So, quite honestly, I was all ready to tell people that I liked Hello Fresh. I mean, is it REALLY their fault that my preteen son didn't enjoy most of what they sent? No, surely not! However, I am not a firm believer that this company is poorly run and has inept, RUDE, customer service.
I cancelled my subscription the week of July 4th because, as stated above, my son did not enjoy the food. On 7/13, overnight, my account was charged $69. UGH! I called customer service to sort out the mix up. I was assured, by Saneeta, that they would fix this for me and she apologized for the error in charging. I was satisfied and agreed to wait for my refund to hit.
Fast forward to 7/20... NO refund yet. NO call. NO nothing. I contact Hello Fresh and speak to Samantha who tells me Jesse (the supervisor) will call me. Jesse never calls. Samantha calls back and says they will not refund my $69, but they can "meet me half way" and give me half the money OR they can give me another box. WHAT?! NO! NO WAY! Give me my money!
I call back and ask for Jesse. I am livid by now. Jesse tells me the same thing Samantha did. I told Jesse I will now give them poor reviews on EVERY site and I will get my money back through my wonderful bank. Now, the charges in the process of being reversed and I am making good on telling everyone about my bad experience.
STAY AWAY from these people. They are scam artists and will NOT honor cancellations or refunds! Ridiculous!
Avoid if you want to try before you commit
You commit to a second box before you've tried your initial free one... Really, really poor as they blame this on having to order the good for your second box before you try your first. They will not prompt you to choose your meals for your second box. So I've got to pay for a box of meals without selecting or see what I'm getting!
The FREE trail is structured purposefully to catch you out it would seem. I actually got an email today that says they are changing their email structure so you get this the Sunday before your Wednesday cut off. So evidence here they haven't been doing enough to make the process clear- they should therefore honour refunding people who felt enough communication was not made before this new email schedule roll out. Looking at reviews would seem this change is due to Frequent dissatisfaction.
Jamie Oliver should be wary of promoting this as there are a fair amount of disgruntled users. Worth also mentioning although they claim to adhere to the 14 day cooling not off period (which made me feel safer about trying it out), they then counter this by saying it's not applicable to fresh goods...! So no kind of buyer protection here.
My sister 'invited' me 3 years ago to join this service - after multiple attempts to unsubscribe via direct chats with agents (including snotty attitudes), I was finally removed from their mailing lists - only took a month. Then when I thought I was free, 3 years later I receive an invite saying my sister sent me the invite - which she said she did not do... And being my sister, well, ya, I believe her! What kind of deceptive marketing practice are these? I will NEVER subsribe to this service!
I RECEIVED A COUPON ($50 OFF FIRST 2 BOXES). I RECEIVED 25 OFF MY FIRST BOX CHARGE BUT WAS CHARGED FULL PRICE FOR MY SECOND BOX. I HAVE ATTEMPTED CALLING 3 TIMES AND HAVE BEEN DC 3 TIMES. I WENT ON-LINE TO CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION AND GOT THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE.
We've stepped out for a bit

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY WITH THIS SITE. HALF OF THE FOOD IS EDIBLE, THE OTHER HALF IS LESS THAN FRESH. NOT WORTH THE PROBLEMS OF BEING CHARGED FOR THE SERVICE..
I received a promotion code of Hello Fresh from Amazon and I used it one time. I ended up by having a weekly subscription which I did not choose myself. I had to call customer service and asked them to cancel whatever was planned and not use my CC details for anything at all. Now, I will wait and see.
Very disappointed that some online services like this one keep people's data and use them without their approval! CRAZY!
I received 3 meals for 2 as a gift. I was not given any option online to choose the meals so I guess they assume you do not have any allergies or aversions to anything. The food arrived fresh (with plenty of ice left in the packs) and the recipes are easy to follow, but then it was very basic meals I received (roast pork & potatoes, steak salad, chicken with grain, tomatoes & mozzarella). You have to supply your own olive oil, salt & pepper. The meats were apportioned at 6 ounces per person - not enough for my husband or anyone who has a physical job or is in athletics. Definitely lacking in veggies. I had to augment every meal with more vegetables. The pork meal only supplied one tiny zucchini. The steak salad had greens, one bell pepper and two tiny scallions - sad. I will not be using this service again. I am better at planning more complex recipes/meals for less $.
First off they sent me a $30.00 however, you have to actually sign up to view the food. After viewing their website I decided to cancel/suspend the account.
They billed me and shipped food to me anyway! And its food that I will not eat!
Their customer service had the attitude of "sounds like a personal problem to me"
I wished I could post a picture of the pepper they sent it was almost rotten!
Got my first box of 3 dinners with the $40 off for the month of April so it was 29.00 for the 3 meals. I was very pleased and so was my husband. We had a sausage and peppers sandwich the side was asparagus! Fresh ingredients, good quality meat the sausage was above and beyond what I wld usually get. A fabulous Italian seasoning made it extra good. It's a treat to have someone else's idea for dinner especially when it is such quality. Very easy to make all on a baking sheet in the oven. I say hell yeah... Adding to this review we had the other two meals out of our 3 they were not so great Beef Bolognese & parm crusted chicken, although they send good meat, grass feed beef and natural chicken, they were just very average and I wld not look to have them again.
I am shocked to see so many bad reviews. My husband and I are amazed at the quality of food!
Just a bit of our history, I have been responsible for meals for 42 years, and after our kids flew the nest I have struggled to cook for two with no waste. I finally threw up the white flag as I was throwing away half of what I spent a week. I also just never could come up with delicious recipes for two. I started trying different plans. What a nightmare of flavorless food I have found before stumbling on to HelloFresh!
I was not thrilled with having to actually prepare it, after trying various heat and eat meals I learned a little effort makes the difference. The half hour cooking meals usually take me 40 minutes but now I appreciate this option as there is no comparison!
First thing I noticed is the quality of fresh fruit and veggies you receive. You will not find this quality anywhere the public can buy because I shop for quality everywhere and never find anything similar. The recipes are to die for... scrumptious, fresh food that is just like eating in high end restaurants at a much lower cost. The no waste feature of their plan has saved me at least $100 a week, not to mention the time and headache of trying to think of "what to cook for dinner tonight" which was the first thing that popped in my head upon awakening every morning. I am also learning new recipes and the simplicity of just cooking fresh, wholesome, simple foods that are full of flavor! Each meal has been so well balanced my hubby and I do not snack all night like we use to trying to satisfy our hunger or taste buds. The proportions are generous, we never leave the table unsatisfied! I look forward to dinner now where it use to be the biggest dread of my day! Thank you Hello Fresh for your phenomenal meals and plans that fit our budgets! You have customers for life as I can not imagine not having this amazing service! Thank you!
I am appalled that they require MY credit card to redeem a gift card. Their "customer service" person suggested I tell the person who gave it to me and they would get a refund. REALLY? It was a generous gift in the first place, and now I am going to insult the giver because of a company's bad policy?
There are too many alternatives out there. This one is not nice to deal with.
Twice this happened! Got a email to sign back up for half off 1st box. A 'we miss you ' promo. Says all you have to do us reactivate to and half off it auto applied. Both times I was charged full price. 1st time they asked for a copy of the marketing email whigh luckily i didn't delete, it was just a regular marketing email. 2nd time they emailed me and said instead of refunding me, they'll give me a credit for the $34.50. So first they're trying to scam you hoping u don't notice the full charge. Then when you notice they try to make it inconvenient or not possible to get the refund. A different customer may accept the credit and they win there. Not me. Plus their food is the worst of all of them. Blue apron is 10x better.
I have been using hello fresh for 4 weeks now and I am dissatisfied the choices of vegetables are very poor broccoli spinach loads of spinach green beans and that's it hardly any other veg
Plenty of rice risotto dishes.
Last weeks choices have been the worst so far cheese and tomato on I slice of flaky pastry with lettuce leaves in the middle of winter! For this reason I am cancelling my subscription meat only chicken wings and cheap small chicken and turkey breasts quality gone down hill...
Charged twice for one delivery and when I requested a refund, I was told that it was too late for a refund because the order had been processed. It was ONE order that I was charged twice for. Their only offer: a credit for another week's delivery. I explained that I just wanted to cancel and receive a refund, but they would not do this. It was their mistake. Now I am out $69. Not a great deal of money, but their customer service to rectify THEIR mistake is horrid. Avoid HelloFresh.
I have had 6 meals from Hello Fresh so far and every one was delicious! It takes me a little longer to complete the meals than their estimated time, but I'm going to try cutting up the veggies all at once for the week's meals to cut down on prep time. Many times, there are veggies left over after my husband and I are full and even after feeding a little to our toddler.
This service is great if you like veggies (and don't mind smaller meat portions than what you'd get at a restaurant, but still big enough) including carrots, bell peppers, green beans, yukon potatoes, parsnips, sweet potatoes/yams, and arugula... which seem to be prevalent in the recipes.
I just had a tiny bit of mold on one of the garlic cloves, but no problems other than that. I do wish there were less carrots & parsnips and more broccoli or something else green. The meals come to $11.50 each for our plan... 3 meals/week for two people totaling $69 (includes shipping). It does sound like a lot, but it helps us eat healthier food and eliminates at least one grocery store trip a month, so I don't mind paying a little more for the benefits.
Plenty of vendors like Hello Fresh out there that allow you to deactivate your membership without the cumbersome task of pausing each meal every week. To be honest, I might have tried Hello Fresh again in the future had they given that option. All my pausing for 2016 was undone with the year change, so bad coding is an issue all over this side (or was it intentional?).
The food is subpar for $10 a head. Meat isn't ever packaged correctly, and I had steak arrive that was brown around the edges. Bleh! The meats will leak blood and other goo throughout the box, which is why I assume they started white boxing all other meal ingredients.
Speaking of ingredients, I dare you to find me an herb that they mail that hasn't been crushed and isn't wilted and worthless in many dishes. The product they send out should be inspected by a government entity, TBH.
Again, I'm a subscriber to many other meal delivery vendors and Hello Fresh is by far the WORST.
Do your research first, and remember if you do sign up and decide to cancel at any point Hello Fresh keeps the $69 signup fee and makes you pay that again for re-subscribing. Hello Fresh is the ONLY one that does this. They also make the process of canceling incredibly hard, so be prepared for that.
(PS- Customer service is F+ to match their food quality and they will continue to harass you with newsletters till the end of time. You have been warned!)
I ended up getting my box. I thought that they would at least send good food. They should file for a DBA as Back of your pantry.
I ordered the veggie box and received 15 carrots in sum. For the curry box they only sent a tablespoon of curry and a can of coconut milk, pack of jasmine rice, acorn squash, tiny brown onion, soy sauce?, a half rotting ginger, parsley?, and 3 carrots. I have question marks after some ingredients because they don't make sense. I didn't even get any recipes. Maybe my standards are high, but I firmly believe that Hellofresh offers bad service. You're paying for shipping, packaging, and overhead. I guarantee that the one curry box cost less than $5. Each box looked like it was less than $55.
I'll go on but I made my point above. The mac and cheese pack came with with a full pack of carrots?, shells, 2 small packs of cheddar cheese, and 3 cartons of 4oz milk. No recipe. My minestrone soup box came with half bunch of kale, a small brown onion, box of canellini beans, 5 carrots, and 2 cloves of garlic. Where's my base? Yea. I am not doing this again.
The food is good and the prices are fair. We order the two person meals and have had plenty when there are three of us home or have enough left-over for one lunch. I have had missing ingredients and have received a credit for my next order. I have forgotten to change or cancel my order on the right day and have had no problem getting it taken care of promptly. Customers service has always been prompt, friendly and accommodating. My only complaints - A) sometimes they don't have 3 of the 5 meal choices that appeal to us and B) I wish they would offer a choice on the starch. I sometimes end up using my own lovely white rice and white potatoes rather than brown (and other dark colors) rice, quinoa, sweet potatoes, etc. provided.
I have used HelloFresh for several months and we were happy. But there are things you need to do to select meals and their website is only compatible with Google Chrome. Not Internet Explorer or Safari. So you get meals you don't want.
Customer service didn't care at all that I couldn't SEE the things I need. Said, "We are only compatible with GoogleChrome. Sorry." You'd think they'd want my business more.
Really wish I would have stayed away. Just google them and see they do this all the time. You cancel, they sneak it into your cancellation email that they will still charge you and then you are screwed and can't get a refund. Worst customer service of my life.
Hello fresh delivers weekly items to make dinner. It cost $69/week. I was sent a free box (trial) and I loved it. 3 meals for 2, can sometimes feed 3-4 people. The ingredients were fresh, cute packaging (jars/supplies), and good insulation/ice packages (which we reuse for coolers). Honestly, it a little pricey, but it breaks down to about $11 a meal/person + prep/cooking time. You can select your deliver times/days.
Good-great variety of food I would never think to make. Harissa lamb meatballs in a yogurt sauce, shrimp po boys, paella, etc... Very delicious and filling.
Bad- I've received a box with bad shrimp, and rotten grapes, celery, chicken, salad.
Also a bit pricey but at the same time, kind of worth it if you are trying to try new healthy portioned foods.
You can use my code if you'd like $20 off of your first box! V6GJRK
Answer: I signed up and realised its a scam - your first order is only able to be placed 2 weeks away, meaning they get your money even if you use a coupon... and from other reviews they won't let you cancel. I just registered a voucher, saw the dates and tried to cancel... and can't - there is no "cancel" on their website
Answer: You will still have to pay for delivery and such because this company says those things cannot be covered by a gift card. Beware signing up, because they will subscribe you as soon as you enter credit card information. It is in their Terms and Conditions at the beginning of the process.
Answer: You're automatically on auto ship…any week you don't overtly cancel will get sent out and you'll get charged.
Answer: Nor really. They will want to give you a partial refund of the single ingredient you found to be of poor quality... and that's if you want to take the time to navigate the website to find out how to do it. Their website is totally designed to make customer service difficult.
Delicious, pre-measured ingredients and simple, chef-made recipes that we deliver to your doorstep every week. Extra flexible for your busy lifestyle.
