While thier prices are good thier c/s sucks. If you have a problem you are sol. I probably should weigh the food I get as one person suggested.
Sent me the wrong type of food from what I ordered. No returns of any kind. Not worth my time to try and contact them through the meager info they have on their website. I guess its a good business model to just let customers fall between the cracks. Never buying from them again, not to mention all their products have a prop65 warning on them! Have some poison with that treat!
Having some difficulty finding bulk grains locally, I opted to give Bulk Foods a go. Initially I was a bit put off by the higher cost (and shipping) but wanted to explore them as a useable option for my needs. My first order was for their 8 & 12 grain cereals as well as packages of their raisins and dried cherries.
First the cereal - hugely disappointed, expecting more rolled grains both bags were heavily ladened with hard mullet and other bird seed like products :(. The 12 grain was closer in content to my local bird food store - relatively unusable (tried it but just could not do a 2nd go, offered it to the local birds and they passed as well). So the overall recommendation on the cereals - a firm no go.
Secondly the dried fruit - a good product all in all, no major complaints.
At the end of the day the higher cost of the products coupled with the out of pocket for shipping (not to mention the below average cereal) made my experience a one off and one not to be repeated.
I will not order from these folks again. My mixed nuts with peanuts was 3/4's peanuts. And nothing was fresh. My second order I received stale almonds and mediocre Honey roasted peanuts. I was told there couldn't be a refund because I opened the bag! I asked "You know, don't you, that I have to taste the nuts in order to tell that they are stale?" so far no response. Do not order from these guys.
I recently purchased a 5 lb bag of powdered kale to use in my healthy daily smoothie. The product menu suggests that this product is pure, natural and healthy, but makes no mention of the fact that it is a product of China. When I contacted them about my obvious concern and disappointment, I was never offered a refund and they defended themselves by saying that although they did not disclose it, that they didn't keep it a secret either. I immediately threw the expensive ground (whatever it is) in the trash and would not advise anyone that cares about what they consume to purchase from this company.
Ordered their Natural Apple Rings and they tasted amazing! Packaged nicely and securely and the package didn't have any holes/dents unlike other companies. Looking forward to trying their other products
I'm a retired chef that takes pride in everything I cook. I've been plant based for over three years. In our current location, non of the outlets offer jack fruit. In the past I've used canned young jack fruit, always draining off the liquid beforehand. I came across your website this past October. I prefer to buy in bulk, ordering four pounds of jack fruit as well as three one pound bags of assorted herbs.
It's now time for MY review of your products.
Jack Fruit. I'm still wondering what it really is! I have made three separate style vegan dishes since your product arrived. No matter how much seasoning, or liquid, or cooking it and prepare it several different ways, the same overpowering, unpleasant flavor bullies it was through!
I experimented one more time today cooking up a smallish batch of Olive Oil using your garlic and onion product including salt and tomato paste. No matter how much I purposely over salted and over seasoned this product, the final taste was always that pungent overpowering flavor of ( I don't really know what to call it!) Intitnaly I serpaerted the original bag into ½ pound zip locks freezing the lot. As of ten minutes ago all the frozen bags were tossed in the trash!
Have ordered from here several times. They have provided prompt accurate service and I would recommend. No more trips to stores that wouldn't have what I needed in stock.
My local grocery store has stopped carrying bulk foods, so I gave bulkfoods.com a try. I ordered brown flax seed, chia seed, and walnuts, and threw in a few other things (goji berries, dates, and chocolate caramels because hey) in order to reach the $5 shipping limit. I put in the order April 4th and on the 7th received an email saying it had shipped. They shipped Priority so I got it 3 days later. The items were packed in heavyweight, sealed bags. I just finished decanting it all into storage containers and it's all good quality (the walnuts are better quality than my grocery store). Didn't bother storing the chocolate because it's been that kind of a week..
Despite reading some not so flattering reviews I decided to support the underdog and ordered; Order: YZTAUEZNM placed on 2020-04-01 15:18:44. Delivered within 2 days which was quick, product was fresh, in sealed bags and I must of gained 5 pounds so "Thanks for everything Bulk Foods."
I was very skeptical after reading all the negative reviews. I think this company may have seen those reviews and turned over a new leaf in terms of business practice's. My friend and I placed our orders together and we ordered $83 worth of food and I will honestly say that all the food that we did receive olooks great and the order correct! I placed my order on 3/30/2020 Monday and it was here Wednesday early afternoon which is today April 1st ( no this is not a April Fools joke). I am completely satisfied with my purchase.
I've been buying from this company for 10 years or more. It started with dehydrated onions and garlic. Don't forget the French peanuts. I mostly buy items I can't find elsewhere for a better price. Those French peanuts went quickly as my spouse loves them. I dry canned a quart with my seal a meal and oxyzorbs. Humidity is high here and candy and everything else clumps into a ball of wet. I didn't order the chicken base as these are very salty. Salt is their flavoring preservative like bullion cubes. I order mostly vegetables and not powered vegetables. Onions, garlic, potatoes, bell peppers, celery and coconut milk. My spouse likes the Jordan Almonds. If you order fresh nuts like walnuts, cashews, almonds, peanuts or pecans you cannot store them in their bag in a kitchen cupboard. The oil in these nuts will go rancid and they become a loss on your part not the suppliers. You have to learn how to store your product. I like this company, have never had a problem with shipment or with payment. I'll keep ordering from them. Thank you Bulk Foods.
I ordered colostrum powder which cost me a lot of money and instead got vitrago (whatever that is) no indication on the packing what the ingredients is. I send an email to complain! Waiting for a response! Very dissapointed. I cannot use it as I don't know what the ingredients is!
I bought 20 lbs is Cardamon seeds. I had to throw them out, I opened the package after I month stored in my refrigerator to keep freshness. I buy and use and store them for over 1 years. These are the worst quality that I have bought, no fragrance, taste or smell when ground up or even when the package was opened, they will not let me return because of the 30 days passed. Never buy from them. I am cook and writer, I know my spices.
Just grabbed the bulk foods bag of cashews off the shelf because I didn't feel like eating meat today. Got home, craved something to munch on so I opened up the cashews. As I was eating then i stared ready the bag. I noticed there were imported from places like Vietnam and india from which I'm aware they add a lot of illegal chemicals to their produce. I then went straight to the bulkfoods website and couldn't find much info on their products so I started reading things like the terms and conditions. I actually says this ( on the small print on the website) " THESE PRODUCTS CONTAIN CHEMICALS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS AND REPRODUCTIVE HARM"
What the f*%k
While reading this I started feeling unwell and abit itchy. I guess bulkfoods just cares about money and not real food products from which it advertises. Stay aware people research definitely pays off.
My first time ordering from Bulkfoods.com was flawless. I ordered seven products (September, 2019) - all one pound quantities of raw nuts and dried fruit. The website was a little awkward but functional.
After I ordered, I read some negative reviews and got worried I would have some problems. I usually read lots of reviews before I order anything so I felt kinda dumb that I didn't follow my usual routine.
In two days, I received my order. Everyhting was well packed in heavy plastic sealed bags, with resealable openings. I weighed all seven bags individually on our kitchen scale and they all weighed 16.3 to 16.4 ounces. I then opened each one and smelled and tasted each product. I was especially worried about the nuts being fresh but they were all fine.
I make my own trail mix and this order saved me about $2/lb when compared to what I can buy locally already mixed.
Perfect!
I ordered the powdered spinach, powdered kale, and dried orange peels. The spinach and kale powders were lighter than similar products I have purchased from other venders and that I have made myself, which I found odd. When I placed in a container, I started coughing, which was also odd. When I actually used it in baking, the taste was not palatable. The orange peel bag also came torn and customer service was quite difficult in addressing this.
I purchased a 5 pound bag of Maple Nut Goodies from them as I had in the past. The product was so old it was not edible, like gravel! The company said that because the bag has been opened it was not returnable. Be aware that if the product is bad you can not return it. Find someone else to purchase from as they do not stand behind what they sell and do not care about the customer!
Ok, I checked many sites looking for seeds/nuts/beans, and bulkfoods has really really good price. But the reviews are so bad so I hesitated for a while before place my first order. Got it yesterday and I checked 4 items out of the seven I ordered and it was very good quality from what I can tell. No issue at all. I popped the Amaranthseeds and mixed with peanut butter, my coworkers loved it. I will continue order from bulkfoods and hopefully I will not get issues like others. I will update after few orders to track the overall quality.
The person who answered my phone call today was adamant that product country source info would not be divulged, per "higher authority".
Although we have previously made large purchases from their product line, basing them on where the stuff originated -- last was several years ago -- Info that has come to light in the interim from Mike Adams of NaturalNews.com, and others, has made it clear that those products that originate in China have potential to be contaminated with heavy metals/pesticides, or worse. It is highly improbable that I am singly aware in that regard; hence, the stonewalling of my own request for source info. It cannot be mere coincidence that bulkfoods is located on Lake Erie, where the Chinese import so much of their "stuff" into the U.S.
Having reviewed the feedback from others, it would appear that their packing and shipping quality must also have slipped badly of late. To add to what Cheryl M. Said, I also had stored multiple dehydrated items that reeked of SO2 when I recently checked some of them, namely the dehydrated apricots, apples, and other fruits. I'll second her statement re the soup base and beef/chicken (soy) bullion (half salt) which has badly deteriorated in flavor to the "yuk" stage. Surely there are other more trustworthy sources for similar foods. Doing a web search immediately since it appears I'll be dumping most of what I have. It will be worth paying more to know sources of what goes into my body if that is what is required
Answer: Each package has a label that indicates country of origin. Unfortunately, I don't think that information is on the website but it's worth asking them.
Answer: I just received an order (April 2020) and everything I received was very good quality.
