I purchased a cashmere sweater with gift card returned it, but I was told it went to my account as-digital merchandise credit, don't trust this, they steal the customer money.
Yesterday, I took my 87 yr old mother to the Talbots store in Schererville IN. She purchased several tops at great prices. Today I took two of the tops back to exchange them for a larger size. Which were not available. I had the receipt! Therefore a simple refund on her credit card was the transaction that I was expecting. I was in the store for one hour and twenty minutes before the simple credit was accomplished! The sales associate worked on register 3, then register 2. Then talked to several help line people within the Talbots organization. The registers would not process a simple credit to a charge card. I had the receipt! Finally, as the fiasco was coming to a close, the transaction processed using register. O e hour and twenty minutes later! Oddly enough, the register that the sale had processed on the day prior. I believe this to be a total fail on the part of Talbots computer/register system.!
Talbots is masterful in making clothing appear as though they use high-quality fibers which combined with the beautiful styles and great fit, have made them irresistible. However, the constant disappointment after the first and very careful wash that results in faded and obviously very poor quality fibers has cured me of my desires to shop at
Talbots. Not even the 50% off coupon can lure me into the store.
I understand that initial deception and low quality have resulted in higher profits but I am tired of being taken advantage of.
Do NOT trust their shipping dates! Terrible service. They send items when they feel like it. Definitely do not pay for expedited service. No one on their customer service line knows anything. Lots of excuses. I shop online frequently and I have never had such terrible service as I have had from Talbots.com.
I shopped at Talbots outlet in Bluffton on Thursday. I hope I am writing to the correct place but I had to tell you how GREAT Judy and Shirley were. I did not know how else to do it but they went above and beyond. Please let them know that I appreciate them very, very much.
Thank you

Hi,
I have been a loyal Talbot's customer for more than 30 years. They charge $8 for shipping and $7.95 for returns. Free shipping only after $1000. 00. This is terrible and unheard of and because there is no store near by I get these ridiculous charges. The clothing is not good as years gone past and they are crooks. My husband unfortunately bought me a $400 Gift certificate and I returned a suit to a store not near me and was NEVER told the credit would not go back on my gift card and when I tried to use it my credit was not accepted. I called Talbot's Corporation and was told that I would only have the credit at the store I returned too. If I paid by American Express card for example the return would be credited to my American Express card. Unfair practices! I always shop online due to a disability. Quality not as expected and advise to shop elsewhere as the materials and colors are the same over and over, not worth the money.
This review of Talbots is part of my "Hall of Fame" series... companies that once were aces... but have lowered their standards.
You epitomized the look of the classically well dressed American woman. Timeless styles... natural fibers.
Now your goods are made off shore... the styles are tight and skimpy... what on God's earth happened to you?
Get your preppy groove back on please... come back to your loyalists.
Three commonplace stars for you, Talby!
Being a size 2, Talbots used to be a mainstay of my wardrobe for well over 30 years. However, they must have sold to some low quality outfit. The dyes in their tee shirts don't even last one season. Shoulders are sloppily done. I saw the change around 2016. I don't even open the catalogue any more.
I have been purchasing clothing from Talbots since the 1990's and it was always good quality the sizing was consistent it was my "go to" place. Now the sizing is not consistent and the quality has gone way down. In addition I think $8.00 shipping and $8.00 return if you don't care for the item is outrageous. I think I will be looking elsewhere for my winter wardrobe.
I walked into the Talbots in Birkdale Village tonight with a specific request for shoes. The two women who were working there looked at me and asked what I was looking for and then immediately said no we don't have that and went back to their conversation. No interest in engaging with me or trying to help me find an alternative. When I walked out there was no acknowledgement other than them continuing their personal conversation. Just amazing.
I keep trying to like Talbots but their clothing is junk!. Many shirts and shorts don 't make it past ONE wash! I can buy clothes at Old Navy or even Walmart that hold up better!
Talbot sent the wrong order, still waiting for card to be credited. DO not order online, they screwed my order up.
Talbots used to carry very stylish and quality clothing. Their sweaters are nice but they've started using a lot of rayon and nylon mixed with the cotton. Even new you can see signs of early pilling. They use a lot of prints in their blouses and dresses that are dowdy looking. Many of their dresses are made of polyester and if not for the price tag I would expect to find them at Target. Many of their styles are quite frumpy. Their shoes are cheap quality with a rather high price tag. The only time it's worth shopping there now is when they have their clearance sales i. E. 70% off already marked down prices. They offer a lot of costume jewelry. $29.99 for a fake pearl wrapped in gold color metal. I would expect to see it at Kohls for $9.99. For the prices Talbots charges, regardless how nice the store looks or how nicely the clothing is hung on wooden hangers, you would spend your money more wisely by visiting Ann Taylor. Much more fashionable, much better quality.
Talbots needs to get more fluent, nimble & competitive in its return & inventory system. This decentralization of its stores & the utter disconnect from its online inventory system is the reason they lost a customer today.
As a Process Manager of a fortune 50 company, I see how this company will soon be closing its doors. So here is what has happened multiple times & just this week:
I purchased 2 items last week online at 70% off. Both shirts were too big. I went to the store to exchange & they had to be ordered again online due to out of stock in store. I ended up paying $6.00 more for my 2 shirts because they could not just do an even swap vs refund & repurchase. How inefficient! I lost the 70% off sale PLUS my 10% off birthday discount. It took 37 minutes of my time in the store to get ripped off. I called customer service just now & they would not refund me the difference!
The following are major business flaws w/ Talbots. I will be staying with Macys now & Amazon Basics line as a result.
~No... I wont or dont use credit cards to get free shipping, thank you try again Talbots!
~Why cant you offer IN STORE PICK UP vs spend over $100 or spend 35+minutes in a store, to get free shipping? It will cost you more $ w/ a min of a 30 min trans to pay an employee to ring me up! Everyone else has site to store you better wake up!
~ Why can't you do an even exchange why do you have to refund and then repurchase that's just inefficient.
~Why cant I repurchase a return item at the same lower cost you initially repilurchased it for if the item costs more today? Thats a BAIT & SWITCH!
~Checkout process is slow!
~Too many chatty old ladys work there.
~Stop running your brick & mortors as individual businesses
I ordered a sweater that was never delivered. I can prove it was not delivered thru my security system. I have contacted Talbots several times and they keep giving me the run around. At this point I suspect it is my loss however I will no longer shop online or in store. To bad for Talbots because I purchase several items a month.
I have ordered from Talbots for years: loved their quality, style and could rely on the sizing. Not so anymore, Quality is questionable? 100% cotton? Doubtful? And the cut and sizing are all different. I am petite and before I wore a size 6. Now even a 4 is too big. I did notice that the clothes are made in Indonesia so that probably answers alot of questions. Still high prices though.
A few weeks ago I purchased several items at Talbots using a $20 coupon and then within the week every single item was marked down considerably. I repurchase four of the items at a substantial discount and today went to the store to return the higher priced items. Rather than scan my original receipt, the clerk brought up my entire order history and did a credit to my Talbots charge using the lower priced items. I caught the error and had her fix the error but even when she scanned my higher priced receipt the system brought up my entire order history making it difficult to ensure that I had gotten the best priced on my items. What a headache! It would be nice if I could have simply brought in my receipt and asked for a price adjustment rather than to have to play this game to get the best price.
I also think that they should offer free shipping to their credit card holders for a minimum purchase. It's a hassle to use the red phone and it would be so much easier to shop from the comfort of my home and get free shipping and free returns. They certainly charge enough money for a little t shirt to cover the shipping!
Not the quality it used to be. And the shipping is ridiculously high. I was going to order a pair of jeans... one pair $8.00 to ship! And $6.00 tax! Forget it
Title says it all! You pay top dollar but the clothes are cut skimpy, fabric is subpar. Just NOT the same Talbots. I'm done
I used to love Talbots. Shopped there for 30 years. The clothes are not the quality they once were but the prices are unchanged. Also NEVER order on line. When they have a sale you will not hear from them on the status of your order nor can you reach customer service my phone, mail or chat. I made the mistake of ordering a full price item during a sale and have no clue on the status. I may never use them again. Beware!
Answer: China, where everything else is made these days. I don't think many, if any, of their products are made in the USA.
Answer: They are sneaky. Waited over a month for a jacket, returned it and a month later I asked where is my credit. They said they received and put a credit in my account (not what I wanted as I purchased jacket elsewhere) but never notified me they received and I have a credit. In other words, they just keep unsuspecting customers' money and never tell you. I will never shop there again (except to use my credit if I can't get them to credit my card hahaha)
Answer: I have never had an issue with exchanges. I have never requested a refund.
Answer: The quality of the clothes going back about 10-15 years ago was EXCELLENT. I still have shorts purchased then but they are now showing their age. Purchased similar over the last get years and while they are still $60 the quality is on par with perhaps Walmart
Answer: They are easy to reach and cooperative. They are responsive to customer's needs
Answer: They are a legitimate company and have been in business for many years
