This review is about Storenvy as a platform for building your own shop, NOT about how good or bad individual shops are that utilize it. What I love most about it is that I was able to build my own storefront to represent my brand with very little technical knowledge. I get to have my personalized shopfront at a very low cost. The site is still growing and more and more futures are being added. There is always going to be somebody who's not going to like the changes, but they are necessary if we want Storenvy to grow bigger and continue to provide us with awesome tools.

Storenvy is a great platform for small business owners. It's easy to use and is free! You can also opt into their marketplace for a small fee which helps drive traffic and sales. I started using Storenvy instead of Etsy and will never go back.

Storenvy has allowed me to create my own online shop, designed by me, for my handcrafted goods. Unlike many other ecommerce sites, storenvy allows you to customize your storefront. An added plus is that when opening a custom store, you are not subjected to numerous fees like you are on other sites. If you are looking for a place to direct your customers to, a beautifully laid out store front, easy to navigate pages, and seamless checkout, I would test out Storenvy.

I love it!

I think people are being a little unfair to the site. I've been a seller and buyer for a little over a year now and this is what I think:

The storefront is one of my favorite things! You can customize your store to look how you want it to. And for a small monthly fee, you can completely customize it and have your on domain! I think that's a good deal. At least you get the option to customize it unlike other sites. It makes the your store look more unique and you can show the theme/style you are going for. It's harder to tell on other sites where you can't really customize.

It's easy to use on a smartphone as well. I don't have problems using it.

Please keep in mind that those 'scams' where you buy something and it doesn't get shipped isn't the site's fault. It's the actual individual store owner. It's like ebay, not all sellers will ship an item or do something perfect. You have to check the individual seller and see if they look trustworthy (like with ebay or any other site). I always make sure the seller is trustworthy with any site I buy from (regardless of how good a site's reputation is). The items people sell are, in my opinion, unique. I find a lot of vintage and fashionable items there a lot easier than I would on Etsy.

I've had a couple of sales with out problems as well. I was a little skeptical about Stripe when I got my first sale from it but it's been going smoothly. You can turn of Stripe if you don't want to use it. Just do more research and don't jump to conclusions.

The traffic is a little slower than other sites but it's because it is not as well known as others. If you really think about it, a 10% fee on a sale isn't that much. You get 90% of the sale. The site is doing YOU a service. The least you can do is pay a fee for it. Not everything is free. Make your own site if you want to take all the profits.

Its an awesome platform for online sellers. I know more than 50 sellers on this platform & they all love it. The community is super helpful and really comes together to help each other. If you sell online, you should definitely try Storenvy.

Former store owner
June 18, 2015

Everything I liked about Storenvy went up in smoke with the recent changes. The 10% commission on sales (including shipping costs) for marketplace sales (on top of the stripe or PayPal fees) was too large a cost for my small business to eat and my goal was to keep prices competitive. Then the checkout problems started. People not able to checkout from my custom (and not subject to the 10% fee) store, forced to go through the marketplace (and the mandatory 10% fee) store. Customers that I had gotten myself, no help from Storenvy. Setting me up with a stripe account I never wanted (so they could get their fees).

Then there's the set up. The interface for listing new products is slow, cumbersome, and old. It's not a user-friendly interface at all. It takes a long time (even with extremely fast internet) to load pictures and it's difficult to move items around in the shop (drag and drop from a list that, also, moves extremely slowly).

No. Stay away from Storenvy. It's a racket. I'm back at etsy and I've never been happier. My sales are up, my fees are a lot lower than the 13+% I would be giving Storenvy.

I loved Storenvy. I had my shop powered through them for almost 3 years. I had hundreds of sales... and than they decided to make the changes. First was that they were going to take a 10% commission on all marketplace sales. I thought it was a little high, but whatever. I had maybe 9 marketplace sales the whole 3 years I was there. But than, they announced that you had to use Stripe. I started researching Stripe and discovered that their customer service was terrible, they have no buyer or seller protection, and their fees are higher then Paypal. Alright, I'll just turn my marketplace shop off so I didn't have to deal with that. I was cool with that. But what I wasn't cool with is when I got an email from Storenvy that they would be creating a Stripe account for me! Umm... no... that's not cool. So, I decided to leave Storenvy. I was a huge supporter and even referred hundreds of people to Storenvy. But, they went about these changes in the wrong manner that didn't sit well with me. All I've seen are complaints about Stripe and am so happy that I made the switch back to Etsy. Maybe one day once they get everything together I'll be back. But until then I'm happy with my decision.

I ordered a product from a Storenvy store (Atelier Dream) in late March. After waiting a month, I finally contacted the seller. She claimed she'd been on vacation, but was working on my order and would send it the next day. Six weeks later, I still hadn't received anything. I tried contacting the store owner, but no luck in receiving any response. So I contacted Storenvy directly. After a couple weeks I received an email telling me they were unable to get a hold of the store owner so they had shut her store down, and they recommended I file a PayPal dispute to get my money back. I heard from the store owner a week or so later, saying the order "must've gotten lost in the mail" and that she would send another one. She said she would refund my money for the inconvenience. Well, thankfully I *did* get my full refund, but I never received the order and it's now nearly three months after I placed my initial order! Her store is still up on Storenvy (despite them claiming to have shut her down), and I'm absolutely appalled by the whole situation! It's disgraceful! In short: DO NOT BUY FROM STORENVY!

Unfair Reviews
June 11, 2015

99% of the reviews I read read are extremely unfair. They are NOT about Storenvy itself, but about the SELLERS who have stores using Storenvy platform.

The only point I agree with reviews here was that sometimes people asked for a refund from Storenvy itself and they either take a while to reply or to process the refund. But you can ALWAYS go back to Paypal or your credit card/bank and request a refund through them...

I do not work on Storenvy, I had a store there about 6+ years ago and left at the time because they didn't offer digital downloads yet.

I was looking for good quality virgin hair and came across this site from their Facebook page. www.facebook.com/thatflygirl. At first I was a little nervous about ordering online, but they had great customer service. I ordered my products and received them within 4 days. I ordered the virgin Brazilian body wave grade 6a. There was very little shed, and no smell. The hair bounces back to new after every co wash. Would recommend this seller.

As a seller, when I first started using Storenvy back in 2013, I absolutely loved it. It was easy to use, free, and I could use Paypal for all of my transactions. Speaking as someone who has been selling online since 2007, it was a dream come true and one of the best selling platforms I had ever used.

And then came the changes.

While I don't mind paying a percentage to Storenvy if I sell through the Marketplace (honestly, it's only fair, and I'm just happy no listing fee's are involved), what I do mind is being forced to use Stripe.

Stripe is glitchy, in turn makes Storenvy glitchy, and their fee's are ridiculous. It makes customer support even more difficult when instead of an instant refund like on Paypal, it can take up to two weeks for my customer's to receive a refund if needed. Also, in order to pay shipping fees and the like, I have to wait until the money has been deposited into my bank account which adds even MORE time onto people getting their orders.

Plus there's the fact that as a rather small business I have never opened up a business bank account (why pay for that when I can essentially have on on Paypal for free?), and it can wreak havoc on your personal finances when you have a shared bank account and hardly think it's fair to ask your partner to go over every single little itty bitty charge they intend to make when half of it is their money anyways.

If they let me use Paypal in the marketplace once again, I would willingly pay their 10% (even if it is a bit steep) commission on sales. I'd even be willing to pay a flat monthly amount at this point. But Stripe... what a disaster.

I honestly wish I could give this company negative stars. Ordered a shirt from a seller 7 weeks ago. I was charged on my credit card and never recieved the order. I tried to contact the store owner and it was apparently a phoney email. So I contacted storenvy directly and it took them two weeks to tell me that I need to ask my credit card company for a refund. It's not my credit card company's fault that storenvy can't get their stuff together and refund me directly. Honestly disgusted.

So I found Storenvy on pinterest and decided to try it out because there was a lot of cute alternative clothing. I had decided on 5 shirts in my shopping cart coming to a toal of 90 dollars plus shipping and at first it showed around 100 total. So I proceeded to where I would put in my card information but I changed my mind on one of my items so I went back to the total/edit page. And It showed my total as not 100 but 5089. 00! I was completely shocked but really happy that I had gone back to check. This site is a complete scam DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!

Hey there. This is the first time we've heard of something like this, and I can assure you it's not intentional or dishonest in any way. I'm not sure how your total was so high. Maybe the quantity of the items in your cart got increased, or maybe one of the merchants you were ordering from temporarily increased the price of their item while testing.

In either case, Storenvy is a marketplace where businesses list their stuff. We don't sell anything directly.

But apologies if something unexpected happened. This is the first time we've heard of it.

SCAM
April 26, 2015

Complete scam... Take your money but never ship the products. Tried to contact the seller no response. Why would they? They already have your money. Storenvy does NOT regulate the sellers so there are crypt people pretending to sell items when in allaccuallity they have no plans on ever sending you your items you purchased
100 percent not worth it! They deserve less then 1 star... Storenvy should be SHUT DOWN for allowing it to happen. I smell a lawsuit about to happen

Its been more than 8 weeks and I haven't seen my dress. After days of pestering I got an email from Allure couture stating they had taken over poppy petals couture( the seller I purchased my dress from) and that they would ship it that Friday. Been 6 weeks haven't heard back from them. Complained to store envy about getting my money back and they said they would, and never heard back from them either. Don't waste your time and money.

Heart broken

I bought this really cute Dylan O Brien case and i was so excited to use it and get it. It came this weekend. When i opened it today, i had been expecting it to fit on my ipod 5, but i was unpleasantly surprised with an iphone 4 case. I am actually in tears because i was so excited and in love with it, but i cannot use it and there isnt a way to send it back. Dont buy from store envy, they suck.

Disappointed
February 25, 2015

I am a store owner at storenvy, at first when I made an account it was very lovely. Super easy to make sells, I got very good feedback from customers. When a customer would purchase an item I'd get the payment through PayPal. But now they are forcing me to switch to stripe which I do not feel comfortable doing. I got an early notification around December 2014, and was told that if I didn't create a stripe account my store would be closed and I wouldn't be able to make sells. But then just this past week I noticed that someone had made a purchase and I didn't get any notification! Turns out the payment was sent to stripe and NOT my paypal, and since I don't have a stripe account I can't take out the money! I have emailed storenvy staff several times and have not gotten a response. I do not trust stripe because it asks for very personal information like (social security, bank account, taxes ID. Etc). This site has let me down. Very very disappointed. I have yet to wait for a response..

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SITE! For awhile now my friends have been talking about Storenvy and I thought that I might give it a try. After finding a vintage denim plus size vintage skirt in my size for a reasonable price I was ready to purchase it. It took me a whole week to try to make up my mind about whether I should buy anything from there or not. On February 14th I decided to purchase it. I waited for a full week to see when I could be expecting it when I decided to email the store owner To ask why my order still had the status of "awaiting shipment". That was this past Saturday. When I checked it on Sunday my order status changed to "On Hold" & the store that I purchased it from was gone! It was like there was no trace of this girl or my skirt or the store! I emailed the site itself and have still not gotten any feedback from them! This was my first time ordering from them & It was a HUGE MISTAKE! They are no help whatsoever. I hope they read these reviews and understand how horrible they are at business
