StartEngine is nothing but a scam site pretending to be an investment platform. Hundreds of junk companies with shady founders are listed at ridiculous valuations. (I was able to cancel all my proposed investments and get out unscathed... but just barely.
Also, good luck trying to get in touch with anyone in customer service. The phone number doesn't even work! And, they don't answer emails either.
Don't believe ANYTHING you read on StartEngine! Search them on YouTube and Google, you'll find tons of information on StartEngine fraud, scams and criminal founders of the companies listed. This company wants only one thing: to fleece you of your many to enrich themselves and these company "founders".
Howard Marks and Kevin O'Leary should both be in jail, but have been able to apparently stay just one step from being indicted. STAY AWAY!
I have been in Start Engine for Over Two Years and Invested in Over 35 Companies
Customer Service Does Not Answer You or Gives a Nonsense Answer after a Week or Two. They Are Terrible.
The BBB in Texas Gives Start Engine an " F " Not an A Like Start Engine Claims.
The Only Ph# *******200) to talk To Start Engine is FAKE and just tells you to Email Them
Some of the Crowdfunding Companies Do Not Answer You, and Have Fake Addresses, & Fake Telephone Numbers.
I have invested with about 10-15 companies through start engine. Then, randomly one day (as i had 2 more companies waiting to fund), i received an email stating that they were kicking me out. They said they were closing my start engine account. I emailed the person back asking for an explanation. Nothing! No response! Not justification for their actions! A week before this happened i was verified with a national REIT as an accredited investor. Thus, i am still at a loss for their actions and not even the courtesy of an explanation! All they did was send me my subscription agreements and stock certificates.
I've invested in 23 and growing start engine companies. I keep close tabs on progress, updates from each company. A few high potential companies on start engine were worth my time and money to invest in first, second, third round fundraising efforts.
I find it very easy to use, quite organized. Rather than issuing all my portfolio funds to wealth manager, I enjoy the hobby of reading about smaller start ups on my own.
The issue previously reported on October 2021, that my $3000 fund sent to them was not viewable on their webpage, was finally resolved on June 2022, that they send back my money.
I sent money of $3,000 dollars to them as a fund for investment, and I could not see it on my account page for many months, even now.
My name is Sonia Rocha and i invested over 8 months ago a very good amount of money, suddenly my portfolio was all Cancelled or Refunded, problem is i never received anything from StartEngine cancelling my investment's which i have copy of all investment, and never got refunded, it's been over three months fighting wit them without any results, they keep passing the ball to a different person every time i tried to solve the problem.
As far as i can see, it's a scam, and i might have to find a lawyer to solve with them.
Be very careful or don't invest with Start Engine at all.
I bought some shares over a year ago and when I decided to sell it back I got a run around response as follows:
"We intend for StartEngine shares to be quoted on our Secondary platform following the close of our next campaign, though we do not have a clear date for when this will happen. We will notify all of our investors when trading is available in the future."
They are discussing a mysterious Secondary Platform that nobody knows what, how and when it will be available, This is their excuse in holding your money indefinitely. What kind of investment company who does not even know when and how their investors can recoup or retrieve their investments. The reason does not even makes sense as to the relationship between their initial offering and their Secondary platform which is the excuse they use for you to wait indefinitely to cash out.
Apologies for the issues you encountered. Your shares of StartEngine are able to be sold via our Secondary trading platform. However, as we previously stated, StartEngine is currently conducting its Regulation A+ offering, and SEC regulations require that trading be temporarily closed. No orders can be placed during this time period. Trading will resume on StartEngine Secondary after the current offering has closed. StartEngine's secondary marketplace, which allows you to buy / sell shares directly through our platform, is live and can be accessed at: secondary.startengine.com. I deposited $1000 thinking I'll use it to invest in a startup. When I tried to invest, it told me I had to use fund from my bank directly. So now I have $1000 sitting in there and can't be used. I also tried withdrawing the money since Im in need of it, but it says that they are in the middle of a system transfer. It's been like that for half a year now.
Thank you for providing this feedback. I'm sorry for the issues you encountered with your account. We would be happy to help you resolve this immediately, please contact our main Help Desk at: contact@startengine.com
Please don't use this company and they use to be good, but now is very very bad, it's all about startengine and keep holds funds once money raised. Give any excuse for delay reimbursement. I make a big mistake to use them.
Thank you for sharing your feedback Vincent. We regret to hear the experience you have had. The final disbursement has been issued this last week and they will be sending over a final reconciliation report. If you have any questions, we recommend reaching out to your Campaign Manager directly and they will ensure your issues are taken care of promptly.
I invested two years ago. Can't get my money out. I thought that it would be a safe investment since Kevin O'Leary was involved. Getting in on the ground floor sounded like a great opportunity. Now it says 5-10 years. I have not seen any growth. No potential upside. Just money stuck in limbo. BUYER BEWARE. Has anyone been seen growth?

You will regret it if you invest with this company its been years and i still have not been able to do any trades with my shares that i bought through this company it cost me $700 for this mistake
I invested $1,000 in a company (less than 10% of my income per year like guidelines) and after 5 weeks Start Engine sent an email that they are sending my money back and closing my account without a reason of why. When I asked, I had no clarification. I have not received my $1,035.00 back as of yet and I am getting VERY concerned.
We have confirmed your refund was successfully processed, though if you have any further issues, please let us know.
I managed to easily get refunds from investments I had made as well as the subscription fee I was not expecting. I am going to continue to explore Start Engine because there are mixed reviews about it and the concept is still a good one.
So far, start Engine is responding well in refunding me for the subscription fee that I was not aware that I was to pay. I am told also that I will get a refund of one of my investments that I am cancelling. I am still learning about this company and will keep you all posted!
They just keep hitting my account with new BS charges. I am unable to sell the shares that I purchased legitimatly and they contiue to pile on more BS. Such a crock. Don't fall into this one, it will cling to your shoes and stink.
Hi Nan,
We're sorry to hear you had a poor experience with us. We would be happy to resolve any charges you did not anticipate- please reach out to our support team for assistance at contact@startengine.com. As outlined in our educational materials that investors acknowledge reading before creating an account, these shares are illiquid and there is no guarantee of return on your investment. We recommend investors learn more about investing in early-stage startups through exploring our help center and FAQ page.
THIS IS WHAT START ENGINE HAS POSTED AS OF OCT 2021. "Investments in startups are long term (5-10+ years), high risk, and illiquid as there is not an established market for private securities, so there is no guarantee you will receive a return on your investments or that the company you invested in will IPO, merge, or be acquired." IF I KNEW THIS WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED I WOULDN'T HAVE INVESTED.
Hi George,
This information is all correct, and we disclose this information in many places throughout the investment process so investors can understand this before submitting their first investment. We include this in our educational materials that investors confirm they have read when opening an account, as well as in our FAQ's on the checkout page when submitting an investment. We appreciate your feedback as we strive to make investing in startups more clear and simple for our community.
As of 3/11/22 I now own 117 shares at a value of $3.66 ea. Total $428.22. I'm still unable to sell my shares as the company Start Engine is not allowing their shares to be sold on the companies ATS system (Alternative Trading System). The companies that do participate in this bogus system only operate between 1 and 3 pm. I will try to keep you updated but as I said before "BUYER BEWARE".
After 15 months of owning 39 shares of Start Engine at a cost of $507.00 I'm still unable to sell my shares. Also, I have no idea as to the valuation of shares, also web site is difficult to navigate if your trying to sell. If you want to buy, everything works great. Buyer beware, very illiquid, consider strictly as a long term investment and be willing to lose all of your investment. I was fooled by having Mr. Wonderful (who's not so wonderful) Kevin O'Leary involved. He's damaging his credibility in my opinion. Hope this review helps.
I was thinking of drawing money out of my Robinhood account to invest into this company. You people saved me thousands of dollars soThank you very much, I'm going to block them from my E-mail from now on!
Hi Mark,
Investing in early stage startup companies isn't for everyone, and we encourage every investor to do their research before investing with us. If you change your mind and would like to explore the alternative investments we offer on our platform, we recommend reading our help articles and FAQ's at https://www.startengine.com/investor-faq.
I don't know how I signed up for that when I was just trying to make an investment into TruSo. Be careful when you are investing. They throw frivolous useless options in during the process of investing. I accidentally signed up for a $275 Owner Bonus Crap when I was just trying to invest. This site is ridiculous.
Hi Thaddeus,
I'm sorry to hear that! The owners bonus subscription is an additional purchase you can make when submitting your investment. If you purchased this subscription in error, you can write to our support team at contact@startengine.com and we will happily cancel and refund this purchase for you.
They messed up when opened my account as an IRA transfer to Etrade. I requested a transfer from Copmutershare to Etrade. It was blocked. Now my shares disappeared and account closed. When I called the company, they hung up my phone!
Hi Honcheung,
We apologize for the issues you've encountered here. We responded to your recent support request and sent an email to anyone affected by this issue to notify them that Computershare has corrected this issue. I am sorry to hear that Computershare declined your call, though we recommend you contact their support team if you have are still having trouble accessing your account.
I am an avid investor and I was looking for a way to invest in a new technology.
I just gave a handout, for people without morals, to scam money from actual hard working citizens.
After investing I was made aware that the shares I bought were not tradeable... And that the shares I bought weren't actually worth anything. They come from a pool that has No weight.
The company only wanted $1,000,000, about 2,000,000, but sold 100,000,000 worth of shares.
All extra money made goes straight into pockets of officers, not to the company.
Once they hit their investment mark they should make it clear that any other money produced from shares sold does not go towards company.
Just advertise it like it is... investors donating money to blowhards.
Hi Peter. Before creating a StartEngine account, investors receive a link to our educational materials that explain these investments are illiquid and high-risk. These same disclosures are present before submitting an investment. We apologize for the confusion, and encourage all investors new to equity crowdfunding to read our help center articles and blog posts to evaluate if these investments are right for them. If you have any further questions about equity crowdfunding, we encourage you to reach out to our support team at contact@startengine.com.
Answer: Yes, StartEngine is absolutely a legitimate business to invest in. Most recently they've hired Kevin O'Leary from the investment TV show "Shark Tank" as their new spokesman. They are currently the 10 fastest growing private company in CA.
Answer: Hi John. Refunds are processed within 10 business days. To check on the status of your refund, please reach out to our support team by emailing contact@startengine.com and we'd be happy to assist.
Answer: Hey William, Thanks for getting in touch with StartEngine, we are happy to assist with your question! To clarify, companies that raise funds on StartEngine are private companies, so unlike companies listed on the NYSE or NASDAQ, their shares do not fluctuate in value on a day-to-day basis. These investments are considered longer-term and not immediately liquidating. Typically, you will only see a change in the value of your shares if/when the company raises additional capital or goes through an exit event, such as an acquisition or IPO. And keep in mind that your StartEngine dashboard won't reflect any changes in share value – it only shows the initial terms of your investment at the time you made it. If you have any questions about the company and its progress, we recommend reaching out to them directly through the "comments" section of their campaign page or website. If you want to learn more about investing in startups and the potential outcomes, you can check out the articles at www.startengine.com/blog/investing-in-startups-101 and help.startengine.com. If you have further questions, please feel free to reach out to our support team directly at contact@startengine.com. Thanks for using StartEngine and have a great day!
