This site actually used to be reasonable but it has deteriorated to complete trash. There appears to be zero review of the articles published and the writers, in general, don't have the knowledge of finance that even a first year finance student should have. Wrong assumptions, ignorance of generally accepted models and methods, and incorrect mathematics abound. Then when you point out their errors they either argue or get downright nasty even if you direct them to any of a number of commonly used textbooks which they obviously have no desire to read. Get your investment advice from your barber instead.

As a newbie investor I didn't know what to invest in and needed advice. Seeking alpha was the first place I found that gave"professional" advice. After 1 year from taking their advice I'm still down on all the stocks they highly recommended. Ideleted their app and stopped listening. Turns out I make better gut decisions than those professionals ever could. Oh they also freaked me out so much because they follow trends worse than anyone. If a stock is going down a little, no matter its potential the seeking alpha site is flooded with doomsday type stocks telling you how you're gonna lose everything. This results in you selling at a loss almost Everytime. Awful awful site. Stay away at all costs.

I wouldn't recommend this site. Their editing is sloppy, and the seem to only be interested in articles that make a stock look better than it is.

I submitted an article, and went through two editorial rounds that were mostly helpful, and I did everything that they suggested and then the third reviewer apparently only skimmed my article and missed some points that were clearly stated.

Specifically, he/she brought up issues that had passed muster in the two earlier reviews and claimed that I hadn't made the case that the companies cited had inflated some potential savings. The point of my article was that the rumored savings had no basis in fact, and I clearly stated that the source of the misstatement was elsewhere. While I went through all this, they posted an article from someone who knew nothing about the business, who repeated the misstatement that I had debunked.
There is no apparent way to respond to the editors, you just send them your revised article and they come back with a verdict.

Saw article by Gefvert on 3/26/2013 where he was down on CPST. Shows in his profile he has a short position in that company, and that he will not write anything about a company unless he believes it will have an immediate impact on it's stock. It appears he may be trying to drive down CPST stock to cover a short position. Now, whwether or not Capstone's business is sound is another store. I have made money trading their stock, and currently have a small long postion, so this caught my attention. I have studied their financials myself, and if you are investing in them (or any other company) you should do your own due diligence. In the end, the market determines what a stock is worth. There are many highly over valued stocks when viewed from a fundamental perpspective, but they are what they are in the marketplace. I don't believe any person on seeking alpha or any other site should be able to try and manipulate a stock. I see this story as totally biased.

Hi there,

Thanks for your note and apologies it took us this long to reach back.

We strive to ensure all our articles are factually correct but we do not keep any biases towards anybody's opinion. Authors are allowed to publish bullish/bearish articles on stocks that are long/short (respectively), providing they disclose their bias. Active investors with "skin in the game" often have some of the most articulate opinions on a stock, and we encourage them to publish their opinions on Seeking Alpha.

If you find a Seeking Alpha article containing a material factual inaccuracy, you can dispute it using the following steps:

Submit a dispute by emailing disputes@seekingalpha.com. Please be sure to include a link to the article under dispute in addition to the above information.
Identify precisely which section of the article you dispute (quoting the text), and provide supporting evidence of your claim that the article is materially wrong.
(Please do not use the dispute process to disagree with the author. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion about a stock; that's what makes a market.)

In any case, please always feel free to write to us at subscriptions@seekingalpha.com

Site lets absolutely anyone publish "investment advice" anonymously, as a result most articles are secretly written by stock promoters or short sellers looking to make a buck off of stock price manipulation. Premium service is also a scam, editors are only capable of selecting articles based on length due to their lack of financial knowledge and overall intelligence

The most comprehensive financial website for investors looking to research publicly traded companies. When initiating research on a company, I will first look to Seeking Alpha. Along with stock analysis articles, the website provides earnings transcripts and a breaking news section. I highly recommend the site for those interested in the stock market.

I have 3 issues with this site. It allows any tom $#*! and harry to put out articles, including people who have no clue about investing but make it sound like they do. Following clueless people in investing your money is one thing, but letting people with obvious monetary interest mess your mind up with biased or false info is another. That is, short sellers can put out negative write ups to knock stocks down, and it almost seems like they time it with coordinated short attacks. Look at ticker Gale as an example. Then, what really ticks me off is when I respond to the articles by calling out what is happening the moderators censor my comments repeatedly. Stay away from Seeking Alpha, completely untrustable IMHO.

Regarding their unfair and potentially illegal comments about NNVC on 2-12-14, it seems someone representing SA was trying to steer the market on this stock for personal benefit. I would not trust this site.

Not every article that Seeking Alpha publishes is awful, but the majority of them are. Very many of the articles are written by college students, and this shows in the sophomoric style of writing, which resembles verbiage tossed together for a term paper due the day after a frat party. The ideas expounded in these articles are usually as uninformed as the writing style is sophomoric. The authors usually have no clue what they are talking about. Of the remaining articles, most all of them are written by people who have a position in the stock, or often a short position, and are writing an article that strives the manipulate the stock to benefit their position. This is manifest in the articles, and the arguments they present are usually risible. Very few of the articles they publish are worth reading; the majority of the exceptions are articles that were originally published elsewhere and that Seeking Alpha has added to their site. My real concern with Seeking Alpha is the possibility that the editors and owners are selective with the articles that they publish, to benefit the position that they personally own in the stock. This is a loophole of sorts in the SEC guidelines. People who advocate a stock, or who speak negatively of a stock, are required to disclose the position that they hold. But the rules are ambiguous with respect to the owners of a web site such as Seeking Alpha. I am convinced that Seeking Alpha was created primarily to take advantage of this loophole, so that the owners of the site would be able to manipulate individual stocks and get wealthy while doing so, all without breaking any laws. It is inherently difficult for legislation to prevent this kind of thing, and the owners are well aware of this and are taking advantage of it the fullest. The bottom line is that virtually nothing that you read there should be believed.

Seeking Alpha allows anonymous articles on stocks to be written by short sellers. I have no idea if that's a violation of SEC rules, but it should be. And it certainly should be against Seeking Alpha rules. I don't see how anyone could trust any of the content on Seeking Alpha

Seeking Alpha is one of the new sort of stock research sites where anyone and their mother can write an opinion about a company. Some of the articles are OK but a lot of them are really bad. So you have to spend hours sorting through the junk to find anything worth reading. If you really want stock tips, try Barron's.

Great site for finding blogs about stock picks. The Stock Picking section is good for a quick read to see what people are buying and selling. It went down because of a DNS attack but it seems like it's back for good.
