS find what I'm looking for, but I usually can. I commute quite a bit so I love the audiobooks and this is a way better price than audible. Plus you get all the other mediums too. Ebooks, sheet music, magazines, etc.
FRAUD ALERT. Scribd is definitely a "cash grabbing" site. They stole my money and charged me for 6 months of service after I cancelled my subscription. Their website notes the date of my cancelled subscription and the last date they say I paid for service. Yet their site does not reflect the following 6 months as they continued to charge me. I am not able to log in and use the service as the site says I have no subscription! SO They STOLE MY MONEY AND they REFUSE TO REFUND IT! This is FRAUD and they are clearly doing this on purpose KNOWING people wont notice right away. When I complained they said they have a 30 day policy and won't refund anything past 30 days. This is clearly set up to take advantage and steal from people. This is FRAUD. The authorization I gave them was to charge me for a service, when I cancelled that service that authoriation is removed. I want my money back. They also have no phone number and no customer service personnel. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE!
I have been a member of Scribd for close to a decade and love the service. I'm a voracious reader and can almost always find the books I want to read. Scribd's recommendation engine alerts me to other interesting books related to ones in my saved queue. They have a large selection of audiobooks, all included in the monthly fee. Their app works well on all my devices and the web. In addition I like that you can upload documents and pdf articles for reading on the site. To my mind, it's a bargain.

Thanks for contacting us here. We apologize for the trouble with these charges. Scribd is a digital reading subscription service. If you're being charged, there is likely a subscribed account causing the charges. So we can help you directly, please email us via our secure server here: https://scr.bi/assist, and one of our agents will assist you within one business day -EC
After cancelling my subscription I received a confirmation e-mail. Turned out, it was not stopped and drawn certain amount up until I realized after 1 year.
Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention, Pawel. We're sorry for the trouble you've encountered. If you're still being charged, this could mean you may have a duplicate account created with another email address of yours -- which would explain why you are being charged even after a confirmation. We would like to first confirm this though! Please create a support ticket with us through this link https://scr.bi/assist so we can get you a response within 48 hours. Thanks! -AR
Keep getting billed every month though I don't use the service. Hard to get it off once you subscribe.
Hi Ravi, thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. We're sorry for the trouble you've encountered. If you're still being charged, this could mean, but is not limited to, an unsuccessful cancellation or possibly a duplicate account was created with another email address of yours. We would be happy to locate this transaction and provide a refund in line with our Refund Policy (https://bit.ly/2Zs4bLh). Please create a support ticket with us through this link https://scr.bi/assist so we can get you a response within 48 hours. Thanks! -AR
Scribd is a scam. It says unlimited but once I finished my first couple of books every other title I searched for (even old ones like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) were unavailable in my country (and I live in a Spanish speaking country but read only English books!). Apparently they say "Because of our agreements with our publishers we have to adjust availability when necessary" (so basically you only get availability to the entire collection once a month, then they reduce the amount of available titles A LOT!). So, it is clear that Scribd is not truly unlimited.
I have read many other posts saying the same now and I will start to spread the word across all social media outlets: Scribd is a scam.
-----------
Updated! Reply from SCRIBD (as can be seen below) "Although some titles may not immediately be available, there will always be something available to read!" - So they list titles and books as available, but when you try to download them they say they are "not available in your country", thus it is not unlimited and hence it is false advertising in my opinion. What do you guys think? Please post your comments below.
Hi Dylan, we're sorry for any confusion caused by the way our library works. Although some titles may not immediately be available, there will always be something available to read! Our article here, https://bit.ly/2YNuefx can help answer some questions you may have. Unfortunately with titles that are unavailable in your specific country, there are publisher and author agreements that prohibit availability worldwide. We wish that could be different! If you would like us to look at your account and clarify your current availability further, please reach back out for more info and we can get you set up with an agent to discuss further. Thanks! -AR
Terrible company, billed me for 6 months AFTER i cancelled my subscription. I had also cancelled my account so that i had some certainty that i would no longer be billed, but this was a mistake as i no longer had access to attempt to cancel the subscription (again).
Thank you for informing us! We're so sorry to hear about the trouble. We are not able to continue to charge a subscription price if the subscription has been canceled, so something likely went wrong with your cancelation. That said, please no worries! We are happy to assist you with cancelations and refunds. First, please review our guide on how to cancel here: https://bit.ly/3gxxTVT and if you need more assistance, message our support team here: https://scr.bi/assist. Thanks! -EC
Hey, i'm just a little skeptical and frustrated because you guys charged me for an unauthorized payment and didn't give me a notice about it, i only just found out about it today when i sifted through my scribd emails to check when my free trial was ending only to find out you guys had taken my money without atleast notifying me a few days before of my membership ending. I want to receive help asap because i need my money to pay for ACTUAL necessities. Ticket #*******. I'd like it escalated.

After forgetting about the 30 day trial I ended up paying for a month which was my fault. But now after trying to cancel for 2 months in a row, NO success. I've tried to email them and they don't even monitor emails by a human. Trying to cancel through their website just doesn't work. Complete scam and waste of time. Especially if you don't have the money to pay. I'll have to figure out something to get the $30 back that they took. I don't want to hear any excuses from them. Just want my money back :/
Thank you for informing us. We apologize for the problem with your account and with getting in touch with support! To confirm, our agents are available via email and we can help ensure your case is escalated. I have listened to a handful of audiobooks before they all disappeared without warning. I thought unlimited meant I could listen to as many audiobooks of MY CHOICE as I liked but apparently not - as soon as they get the jist of what you're interested in they start severely limiting what you can choose, the "unlimited" books are absolutely dreadful and of no interest to me. This wasn't made clear at all when I signed up and I made the dreadful mistake of signing up for a year which they refuse to refund. Its a scam as far as I'm concerned, don't fall for it.
Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear there was some confusion regarding your Scribd membership and any inconvenience this may cause as we understand the importance of unlimited content. We do believe that Scribd is an unlimited reading service however, you'll notice the catalog rotates as you read. While we do not limit the number of books you may read each month, not all books may be available at all times. You can read more on how our library works here: https://bit.ly/3AHLnHj
With that being said, if you need further assistance, please use this link to connect with our support team: https://scr.bi/assist. Thanks again for your feedback and I hope this helps clarify. Thanks so much! -MR

Don't use this company and encourage poor and unethical behaviour to trick customers into subscriptions they do not use. Avoid.

So I cancelled my subscription to scrib on the 14th of July 2021 after being debited for a renewal I never used, but still got debited on the 31st of July 2021 for a yet to be understood payment.
I've submitted for a refund but I regret ever doing anything with scrib. With all I'm seeing online and my experience with scrib, my message is; keep off from scrib.
Same they have taken payment can't even get into app and not easy to complain and get payment back do not use
Hi Michelle, it sounds like you have an active subscription with us as we're unable to bill otherwise. We're happy to help with a cancellation and refund, so please use this link to connect with our support team directly for further assistance: https://scr.bi/assist

This is so bad.
I have canceled my subscription but still, got charged. This is not fair. Please I would like my refund, please.

Hi Afolabi, Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry for any confusion our cancellation process may have caused. That is not the experience we want our subscribers to have.
With that being said, once an account is canceled, our system is unable to debit your account for the subscription service. If you are still being billed this is likely due to the account not being canceled properly.
No worries though, we can definitely take care of this for you and ensure your account is canceled as well as look into your refund inquiry.
To further assist you please contact our support team here: https://scr.bi/assist and one of our agents will assist you -MR
I opted for a free Scribd trial on June 19,2021. Scribd charged my card on July 19,2021. I had forgotten my password and Scribd refused to send a password reset link making it impossible to attempt a cancellation as only logged-in users can submit refund/cancellation requests. This is unethical. Scribd should have a simple platform for those not logged in, to request cancellations and refunds. I also observed that Scribd sends only one generic email that does not explicitly inform the consumer that his card will be charged. I finally managed to locate a link in Scribd's introductory email that allowed me to submit a support request. I am surprised that a company of this size is engaging in such shoddy practices. I demand a full refund and the deletion of all my personal and financial information from Scribd's servers.
Hi Tonia,
Thank you for your feedback and I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced. Please allow me to clarify the terms of our free trial offering. We do not offer a standalone free trial. Instead, new Scribd members receive a free introductory period included as part of their purchase to our monthly subscription, which is why we ask for billing details right away. This way, there's no interruption for folks that want to keep using the service once the free trial expires and the membership can automatically renew at the end of the 30 days.
We offer a step-by-step guide on how to cancel your subscription to Scribd in our support article, "How to cancel your premium membership": https://support.scribd.com/hc/articles/210134046
If you need any further assistance regarding your cancelation, please create a ticket for our support team here: https://scr.bi/assist. Once the ticket is created, a specialist will reach out to you within 24 hours. Please keep any further communication within the email thread to make sure all your concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Thanks - MR
Like many of you here, I was charged several months after canceling my "free trial". I even was fairly certain I deleted my credit card info. STOP CHARGING US! You know what you're doing is shady if so many people are having the same problem.
Hi Sage, we apologize for any confusion here! To clarify, we can't charge a canceled account that's no longer rendering services with us, so the charges you're seeing would have to stem from a duplicate account or unsuccessful cancellation.
If you haven't already, please visit this link to connect with our support team directly for further assistance: scr.bi/assist
Once this is done, please update your review with your ticket number so we can make sure your case is escalated and resolved right away. Thanks! -VG
