Shutterfly's reputation reflects a mix of strong product quality and significant customer service challenges. Many users appreciate the quality of photo books and personalized items, often highlighting the durability of products. However, recurring complaints about service delays, order inaccuracies, and inadequate customer support overshadow these positives. Customers frequently report issues with refunds, communication breakdowns, and technical difficulties on the platform. This blend of satisfaction with product quality and frustration over service reliability suggests a need for Shutterfly to enhance its customer service approach to improve overall customer experience and retention.

I spent a great deal of time getting my order together after entering a link on Shutterfly.com that indicated I would receive unlimited free 4x6 prints if I downloaded the app. However, at checkout, I am being charged 0.15 per print, plus shipping. The link to the promotion is still on the website. https://www.shutterfly.com/mobile/ However, apparently this promotion is no longer being honored. Customer service will not honor this promotion in anyway. I have a newborn baby and work full time, so I do not have time to recreate my order on their website, which is the only place they will give credits. I will never order from this Company again.
I understand that items can sometimes be flawed, considering how many products Shutterfly pushes out on a daily basis. I have had some decent orders from them. On the most recent $500 order I purchased from them, I received a damaged canvas (not from shipping) and an extremely dark acrylic picture. When I contacted them and explained in detail that the canvases edges were not lined up
Correctly and the acrylic print was so dark you couldn't even identify the people in it, they responded with that they are so terribly sorry for this inconvenience and that they recommend I use a better editing software so therefore they cannot help me. Considering I use Adobe Photoshop for a living and the images I sent them were from a high resolution Cannon camera, needless to say, their email felt quite shockingly condescending. When I write back and requested to speak to a manager, after 2 days, I received another email (with no manager contact info) and they asked how they could help rectify the situation. Once I RE explained the issue again and sent in my original pictures and then images of what I received, they finally gave in and said they could replace ONE of the items (the acrylic one). They said it would show up as free in my checkout page... I went to order the acrylic print yesterday and noticed it was not there. I contacted customer service (again) and received an email today apologizing (once again) for the inconvenience and that my order window expired therefor they were unable to help me! Do not look forward going through this cycle of a process again. As I said in the beginning, it is completely understandable for an item to occasionally be faulty, but the poor customer service has been outrageous. I am a huge custom orderer and have spent thousands of dollars. It is unfortunate that Shutterfly will forever lose my business if they cannot fully rectify this. So disappointed.
I ordered on app 500 pics. Shipping was fast even with holiday. The color is dark and off in several pictures. 80 of the pics cropped people and ruined pics. I will never order again. Bad quality. Don't crop pics!
There app doesn't work and they do nothing for you to get the promotions on the website so i can order them. Not my fault there app is a piece of junk! RECOMMEND NOT USING THEM CAUSE YOU CAN SPEND MONEY AND THEN WHEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM THEY DO NOTHING TO FIX!
Your site totally SUCKS $#*!! Total WASTE of time.
Impossible to get a selected photo. They want my entire photo library. Nothing has changed in years to make any part of this site better.
I ordered a couple of 12x12 pictures and they came cropped. One of the pics had one side of the picture missing and the other had the top and bottom missing. I emailed them about it and I'm still waiting for a response.
I have been using Shutterfly for years, and have probably ordered nearly 10 photo albums from them: but this will be my last time doing so.
I ordered an album with colored backgrounds, but when I received the book the pages all had a white backgrounds. It was also missing a pocket that I had ordered (and had the receipt for). I called customer service and was told by the first girl that there was nothing they could do because i ordered the book wrong (remind you, I've done this multiple times and have never had an issue / I know how to order from them...) They offered me 50% to reorder it - after i already spent $60 on the book in the first place. Then I asked to speak to a manager and she proceeded to, again, tell me that it was my fault and that she would send me a new book but I had to pay for shipping?
I should have had the correct book sent to me without a 30-minute phone argument with 2 separate individuals. I also shouldn't of had to pay for shipping on the second book. Shutterfly has lost my loyalty
Shipping takes longer than stated on their website. Shipping says it will take 6-10 business days to deliver so I ordered it 10 business days in advance to get it in time for the gift date. The estimated ship date said it would come in the 6-10 day window when I placed the order. Turns out it's coming 13 business days later and ruined my gift. So I paid for shipping that did not deliver on time. Great. Just use a different photo service
Shutterfly has a "100% happiness guaranteed" statement on it's web site. We received a book that was not at all what we expected. The "guarantee" is a credit to a future order... not a refund or full credit for the product. I feel that the guarantee statement is... simply put... false advertising.
That said the product is good, even though quite expensive. Costco offers a good, and less expensive, alternative.
I ordered two photo books for easter, and paid for expedited shipping 3/18. I then received a conformation email saying thank you for my purchase. About a few days later, I received another email on 3/22, which stated that my purchase had shipped. I tracked my package everyday up until 3/25, when I realized it had not shipped by UPS on 3/25, I called Shutterfly explaining to them what had happened. The girl that i spoke to blamed the shipping occurrence a problem by the weather, then the other two people said it would be here on its scheduled date 3/26. I called UPS, who told me they had never received the package. I have always recommend Shutterfly, but this time i will not, in fear this will happen again. If i could rate this from 0-5, i would rate below a zero.
I was first 'introduced' to Shutterfly through an internet search for wedding save the dates. Because I was a bride on a very strict budget, I took advantage of the promotion they were having at that time. My save the dates were beautiful and they came on time. So I ordered from them again because I got another promotion for some free cards so I decided to use it to get the Thank You cards for the wedding. Needless to say the cards were beautiful and I got the cards in a timely fashion... Because I ordered so much through them I was able to get a discount on a photo album. I made the album and made some mistakes by duplicating a couple of the pictures a couple of times, so this is why I didn't give them 5 stars because they should've caught that and asked me about it so that I could've corrected it... but none the less I was happy with the album... so fast forward a couple of years ( I got married in 2014)... I recently took advantage of their Leap Year offer for free frig magnets. I ordered 4 of them on Feb. 29th. I was told that they wouldn't arrive until March 16th. I couldn't quite understand why so long, but I wasn't in a rush so it really didn't matter. But I received my magnets yesterday and they are wonderful. I have nothing but good to say about Shutterfly.
Now let me say this, I didn't know anything about Sitejabber before I ordered from them and I'm kind of glad that I didn't because I wouldn't have ordered the things that I needed for my wedding from them. I'm not sure why so many bad reviews, but unless something changes down the line with my ordering I am a loyal customer.
If you are ordering a gift from Shurrerfly, plan way ahead or use a different company. Lots of great deals and discounts mean nothing when their shipping is so slow. Our calendar was shipped in the 19th, and as of the 27th, we still haven't received the package.
Terrible customer service. Had a $20 discount and wouldn't let me buy something $19.99 because it had to be over 20$. The funny thing about adding one more small thing to your cart doubles the shipping cost. Lost me as a customer.
I placed an order on Shutterfly on 12/3/15 that had a promotion - use Visa Checkout and receive $20 off your next order. I didn't receive an email with the code right away so I wrote on their Facebook wall on 12/4. Many other people were having the same problem, according to comments. They said to message them so they could assist me. I did, and they said "Sorry for the confusion - you'll get the code when the order you paid for with Visa Checkout ships." So I waited and got busy with the holidays and realized almost a month had passed and no code. So I messaged them back on 1/5/16 and they said to check my spam. I said I did, and no email. Then they said, "Oh, your email settings are set to receive no promotional emails from us, so we had no way to contact you." Well, it was no problem for me to be emailed when I ordered so I'm not sure why the promotion attached to my order could not also be emailed, but I fixed the setting and asked them again to please send the code. No response for several days. So, I asked again on 1/9 if the code could please be sent. Then they said, "We'll pass this along to our marketing team so they can verify you qualified and have someone get back to you." No idea why it would take that long to verify that I did, in fact, pay with Visa Checkout. I never heard back from them. On 2/10 I responded one last time to their facebook message to let them know how disappointed I was that no one ever followed through with the promotion I obviously qualified for, and again, they did not respond (keep in mind, their facebook shows they respond to messages "within minutes.") I wrote a factual post on their facebook wall today advising that I was never provided with the promotion I qualified for, and not to bother messaging them for help because they would not follow through and would eventually ignore messages requesting assistance. I also noted that all the recent visitor posts to their page said their print quality was "horrific" and that it's just as well they didn't send me a code since it appears their product quality is just as poor as their customer service. After checking back this evening, I see they removed my comment warning others of their lack of customer service and follow-through with promotions. Needless to say, I will not be using Shutterfly in the future.
I had two $20 coupons with SEPARATE codes on them and was not able to use one of the codes because "it had the same first four numbers therefor the system recognizes it as the same code" even though the rest of the string of numbers WAS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Spoke with a customer service lady who said that there was nothing they could do about it. I wasn't offered anything for my troubles, just told that they had a lousy 30% off that was site wide. I worked on a photobook for a week, and the only reason I started it was because I knew I had a $20 coupon. Such a ridiculous and stupid reason that it wasn't able to be redeemed. Very unhappy.
Just like any company, some people have bad experiences, some have good. Felt like I should share the good.
I have ordered from Shutterfly SEVERAL times to say the least. Most recently, I orders various print sizes of images from my honeymoon. I got all my photos, they were exactly as they should be, all the right images and sizes, EXCEPT one order of 2 12x12 images. The box had clearly been injured and taped back up, but not before putting a dent and a scratch in both images. I immediately took pictures of the box and the photos, emailed Shutterfly to explain what happened, and figured I would have to wait for awhile. I got an email confirmation for a reorder of those 2 images (no charge) within a half hour of submitting my email. Then got the follow up from their customer service apologizing for the inconvenience and letting me know they were replacing the photos.
That kind of customer service you can't get just anywhere anymore. Very happy with my experiences with Shutterfly, don't know that I will order from anywhere else.
Shutterfly has the worst customer service I've experienced in a long time. I ordered photo calendars for relatives last December, specified that they should begin with January, and somehow they thought that meant I wanted 2015 calendars at the end of 2015. Their website should not be set up to allow for such a stupid default. It is sloppy, and worse, they blamed me for the mistake and refused to replace the calendars. They have lost my custom forever.
We ordered on the 12th of December and still don't have our cards. It's now passed onto the post office so who the hell knows when we'll get them. Even the slowest lowest rate shipping should have had them delivered by now.
Ordered a book for Christmas, on December 14th guaranteed delivery by December 24th. Called on December 23 because the UPS showed it still in Arizona (I live in MA). I waited for 60 minutes to talk to someone and she told me there was nothing she could do and I would get it the next day. December 24th and no gift. Don't use Shutterfly! Completely unprofessional
They told me I would receive my order on the 18th, but it is the 24th and still isn't here... Who wants to send out Christmas Cards after Christmas? Horrible costumer service!
