Swappa generally enjoys a positive reputation for offering a reliable platform for buying and selling used electronics, with many users appreciating the thorough vetting of devices and the ease of transactions. However, significant concerns arise regarding customer service, particularly in response times and support during disputes, with numerous customers expressing frustration over unhelpful interactions and unresolved issues. Additionally, complaints about payment processing and discrepancies in product conditions highlight a need for improved communication and accountability. Overall, while many customers report satisfaction, the negative experiences suggest a critical need for enhanced customer support and service transparency.

I was told I'd won a €500,000 EU innovation grant and needed to pay €45,000 in fees and taxes to release it. RetrieveXpro traced the bank transfer to a mule account in another EU country. They worked with Europol's financial crime unit to freeze the account, leading to a 70% recovery (€31,500). The process was slow due to cross-border bureaucracy, but their international network was vital.

I honestly don't even know where to start. What I'm going through with Swappa is one of the worst online shopping experiences I've ever had. On October 6,2025, I bought a PlayStation 5 Slim 1TB through their website and paid 459.38 USD with PayPal. The payment went through, but the order never did. The seller disappeared and the transaction just sits in PayPal as pending because Swappa will not cancel or complete it. PayPal confirmed in writing that only Swappa can cancel this transaction, yet Swappa keeps pretending it is not their problem. They keep giving me the same useless replies and taking no responsibility while my money is locked away. This was supposed to be a birthday gift for my son. His birthday is on October 15,2025, and this was all the money I had saved for it. Instead of enjoying his gift, I am sitting here begging Swappa to release my own money. They know exactly what is happening, and they simply do not care. Their customer service is cold and unhelpful. They refuse to step in even when shown PayPal's confirmation that they are the only ones who can cancel it. I have already contacted PayPal, the Missouri Attorney General, the FTC and law enforcement because at this point it feels like I have been robbed. Swappa's behavior is beyond unprofessional. It is dishonest and heartless. Buyers need to be warned. If anything goes wrong on this site you will be completely on your own. They will not help you, they will not care, and they will hold your money hostage until the transaction expires. I never thought I would have to write something like this, but people need to know the truth about how Swappa treats its customers.
Seller was available and kind.
Items are as described.
Delivery was earlier than expected and buying process was smooth.
I have been a long-time fan of this site. I consistently refer people when they are looking for a new phone. Each phone I have purchased has been high quality and a great value. In fact, the last phone I purchased for myself lasted over 10 years.
Swappa is terrible. If there is any dispute they take no responsibility and instead make you use Paypal to resolve disputes. Their condition grading is up to the seller. This left me a phone supposedly in 'MINT' condition with a badly scratched screen. I offered to have swappa judge the condition. They refused. A real crap shoot. I only gave them 2 stars as I did have a few transactions that went smoothly. This not because of swappa but with honest sellers. WATCH OUT.
I bought a tablet but the seller sent the wrong model. I contacted them and they refused to accept the return. Swappa's support tried to mediate but i still got stuck with a device I didn't want. I expected better buyer protection from a platform that claims to be secure.
Selling my phone on swappa was a hassle. I had to wait a long time for the verification process to go through and even after it was approved it took forever to get an offer. The service fees were higher than expected and i ended up losing money compared to selling it elsewhere. Not happy with this site
Swappa sounded like a great platform but experience was disappointing. The phone i bought had a faulty camera and it was clear the seller didn't properly test it. Getting a response from customer service took forever and they didn't offer much help. I ended up stuck with a device that didn't work.
I attempted to sell a phone on Swappa. All went smoothly, but two days later after I lowered the price on my listing, I received an email from Swappa stating that my login address was different from my home address. Ignoring the creepiness of this, I responded that I had been home all morning. I received no response, but an hour later I received an email stating that I would need to resubmit all photos. After asking what the point of this was, I received another email from "Heather S." questioning why I had lowered the price.
Rather than continue to be treated as a potential criminal, I simply removed the ad and traded it in with Apple's trade in program. I likely received $100 less but it was hassle free. I'd also recommend anyone looking to purchase a used phone to consider Apple's certified program. Apple provides a warranty and you'll avoid potential third-party parts contained in the refurbished phones being sold by corporate resellers on Swappa.
Swappa is awesome for buying and selling used electronics. You can trust them because they thoroughly check all the devices. Their customer support is super responsive and makes everything easy. If you're looking for gently used electronics, Swappa is the way to go.
Do not buy here, you are likely to lose your money completely or waste hours and weeks trying to get it back. There is no recourse for a scam seller.
Terrible service. Paid for feature and the. They removed it because I lowered the price. Company is a scam. Not only that. They never replied to my emails but replied to this review. Shady. Even the reply is untrue. They charged for feature and it's not active after their employees approved the ad. Had to dispute the charges
Hello, SiteJabber community,
I find myself compelled to share a frustrating experience with SWAPPA, an online marketplace that I once trusted for purchasing electronics. This ordeal has left me feeling disregarded and compelled me to question the integrity and customer service of SWAPPA.
My journey began when my original SWAPPA account was abruptly closed without any clear justification. Seeking to resolve this issue and continue my activities, I created a new account, linked it to my PayPal (which is verified), and resumed browsing phones, contemplating my next purchase. However, before I could make any purchase, SWAPPA inexplicably closed my new account as well, leaving a terse message: "Your account is inactive."
In an attempt to understand the reason behind these closures and seek a resolution, I reached out to SWAPPA multiple times through emails and even tried to contact them via Instagram. My efforts were met with silence; not a single response was received, nor did they acknowledge my attempts to communicate. This lack of response raises significant concerns about what would have happened if I had placed an order and my account was closed in a similar fashion. Would I have been left out in the cold, with no recourse or way to receive the product I paid for?
This experience has been eye-opening and deeply disappointing. A platform that operates in the realm of online sales must uphold a standard of communication and respect towards its users. The complete disregard for customer service and the opaque nature of the account management process at SWAPPA is alarming.
I'm sharing this story as a caution to others who might consider using SWAPPA for their electronics purchases. It's crucial to be aware of the potential issues you might face, including unjust account closures and a startling lack of communication from the company. A marketplace that fails to engage with and respect its customers raises serious questions about its reliability and trustworthiness.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience. I hope it serves as a warning and contributes to a broader conversation about consumer rights and the accountability of online marketplaces.
Many phones are sold locked and you will not see it when doing an IMEI search. Their canned response if a problem = contact PayPal or credit company. The locked phones issue widely prevails and Swappa ignores it. Don't buy or sell here.
Swappa is a game-changing website that allows you to find the perfect phone, tablet, computer, game system, etc. All for a fraction of any price out on the market! Sellers are simple and straight forward and most importantly, verified! I've bought 5 iPhones for me and my fam and haven't regretted a single second! Totally fast and efficient and worth checking out!
Just bought a macbook air here for a great price, have bought phones and such on the site before and it has always been great.
I have bought and sold several iPhones and Apple Watches for myself and family on Swappa over the years. It's sooo easy to use, and when buying I like how many filtering and sorting options they have so you can find the exact device you want at the price you want.
Way less hassle than FB Marketplace because you have a wider selection and don't have to set aside time to meet in person.
When selling, I get way more for my old devices than when doing trade-in.
Twice in a row, I bought high dollar phones that turned out to be different than described. The staff has an attitude problem too. I closed my account today and never want to buy anything from anyone on there again.
Sold laptop on this site. The pay system Swappa uses is PayPal. PayPal refuses to transfer my funds to my bank. Swappa's reply was - "Swappa can't help you".
All they care about is getting their cut. After that, they will not help you get paid.
I purchased a Iphone 14 Pro Max which cost me $900+ from a month ago and the seller shipped the item but it never arrived to my address. I reported it to Swappa to resolve this matter but they choose to not hold the seller accountable, I went to USPS and they confirmed the item was not shipped properly from the seller and the seller never used a label but written on the package instead.
I went ahead and opened a dispute against the seller and I communicated to swappa and they stop responding to me but once the seller submits a message they would respond. Trust and believe I would never spend a dollar on this $#*! of a company again.
I rather purchase from reputable businesses even if it cost more to get my item purchased.
I strongly recommend to not use this company but if you choose so, remember you have been warned!

Answer: Hi Peggy. If you receive a device that is not as advertised then you can return it for a refund. Our policy is that simple. Swappa staff works hard to prevent problems from happening, and PayPal has extensive buyer protections in case they do. Buy with confidence. Thanks for using Swappa.
Answer: Hi Alfred, Swappa requires all users to provide the ESN number for each device when creating a listing as a verification step. For more questions, please email our support team - help@swappa.com Thanks!
Answer: Very safe, I've bought and sold over 40 phones using Swappa and have only had one problem... When that happened both Swappa and PayPal had my back.
Answer: Yes, you should remove and keep your SIM card when you sell your used phone. SIM cards are tied to your account, so are not transferable. More information and why in our FAQ: https://swappa.com/faq/sell/sim_card_included
Answer: Because they are scammers and a holes. They can't be bothered with you. Awful site. Use eBay instead.
Answer: Swappa guarantees it which goes above and beyond paypal. They are running IMEI checks and they do a great job. It's on you when you receive your phone to go through the phone check list to make sure it's good, checking cameras, microphones wfi, bluetooth, water damage check, things like that. Its really worry free buying.
Answer: Contact Swappa support. If an item is not as described by seller, the buyer is entitle to a refund.
Answer: Most sellers don't ship to African countries. This is because they include a reasonable fee on their prices to cover for shipping in the US, I guess shipping to Africa would come at a higher cost and they seem to be avoiding that for whatever reason. However, you can research and register for a freight forwarding company and have your orders shipped to them. In turn, these companies will forward your order to you when they receive it. As I pointed out before, this is something you have to read about and carefully consider. Hope that helps.
