The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, particularly concerning its subscription model and customer service. Many users report unauthorized charges, difficulties in canceling subscriptions, and a lack of responsive support, leading to perceptions of deceptive practices. While some customers acknowledge the potential value of the service for avid readers, these positives are overshadowed by frustrations with the platform's functionality and the quality of customer interactions. Overall, the feedback indicates a pressing need for improved communication and more transparent billing practices to restore customer trust.

Two days after I signed up, all the books I had saved became unavailable. I listened to five books in a two day span, each book had an approximate duration of four hours. Now those books are only available to me after the next billing date. So for the next 28 days I'm suppose to read stuff I'm not interested in, or that I've read before. Almost every title I search for is available on 06-16-2023. I signed up on 05-16-2023, all books I search for became unavailable on 05-18-23.
I have tried multiple times to cancel my account. They keep charging my card regardless of the fact that I clearly do not use their service. I used it once in my free trial late last year. It is now may and they keep charging me. Despite trying to cancel multiple times. The most recent communication was three days ago when they promised to cancel and refund me but when i look at my account it says they plan to charge me again in June. Terrible business model and very shady in my opinion that it is so hard to cancel. Highly not recommended
Hi Lou, we're so sorry for any inconvenience or frustration this might have caused you! Since we cannot bill a canceled subscription, it does seem the charges are coming from unsuccessful cancellation, but we can definitely assist with this. Please reach out to us through this link http://bit.ly/social-support-help and update your review with the ticket # that you receive so we can follow up with you right away. Thank you! -MW
My wife pays this credit card bill and thought Scribd was something I used for my work so she kept paying monthly fees for at least two years. It is something I have never used or accessed. Tried to cancel my account but one does not apparently exist. I requested a cancelation over a week ago and they have now charged me another month. I found a "no-reply" email from "Slideshare" in October 2020 thanking me for being a "LinkedIn and SlideShare" member and informing me that scribd was going to take over Slideshare business on December 1. I have never heard of Slideshare either. I have never given LinkedIn my credit card number.
UPDATE 5/17/2023
Their customer support did reach out to me.
My daughter used their service about 3 years ago when she was in high school and the account I was getting billed for is under her email. We will hopefully get this resolved now.

I was lured into their online site to download a pdf. However I tried to cancel multiple times afterwards as I didn't find anything else of value. Close to impossible to cancel, and after months of trying to cancel I'm not yet sure if off the hook. Stay away!
Hello Jakob, Sorry to hear about the difficulty you had canceling your account. I would like to confirm the cancellation and address any questions you may have. Please submit a ticket through this link and your request will be escalated straight to my inbox: bit.ly/social-support-help
Thanks! -LC
This company is a total scam. I never signed up to this business, never purchased anything from them and never had an account with them. They started taking £9.99 a month from my account in Aug 2021 (increasing to £10.99 a month in April 2022). I had no way of cancelling these payments as I did not have an account with them and therefore could not log in to their website. The only interaction I have ever had with this company is in April 2012 when I read something using Scribd on Facebook and they emailed me. This was over nine years before they then started taking money from me. TOTAL scam.
Hello Laura, I am happy to help address any charges from Scribd you have received. If you have an open support ticket please let me know the ticket number. If not please submit a ticket through this link and your request will be escalated straight to my inbox: bit.ly/social-support-help
Thanks! -LC
The online company called SCRIBD took my email address, open an account on their website and used my email address to bill PAYPAL for 11.99 that was never authorized. Seriously have some nerve to do something like this. Note the account they opened, my name is missing.
Hello Nel, I am very sorry to hear you received unexpected charges from Scribd! I would like to help explain the charges and make sure you are not charged again. If you have not already submitted a support ticket please submit a ticket through this link and your request will be escalated straight to my inbox: bit.ly/social-support-help
Thanks! -LC
Deceptive trade practices provide for annual renewal at then-current rate. No way to cancel once the plan automatically renews for 365 days at whatever rate Scribd extorts —nearly 30 percent for me. AI responds to disputes in an endless loop that never gets a human response. Phone customer service unavailable.
Hello Carol, we're so sorry for any frustration this has caused you! We can definitely assist with confirming your subscription is canceled and you aren’t billed further. If you could please create a ticket with us here http://bit.ly/social-support-help and provide the support ticket # that you receive - this will allow us to get you connected with someone who can help with this right away. Thank you! -MW
There are options of a lot of books and other stuff. I didnt liked it because of "the books I was searching for were available the day after my trial has ended so that they could get one more monthly payment"
Hi Petur, we apologize if this has caused any inconvenience for you! Can you please create a new support ticket using this link http://bit.ly/social-support-help? We'd be happy to help provide a thorough explanation as to why you’re experiencing this with your library. Thanks! -MW
Scribd made an account using the information I provided to sirusXM, on March 21,2023. They do this in hopes the can keep charging a little bit over a long period of time.
Hi there, we apologize for any confusion. To confirm, Scribd does not "sign up" or "start subscriptions" for our users without their consent. We also do not have access to your personal or payment information and are not in any way associated with the company SiriusXM. In order for someone to have an active subscription with us, the only way to do so would be for them to sign up when creating an account, or restart/renew their membership from their Account Settings page.
With that being said, we can confirm that the subscription you started on your Scribd account has been canceled successfully and you've been issued a refund for the recent charge. Please allow 3-5 business days for the funds to be credited back to you. Your account and payment information have also been completely deleted from our system. Additionally, all of this information has been confirmed with you in your recent support ticket. If you need additional assistance, please continue to correspond with the agent you're working with via email. Thanks! -VG
Scribd, with it's promise of "unlimited" access to their library of ebooks, audiobooks, and articles etc. ACTUALLY tracks subscribers searches - even ones that do not lead to saving a title, let alone reading or listening to a title - and determines by SEARCHES how to limit the "unlimited" access. I listened to one recently bestselling title, two much older, moderately successful titles, and four "classic" titles (as in, written before 1900), and was then cut off from ANY further audiobook borrows, except for the most ridiculous, tawdry, awful, no-star titles in their cataloge. So, after seven audiobook listens, I was basically CUT OFF. All other titles were labelled as "available soon." Scibd kept careful track of all my searches. So, for example if I entered an author's name, rather than a specific title, ALL the titles by that auther would be added to my limiting list of searches. SO, they punish you for simply searching for titles, and "unlimited" means NOTHING. This service may have some good points, but their shameless LYING and underhandedness cancels it all out.
Hi there, we apologize for any confusion! Libraries rotate individually depending on your reading history. This support article offers more information: https://bit.ly/2PY9v6I or you check out Section 3 of our Subscriber Agreement here: https://bit.ly/2R4PKLa Thanks! -VG
Yes, there's a great choice of books and more unusual titles than you might expect. So I tried the 30 day 'unlimited ' reading trial. I chose a few ebooks, thoroughly enjoyed reading ONE of them, had a quick look at a couple more and after that could not access any of the chosen titles, except the few I'd had a quick peak at. Apparently they'd all suddenly become 'unavailable' at the same time until, you guessed it, a date one day beyond the time when I'd have to pay. A lame notification explained that this was unfortunate but unavoidable because of publishers etc etc A$13.99 a month is a lot in times of financial struggle AND I don't get to keep ANY of my downloaded books if I discontinue the subscription! I can get by using Amazon ( which I philosophically despise with a passion and was hoping to get rid of and replace with Scribd) without paying A$13+ per month for ebooks.
At the very least the promise of "unlimited" reading on the free trial is false advertising, at worst it's a SCAM!
Some of the Ebooks are in tiny font and cannot be enlarged. The Ebooks where print can be enlarged do not go big enough for me to read without glasses, which is why I need to enlarge the font in the first place.
Look for free books on Amazon, the Internet Archive and the Gutenberg Press and AVOID Scribd!

Kept uploading files (which they would save) but wouldnt let me download any files in return. Thought it hadn't uploaded properly, but when I tried to upload them again to download a book, they wouldnt accept it as I had already uploaded it for them, but still wouldnt let me download a single thing. Awful.

Please reach out to us at bit.ly/social-support-help and a member of our support team will gladly look into this for you to see what caused that download issue. Thanks! -MW

They will charge you years after cancelling your subscription. I have to cancel my cards so they wouldn't continue to charge me. They should be sued for stealing people's money. It's fraudulent. It's a scam.

Scribd continues to charge my credit card and emailing their customer service to get a response takes weeks. Still trying to get it canceled because they take weeks to even respond. Working with my credit card to dispute the charges since they refuse to respond.

I tried to download a document, and it said that I need to upload 5 documents to be able to download the one I wanted. After uploading all five, it jumped to another web which shows not working. I went back and then it said to upload 3 documents. I did so and the same thing happened again. Then when I went back again it said to upload 1 document... Well, then I realized that I was scammed. This web got all the doc I uploaded and I gained nothing. Well well well... Now I just want to know how to report it :)
We're sorry for the trouble. Our team is currently investigating a known issue that our users are facing surrounding upload/download issues. Please use this link to create your ticket so we can connect you with our support team for further assistance: http://bit.ly/social-support-help

I have a monthly charge to my credit card. When I log into Scribd, though, I'm being told that I don't have an account with them and they don't have any payment information for me...then how is my card being charged?
Thank you for informing us! It sounds like you may have a duplicate account, one subscribed and one that is not. That said, no worries! Our support team can help. I have been getting charged since 2021! I have tried the customer service email, I only receive automated responses which does not help me. They have charged hundreds of dollars and I have never accessed their service once! I need to cancel this immediately, the email address associated with my account, for some reason is not working, so I cannot login! I need to speak to a customer service rep directly for assistance, and this is impossible with their automated system! Beware, they make it impossible for assistance, and to cancel!
