Roku Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company is mixed, with some customers appreciating the quality and ease of use of Roku devices, particularly for streaming content. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns regarding customer service, including difficulties with refunds, unresponsive support, and frustrating terms of service changes. Many users express dissatisfaction with the lack of assistance for technical issues and the burdensome return process. This combination of positive product experiences overshadowed by poor customer service practices suggests a need for the company to enhance its support and communication strategies to improve customer satisfaction.

Roku worked for a year with my TV, then roku auto-reprogrammed my roku box and roku remote control with no permission from me, and no notification.

ROKU auto re-programming killed the remote's ability to control my Olivia TV set.

DO NOT BUY ROKU stuff, it is a fraud.
They will wreck your roku box remote ability to control TV, at 1 year to make you buy a new TV set.
DO NOT BUY ROKU.

This company is horrible. They push untested software updates which break TVs, then they act like they don't know what's happening. You can't opt out of updates (like you can with Android TV). You can't go back to a prior version that worked for you (like you can with Android TV). If/when it happens to you, you're out of luck.

People go to the support forum, and Roku acts like it's the first time they've heard of the problem. They blame the TV manufacturers. When asked how a manufacturer caused Roku's update to be buggy, they have no answer. When the next person reports the same problem, Roku acts like they've never heard of it before.

To me, that was the most stunning thing I've ever seen. I can understand companies have bad support. But, this is outright DISHONEST. I don't see how those employees can go to work in the morning knowing that they're lying to people. It's a very corrupt company who doesn't care about customers. (In fact, IMO, Roku doesn't think of you as a customer. You are the product being sold to content providers. First and foremost, that's your relationship to Roku. Not a customer who spent big dollars on a TV. If Roku breaks your tv, they don't care. Absolutey, 100%, they do not care.

I was on chat last night for over 2.5 hours trying to login to Paramount+ a subscription I've purchased thru Roku! Three different agents could not figure out why. They all told me to contact Paramount+ for further assistance. I called Paramount+ they had no record of Roku reporting paid subscriptions to them. I contacted Roku back and no one would respond to my question! Paramount+ open an account on my behalf with a discount for month!

Roku is a Joke
February 18, 2021

You can not watch 5 minutes of a program without it stopping and starting up. The Roku company should be runt out of town for selling this piece of junk. All you watch is commercials, a waste of money, unless you enjoy Nissan commercials..

Roku is a joke and a horrible company to deal with. My last product I purchased was a streambar, and it is a piece of junk. The first one arrived broken (the optical port was damaged) I sent it back and had to wait for a replacement and by the time the second one arrived I was out of town so by the time I got to use it and figure out it was a piece of junk I was outside my 30 day refund period and they won't refund or credit my account they just want to keep sending me a new soundbar. Sending me a new soundbar isn't going to fix that it is a substandard rebooting, crackling, muffled sounding piece of junk. I have had three and all of them are garbage. Their devices have no security to stop your curious toddlers who might push buttons from purchasing things you don't authorize or if you accidentally hit the wrong buttons, so I suggest to never enter a form of payment on any Roku device because their customer service will NOT issue a refund for a purchase even if it was accidental. I figured it out an hour or so after it happened because my card said their was a charge that I didn't make on there and I called Roku and they said they will not issue a refund in accordance with their return policy even if it was an accident and not authorized by me. The real only way they give you to contact them is by email and they will get with you when it is convenient for them within the next 24-48 hours. Like I said this company is horrible to deal with and has some junk products they don't want to stand behind and has a customer service dept. that is worthless, that will tell you what they are going to do and not ask what you want to be done within reason to be satisfied. Like my junk paperweight soundbar, I wished they would give me a credit for this piece of junk and I could send it back so I can get something that works but they rather keep sending more junk soundbars my way, it just doesn't seem economical for them to keep paying the shipping fees to send a device back and forth that I feel is a subpar piece of junk

Best Streaming Option
December 15, 2020

About 10 years ago I began a journey to find the best streaming option to cut the cord. Studied and compared so many different options as well as tried a few. One caught my eye as it seemed to meet all of my needs that winner was Roku. Pulled the trigger purchasing directly from the Roku site and waited for my prize to come. From unboxing until full installation was about 10 minutes and that was me dragging my feet. Off I was to many free streaming channels and the channels/apps have grown tremendously since that time. Many years have passed and tech has come a long way since that first purchase, however, Roku has remained current with the times and is still my pick. 10 or so years later I wouldn't purchase any other device. I've purchased set top, streaming sticks for myself as well as gifts for others. Always could count on excellent customer care. Very reasonably priced and overall my best pick if your cutting the cord. While Roku is completely free one is able to purchase any premium channels of choice as well as streaming channels replacing the evil cable company. It should be noted that you are in control of all of your streaming channels via the Roku site whether it be cancelling or adding. Overall the Roku site and their products are as stated and even a non tech savvy individual should have no problems.

Do not Buy
November 25, 2020

Do not buy any Smart TV especially one that has Roku app. Their site is down, their customer service sucks, they refuse to even help to set up your TV or even to plug in your four digit code. This is what happens when apps such as HULU wants you to reset your TV. I have a Roku Stick and it sucks, sucks sucks.

Roku stick
November 21, 2020

We've been using their streaming stick and seems to be ok what I don't like about this is it it keeps charging us for Hulu subscription even though we didn't subscribe to it and when try to watch on Hulu it tells us that we are not subscribe. The worst part is if you call their customer service number they just refer you to email them. So you go back and forth emailing their representatives who I think are dumb and doesn't really help you much.

I have been trying to cancel a CBS purchase made through my roku TV for 3 months. I am unemployed due to covid and realized I was being charged for this still. I tried calling them, and the automated line says they are not accepting calls due to covid. I tried customer support online. The description of how to cancel was ridiculously confusing. I tried countless times hitting cancel on the TV, and it would just redirect me. I assumed that it was cancelled and each time still charged. Finally got someone on chat today. I was able to cancel and asked for a refund for this recent charge as I was unemployed and wasn't using the service thinking it was already cancelled. She informed me there are no refunds. I even contacted CBS, and since it was purchased through ROKU I had to go through them. SCAM. Taking advantage of people during a pandemic. They should both be ashamed. Lesson learned. No more purchases and removing my card info

Offensive screensaver
November 2, 2020

I've been a Roku customer for quite some time I was completely satisfied until I turned on my television today only to see an American flag. Due to our current president and American flag stands for the Trump supporters. The Trump screensavers that you all are advertising are very offensive. I am an African-American woman and also a Democrat. It's inappropriate to express whom it is that you are associated with as far as politics go. I will never spend another dollar on any of your products because it is obvious that you support the Trump campaign. BLACK LIVES MATTER! I will INFORM the Democratic Party as well as every Black Or Hispanic American that Roku only supports Trump. I hope that Stephen Kay the vice president of Roku can see how inappropriate this is. The black and brown communities are the ones purchasing this television mainly because they're sold at a very cheap rate. Yet here you are supporting the campaign of someone who's never bought a Roku TV. Stop and think about who your target audience is before you decide to Express your POLITICAL views

Do not shop this company
October 12, 2020

Roku tv advertised they DO NOT charge for activation. HOWEVER the representatives 2 different ones tell you different. They would not activate my tv even though on the tvs activation page it states that they do not charge for it. They also told me even though I pay for cable and have Netflix, Hulu and Disney plus that i would have to pay for their services for these as well. Consumers this company knowingly and maliciously scams thousands of people out of their hard earned money. Do not be their next victim.

UPSET and not HAPPY
October 12, 2020

I purchased a 70" TV from Roku and got it home and it literally measured 61". You talk about not happy and I have a lot of Roku merchandise and I will not use them anymore because you have lied about dimensions I would like to know how you all could be so off. And not only that this TV cuts on and off in the middle of you watching TV.

Getting charged for a trial
September 30, 2020

Why is that my wife and I started the FREE 7 day trial for Fubo tv and we got charged the full price of $86 through Roku! I contacted Fubo tv and they stated that then have no control over this and Roku is the one who authorized this charge. We emailed Roku and asked why are we getting charged for a trial? Roku then said, we don't offer a free 7 day subscription for Fubo tv. So why are you advertising it? I've done some research and it seems like you've been doing this for a while to multiple people. I want my refund! I will go on every review page I can find until I get my money back! I will NEVER EVER BUY A ROKU again!

Roku is worth the basic WiFi TV service you want. There are many channel choices. You can find anything you might seek via an app. The main stations are available like Netflix, CNN, Fox, CBS, ESPN, NatGeo, movies, and some oddball stuff (xxx).
But in NY no MSG, YES or SNY is big downfall.
It is pretty simple to connect and use including smart phone app.

Roku Tv
February 23, 2020

I bought a ROKU tv about a year and half ago, and all of sudden half of channels that I have downloaded stopped working and it has been about 5 months that this has been going on, contacted ROKU multiple times and get the same response "there is nothing we can do, contact the channel provider it is on roku" I'm so confused as to why your customers have to contact a channel provider that ROKU signed an agreement with to provide these channels and now that it isn't working and multiple people have complained(google search it) they have still done nothing about it. ROKU advertised all of these great channels and great services but it's false i barely can use it I just use my regular cable since it doesn't work. ROKU does not see a problem with it all, they do not care about their customers or the false advertising. I AM TELLING YOU DO NOT BUY IT! You will be wasting your money, after a year it will seem like you just have a regular tv nothing new nothing major. I've seen so many people say the same thing. It's just a way for them to keep getting money. I refuse to EVER buy from them again.

Roku Canada
January 12, 2020

My wife and I decided to get in on a great boxing day sale at Costco, we have a Samsung smart tv that we are very happy with from Costco. Now thinking that it would be the same set up as our current tv, we brought the tv home to setup, only to be informed that we have to pay to activate... this wasn't a terrible idea, as we thought it would be a quality service... we were wrong. I would say 75% of the channels only work in the US, and the Roku channel wasn't working. We called multiple times to report problems, and were told each time it was being worked on. The issue was never fixed... we returned both units to Costco. When we called to have our money refunded, they told us it was non refundable... after a heated conversation, they tried to blame us for not reporting the issue. Eventually they refunded our money. Dont buy a roku tv, as all other tv's dont have hidden fees for their service

Probably my worst experience in a very long time with a company. Wont ever buy a roku tv... stick to the big providers..

I purchased my 3800 in JAN 19 at Walmart. It was easy to install and setup. It worked perfectly until MAY 19 when the REMOTE stopped working consistently. When I turned on TV the remote would not make the ROKU stick respond, I would have to go thru pairing or put the remote inches from the stick. When I reported the problem to tech support they said a cable extender would fix the problem and mailed one to me. It's only about 4 inches long so I did not think this would solve any issues but I installed it anyway and as I expected it did no good. When I reported this to tech support they said I needed a new remote and mailed me one. When I received it I put in new battery's and paired it up but got the same results. When I contacted tech support they told me to contact the cable company and have them put router on channel 161 and turn off the AUTO CHANNEL SELCT option and this would fix the problem. At this point I have lost confidence in there support staff so I did not change the router because I thought this may cause other problems to my WIFI support so I deal with the problem by using the ROKU app on my phone when the remote will not control the TV. It is interment, if its working and you turn off the TV for a short period It may not work when you turn it back on. ROKU tells me it is WIFI interference from the SPECTRUM router that interferes with the remote because it uses WIFI to communicate with the ROKU stick.

I enjoy all four of my ROKU devices and TV's but they get a big ZERO when it comes to customer service and support... you cannot reach anyone who speaks English well or understands it... the online support options are useless for existing customers and their issues as they only have support for setting up your ROKU not fixing problems when trying to buy channels or losing channels. They need to get more professional if they want this company to grow.
