Harbor Freight has garnered a mixed reputation among customers, with some praising the affordability and variety of tools available. However, a significant number of reviews highlight persistent issues with product quality, including defective items and poor customer service experiences. Common complaints revolve around strict return policies, including restocking fees and unhelpful staff interactions, which have left many customers feeling frustrated and undervalued. Overall, while the company attracts budget-conscious shoppers, its customer service approach and product reliability appear to be major areas needing improvement to enhance overall satisfaction.

I bought an airless sprayer and as im putting it together one part was defective. I went back to the store to return it exchange it. But they had none to change. And I need to hurry up and figure out something because the job needs to be finished. I was charged a restocking fee of $120. I said really. You guys are going to resale it when it no good. They said no there not going to be resaleing it. Ok then y am I getting charged a restocking fee when you can't put it back in stock to resale it. To me that's a rip off. Restocking means putting it back for resale. I should get my $120 back. Wat a rip off. Becarefull people. Now I don't have enough money to buy a new one. If you don't think this is wrong of them. Then it is Wat it is. But if it was happening the them I bet u they would be pissed. Rip offs!
Purchased a Predator 2000 generator. Product does not come with oil, adding oil will guarantee spillage, there is not run clock so you on not know when to service AND the starter rope broke on second pull. I went to return the product very frustrated, due to lost work time on a project and 2 hours of driving time. When I arrived I was extremely frustrated. I did not curse, I do not yell, however, I stated that PREDATOR 2000 was a $600 door stop. Since the manager did not like my attitude of frustration, he did not provide an exchange or refund--which is in the fine print. Harbor Freight can deny a customer a refund for ANY REASON check the fine print. So if your are frustrated, a person of color, a senior citizen, or a person who does not identify as binary they have the legal right according to their fine print to not provide any customer service.
I received 20% off any one item coupon via email. I then drove 54 miles to mt.vernon il. Only to be told it was valid on certain items that is not what the bold print on the coupon said it was in the fine print DECEPTIVE
Shame on me for waiting 3 months and a day to take this jack out of the box, but, I have followed the directions and bled the hydraulics multiple times and the jack won't lift the 2 ton car. Literally 1 day out of warranty and they will not even say anything except that I should have bought the extended warranty!
I recently purchased a 1/2 HP transfer pump.
I ran the pump and the pump was too weak.
I simply wanted to return it to the Harbor Freight store that I purchased it and purchase a 3/4 HP transfer pump. (Drummond) I also purchased the warranty. When I returned the next day with the pump, manager said it was policy that I could not return it. He said I had to go online and submit a return form to get reimbursed.
I called Harbor Freight customer service. She took my information and said that I should receive a check in TWO MONTHS.
Are you serious? What kind of policy is this?
I'll never go to a Harbor Freight store ever again!
CHANGE YOUR PUMP RETURN POLICIES
Harbor freight tools. Oops that's Harbor Junk Tools to be honest. This company does not take care of there customers. I had bought an air compressor with the extended warranty. A year later the air compressor needs to be taken back for an exchange. Because Harbor Junk Tools no longer has the air compreser available I have to pay OVER $200.00 for another air compressor more then what I had paid for the extended warranty. This is about the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened with Harbor Junk tools. Harbor junk tools wants you to buy the extended warranty knowing that they only keep their products for a short time, so the customers will ALWAYS need to pay more out of pocket when exchanging a product with the extended warranty. It's about what they can get from customers instead of treating the customer right. Save money and time by shopping at Home Depot or Lowe's. I will NEVER purchase anything again from Harbor Junk Tools because that's the quantity you will get. That's why they are only a 1 1/2 star company.
I'd give them a zero if I could. Deceptive marketing, sending me an email saying I left stuff in my cart that I had ordered, prompting me to re-order and then they refuse to cancel the order, days before it shipped. And then the duplicate order shows up short. 45 minutes on the phone with customer service and getting nowhere. Never buying from them again
Another company claiming to be American owned with absolute horrible customer service! Had 2 cashier's 2 lines I walked up got in line cashier took another customer out of another cashier's line put them in front if me.When I complained I was looked at like I was wrong.ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC MANAGER PATHETIC CUSTOMER SERVICE
Order my mechanic tool boxes and still waiting for them.Harbor Freight tracking sucks.Other then that once l do get the stuff it's good quality on the things l ordered anyway
Had been a customer until I tried to purchase items over a weekend on their advertised 10%-30% off every item in the store sale. I found out this was very fraudulent and deceptive advertising, as I live a distance away, I tried to purchase $500 worth of tools by either online or phone during the sale with a pickup one day after sale ended. I happened to be in the store without my coupons and they would not honor the sale. When I called during the sale with coupons in hand, the manager said it was "corporate" policy not to sell anything over the phone and suggested I purchase it online. I asked if I could purchase online and pick it up in their store the following day and he said no. I mentioned that their competitor Northern Tool lets customers do that. The store manager replied very arrogantly, "Well maybe you should get your tools at Northern Tool." That is exactly what I did. I would not be surprised if Harbor Freight is owned by some money grubbing foreigners, that is how they treated me. I have no plans to ever purchase anything there again.
What is it that a successful business like yours has such a miserable manager? The white bald-headed fella on St. Andrews road, Columbia, South Carolina store. The man does not even stop to say hello to anyone. He's not very helpful when you ask him everything's a problem. He looks miserable. He is miserable. How did he ever become a manager? The staff in that location are so helpful. Why they are so helpful. Maybe he frighten them into being helpful because they know as well as many of your customers and myself. Know he is a very miserable unhappy looking man. He will not take the time to see even hello. Good morning, good afternoon to anyone I know he's busy. They're busy but there is no need for rudeness I would. Respectfully like your comment back on this matter.
Was not aware that they charged restocking fee of 20% had purchased a socket set for locking lug nuts got home found it didn't fit any of my vehicles so brought back to store returned item they clipped me for 20 dollars will never shop at harbor freight again pretty disgusting to charge for returning product that doesn't work for customer will go to more reputable store I guess you don't get what you pay for at harbor freight
The store in Baxter mn is the worst location I have ever shopped. Nothing is in stock and the management is a bunch of arrogant dinks. I shop competitors and pay a little more. Not impressed. At one time harbor freight was a great place to shop, not anymore.
Purchased a cordless grease gun last week. Went to use it and it would not prime. I was at the store looking at them and the employee said the Hercules was the best. I purchased it and the 2 year warranty. I went to use it and could not get it to prime. Im a mechanic by trade so I know what Im doing. I went today and was going to exchange it and try again. Things happen I might of gotten a bad one I don't know. I was told that due to my warranty report they could do nothing.no exchange, no return, nothing. So I have a $300.00 cordless grease gun, battery, and charger I can't use. I always buy the warranty and have returned only generators in the past that fail within the two years. The cashies always tell me that if it breaks, doesn't start anything just return it under my warranty. Then buy another warranty. So my generators now have no warranty or my tools. Great job Harbor Freight, you took my money and didn't stand behind what I paid for.
The tools sold at Harbor Freight are not the same quality that they compare their tools against. They are just trying to justify raising their prices. I understand the quality is lower than the major name brand but they don't need to raise their prices and say that the tools are compatible.
The Synchrony Bank that is with Harbor Freight credit card has terrible service. Send them a payment 6 days before due date, and they didn't get it applied by due date. Minimum payment was $65 and I sent $125. They wanted to issue me a late payment fee.
I then did the electronic payment method instead. Got confirmation number, and the day after the payment was due, they send me a payment past due notice. They claimed payment was not received, and was not applied. This credit card bank is very questionable. Would never recommend them…. February 2023. I called and made payment and got confirmation number and they still charged me a late payment fee. I am cutting my card up, and all this for only $500 limit. I am done dealing with this joke of a credit system, I have 6 other cards and never an issue.
Trying to talk to someone about this was also a complete joke. The automated system sucks!
I purchased this sprayer 8 months ago and used it for short durations six times. I went to used it today and it stated leaking at the bottom where the pump attaches. It shorted out the whole pump system. What a piece of junk!
The Pittsburgh hand tools are quality hand tools. I wrenched for the better part of 50 years. I am a double master certified ASE technician and purchased Snap-On almost exclusively. Save your money and purchase Pittsburgh hand tools when possible.
You can usually find what you're looking for if you see it online at Harbor Freight.
The experience I've always had at Harbor Freight, is they are not very forthcoming in helping you find something. They are as bad as Home Depot.
The other thing is, they are as slow as molasses in February when it comes to checkout. OMG!
I grew a beard while I was waiting to check out.
I pump transfer pump yesterday I take it by next day and he don't Money back Alu $60 Glen Burnie md Ruth 2
Answer: I spent 24 minutes on the phone with them only to be told their product was perfect and problem was with my network. The person did not have a clue about what he was talking about.
Answer: I cannot see the particular part you are inquiring about, but could you make something to work? I am thinking you are referring to the notched piece that the handle locks into. Remember, you do not need to duplicate the piece, just make one that works. If you want to send me a picture I would have a better idea. I do have the smaller one which I think is similar. mountainsofwv@gmail, com Jim
