They will put in a 5 star review even if your review is actually 1 star. They advertise that a doctor is in network even if they aren't. Do not trust them.

Intentional Scam?
August 8, 2025

The vast majority of patients never show up, Zocdoc charges $115 for every fake patients, not sure if these fake patients are Zocdoc employees making these fake appointments so that the company cashes out, even if it is not intentional, still extremely fishy business model. The large number of negative reviews tells the story,

Proceed with Caution.
April 23, 2025

I was recently turned on to ZocDoc as a provider. I am an LMFT in the state of California. I take insurance through Headway and once a client finds me on ZocDoc they need to set up a Headway account to proceed. ZocDoc changes the provider $70 for every new client. If the client does not follow through you still get charged. This is a bad policy IMO. I should be paid for a no-show client, but instead I am paying for this client. Terrible policy, I would not go back.

Zocdoc knowingly sends therapists referrals they know the therapist cannot see just to charge them for the referrals, with no benefit to the therapist. They routinely send Medicaid patients to non-Medicaid providers knowing that non-Medicaid providers cannot see Medicaid patients, even out of pocket or out of network. They are aware that these clients cannot be seen by these therapists, but send them anyway and charge the therapist. This is misleading to the patients looking for therapy who end up not being able to be seen by the therapist they are sent to and is completely unethical considering they are knowingly charging therapists for client referrals or as they call it "marketing" that they know cannot result in any revenue for the therapist. DO NOT LIST YOUR PRACTICE WITH THEM!

ZocDoc is a scam!
January 4, 2025

Zocdoc is the only entity in this relationship that makes money. They make money off of providers. They will send the wrong patient to the wrong providers for the wrong service and still charge you for the referrals. They will charge you for a referrals, even when these clients do not establish care with you. When you receive a sticker shock of the bill they sent you they refuse to work with you on a reasonable payment plan. You have two choices, which is to either pay the entire balance in full within two months or to pay it back in three very large installments. You are expected to pay for services you didn't receive. ZocDoc takes zero accountability and will instead dig their heels in on what their company policy is. Do not use them as a referral service unless you want to lose money!

10+ years with My Chart, a patient oriented item. Covers about anything a User/ Patient will need. Moved & now have ZocDoc, provider oriented item. DISAPPOINTED! Zocdoc does little more than find/ book a doctor--use 1 time & bug that you need provider services, full checkup, skin screening, dental, vision check which have nothing directly to do with my case. Don't like the 2 factor authorization to phone to log in--means I have to find my glasses & phone. Zocdoc mainly for providers, minimally for patients.

ZocDoc is running an unscrupulous business and ripping people off. I have never seen anything like it. I contact the merchant multiple times to explain the situation which is very obvious however the deceptive and conniving tactic is so aggressive that they keep changing the goal post and go against their own no charge policy to steal money from people using their platform. Despite all my efforts explaining the obvious to them, they charged $560. The booking were made and canceled whiting 24 hours thus not charged should be made because ZocDoc cancellation policy clearly states that not charge apply if the booking is cancelled whiting 24 hours and that is what those people did cancel whiting hours. I handle the case filling the instructions of your representative. Some of the clients were seeking for services I don't even provide. I wasted a lot of time explaining to ZocDoc. Very disappointed. Will file a lawsuit in the civil court if you insist with the charge.

As a healthcare provider, my experience with Zocdoc has been frustrating and disappointing. While the platform promises to help with patient scheduling and visibility, the reality for providers is far from ideal.

Major Issues:

False Reviews and No Effective Support: One of the most concerning issues with Zocdoc is the inability to get false or misleading reviews removed. Despite providing clear evidence that contradicts a patient's claims, Zocdoc has been unresponsive and unwilling to intervene. This leaves providers vulnerable to damage from malicious or dishonest reviews, which can significantly impact their reputation.

Unresponsive Customer Support: When issues arise, particularly with patient interactions or false reviews, Zocdoc's support is either slow or unhelpful. There is a lack of direct support for providers, and the platform offers no real mechanism to address disputes or concerns effectively. Providers are left to fend for themselves with minimal assistance.

Lack of Transparency and Fairness: The review and moderation process on Zocdoc is opaque and heavily favors patients without consideration for provider context. There is no clear way to dispute unfair reviews, and the process for handling these issues is frustratingly convoluted. As a result, providers are at the mercy of a system that doesn't adequately protect them.

Patient Expectations Are Often Misaligned: Many patients expect immediate responses or overestimate what a provider can do in a limited visit. This can lead to misunderstandings, and Zocdoc offers no support in managing or mitigating these expectations, leaving providers to handle dissatisfied patients on their own.

Conclusion: Zocdoc is a platform that places the burden entirely on providers without offering meaningful support in return. The lack of fair review moderation and poor customer service makes it difficult to recommend this platform to other healthcare professionals. If you're considering joining, be prepared for frustration and minimal assistance when issues arise.

I would not recommend Zocdoc to fellow providers until these issues are addressed. The platform needs a complete overhaul in terms of support, review moderation, and fairness for healthcare professionals.

They are a scam. They confirmed that the doctor was in network and that I would only pay $20. Then they charged me over $400 for the full payment and said that the doctor was not in network. Complete fraud.

Hi Dennis! We are sorry to hear about your experience with this provider. This is not how Zocdoc is intended to work. We understand that receiving an out-of-network bill can be overwhelming, and we would like to investigate this matter for you. Our providers have complete control over the information they list on their profiles, including the insurance plans they indicate as in-network. We expect all information to be accurate and for providers to provide you with an in-network experience if that's what they advertising. Please call us at (855) 962-3621 so that we can gather more information from you and ensure that this issue is resolved appropriately. Billing mistakes and unauthorized direct withdrawals. They politely apologize for the mistake which is in $1000 dollar increments, and nothing is done to correct it. You are required to call again and again. Contacting customer support is both draining and time consuming. Definitely not the greatly successful company as advertised. Very difficult to get in touch with a supervisor and when possible they are uninformed and want to re-invent the wheel.
Their model is not the best as it is delegates no responsibility to the patient for 'no shows' or misrepresentation of the insurance information, and the physician is charged for the booking regardless if they are able to see the patient or not.

This company is absolutely atrocious to work with for providers. I'm a provider & have wasted countless of hours dealing with this terrible company. They charge $70 per referral regardless of if the individual no shows, cancels, never responds to the provider, etc. if a client calls them, they proceed to start sending emails threatening & harassing providers over client REFERRALS that 99% of the time never even showed up for the appointment they requested for but Zocdoc still charged the provider for! Clients are allowed to get away with horrific treatment to providers (no shows, disrespect, false payment information, etc.) & ZocDoc also treats providers like complete crap. They make up random "policies" on a daily basis, never communicate them, then proceed to harass providers about it. They also allow no show clients to leave a review on your page if that client calls them to request it. They call themselves a "marketing" company but they literally try to control the provider's internal policies/procedures by threatening providers with being kicked off the site if they don't run their practice in the way ZocDoc tells them to(for example, they try to control & dictate to providers when they should send video links, when to collect consent forms -- they told us to collect the consent forms AFTER having the first appointment with the client, we told them no. No consent forms, no appointment --, etc.). I could literally go on & on & on. I have now started to put all my efforts in my own practices' marketing, SEO, campaigns, etc. & have started to slowly stop using their services. Providers beware!

Hi there! I'm very sorry to hear about your experience as a provider using Zocdoc. As a provider, you do have a dedicated support team that is here to answer any questions or concerns you may have. We would be happy to ensure your account is set up for success. As you were told during onboarding, the fee per booking is not dependent on the outcome of the appointment; in other words, it is not a charge per successful appointment like you would see for a referral site, it is a charge based on a successful new patient booking generated by our marketing efforts on the Zocdoc site. Additionally, we have a dedicated review team that monitors all reviews being posted to a provider's profile. All reviews on a provider Zocdoc profile are submitted after booking an appointment that the provider indicated the patient attended. If a patient did not show up, please give us a call so we can gather additional information from you and have this review investigated by our dedicated review team. You can read more about our review policy here: https://www.zocdoc.com/about/verifiedreviews/ but at your convenience please give us a call! Our number is 866-962-3621. Hi there Sarah! Thanks so much for providing us with your feedback. Zocdoc is a paid marketing platform for providers, and our pricing was determined by a valuation study conducted by a reputable third party for the types of services Zocdoc is providing to them. This study factored in market rates for similar services, including average no-show rates. Providers also have multiple options to ensure that this platform as beneficial as possible for them. We'd like the chance to connect directly to learn more about your experience. Please give us a call at (866) 962-3621 or email us at Service@Zocdoc.com if you'd like to discuss this any further.

Providers are billed $67 for each appointment made. This is even if the patient does not show or cancels the appointment after 24 hours.
LESS than half our patients from ZOCDOC do not come in and this raises the cost to over $150 per new patient. Insurance reimbursement is less than this and we lose money on each patient we see.

Changes to our service can only be made thru our Account Manager who has no phone number or email address. Messages left to him do not get returned.

CANCEL YOUR ZOCDOC ACCOUNT - you will get home earlier and have more money.

I am the marketing coordinator at a general surgery practice and we used Zocdoc for a short period of time. It was a huge waste of $700 on it. Even if patients do not cancel their appointments, the office still got charged $70 per appointment made. This is outrageous considering it should be helping physicians and surgeons be successful in their practice. If a patient doesn't come in, they don't care and don't take responsibility and charge your practice regardless. They should set up a better system where we can verify the patient did or did not come to the scheduled visit so they can at least return a portion of the $70 back. They were unwilling to help us or understand our issue. It's completely ridiculous and not worth it. It is only built to help patients but not for the doctors who are trying to serve them.

Our clinic has constant issues with ZocDoc no-shows, post-24-hour cancellations, and drug-seeking client behavior. This platform has been a huge waste of our time, energy, and resources. Zocdoc also has a zero-patient-fault policy and a no-refund policy for clinics. Based on these facts and the actual new patient realization rates we're seeing, the $70/booking, especially for small private pay clinics, feels predatory and like false advertising when it comes to ROI. Patients pretty much never cancel on their own within the 24-hour window. They no-show or cancel about 90% of the time in our case. This might not be the case for insurance-based practices, but for small, private pay clinics it's a nightmare. If the patient cancels on their own within 24 hours after booking, no charge. But if you try to call, e-mail, AND text the patient just 20 minutes after booking to confirm they are aware that you are cash pay and not in-network and they don't respond until the next day, or they never respond, you get charged $70 for all that urgency, time, and effort. Same with potential spammers/bots/bad e-mail or phone provided, etc. ZocDoc says we need to be more clear so no there is zero patient confusion when booking. Our private-pay policies and pricing are abundantly clear throughout our profile. The very top of our profile says "SELF-PAY/CASH-PAY, NO INSURANCE." We don't list any insurance as accepted. We registered as self-pay, etc. Notifications pop up informing the patient that we are "out of network," which I think confuses people, and should just say that we don't take insurance at all. The patient also has to sign forms acknowledging our private pay status and our pricing/rates immediately after booking the appointment. None of this helps, which leaves me dumbfounded. Most people on ZocDoc want insurance coverage and they ghost us or cancel when we tell them it's private pay. If they are one of the few who are kind enough to let us know they are canceling, they don't do it on the ZocDoc site that they used 1 time (we have to go in and do it for them), and they certainly don't do it within 24 hours, so we've usually already been charged. ZocDoc knows these statistics and one has to wonder if they are making fake appointments to rack up charges... That would be a GREAT business model. In any case, they are choosing not to fix a broken system simply to make a huge profit. They have no accountability and no skin in the game. We will be redirecting our marketing dollars into our own SEO efforts and using our own EMR booking features going forward. No more BS. If at any point things change for the better, I will gladly reconsider the platform and will update this review.

Hi Keely! Thank you so much for your feedback, we look forward to the opportunity to grow from feedback such as yours! I'm very sorry that it seems your profile preferences and settings are being unintentionally ignored by potential patients. We want your account to be set up for success. Please know, that Zocdoc is a marketing service, and the cost per booking includes an expected level of cancellations or no-shows. Zocdoc is not a referral service, and we are not able to adjust or remove booking fees based on the success of the booking. The fee forgiveness was designed to address patients who quickly change their minds, not to address any fit issues between the patient and provider. Provider's profiles should be optimized in a way that there is no need to clarify additional information within the first 24 hours. With that being said, I want to recommend providing this feedback to our product development team to see if they can implement something for the future when they create new developments and projects. Here is the link if you have any suggestions on how to improve this for providers: https://www.zocdoc.com/about/better-for-providers/

Additionally, please know that there will be an update in the near future where you can block out-of-network/insured patients and only accept self-pay patients on your profile. Right now, this is still in the works so I don't have an update as to when this feature will be live but hopefully soon as this seems it will be an imperative feature for your practice to utilize! If you have any questions, please feel free to give our dedicated Service Team a call at 866-962-3621. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

I signed up for one appointment via Zocdoc. That seems to have been enough to trigger NINE SEPARATE EMAILS (1. Welcome to Zocdoc, 2. Confirm your email, 3. Pending appt, 4. Confirmed appt, 5. Add your insurance [though I did that when I signed up for the appt], 6. Appt reminder, 7. Rate your visit, 8. Schedule your follow-up, and 9. Another rate your visit), as well as THREE TEXTS (1. Appt reminder, 2. Appt details, 3. Rate your visit).

Only "confirmed appt" and "appt reminder" should have been necessary. The clincher: I had to cancel because it turned out the dentist I had chosen wasn't in-network. (Edited to add: I'm lucky the doctor's office was doing their due diligence and called to double check -- looks like lots of others here have showed up and been charged out-of-pocket or found their appointment was never registered by the provider.) I canceled directly through their office. Zocdoc never registered the cancellation and kept sending me emails as if the appointment had gone forward. I have tried to unsubscribe, but they keep coming.

Some of their emails seem keen to market their product to me as a way of finding providers. This seems like kind of an underhanded use of addresses they collect from people who are just trying to sign up for doctors' appointments. I resent getting marketing plugs I did not sign up for and regret ever handing Zocdoc my email and phone number.

I wish more providers allowed you to schedule appointments online, but this is not the answer. Other reviews suggest that there are frequent coordination problems between Zocdoc and providers; I suspect that's because any kind of third-party service that works with thousands of providers will never be able to do the right kinds of checking to get everyone on the same page. Your appointments will be more secure and smoother if you contact your provider's office directly. Next time I'll just call.

Avoid like the plague
October 20, 2023

This business platform has so many issues that will financially hurt a practice.
First off all their platform does not protect the very people that pay it, the practices and doctors. The platform charges REGARDLESS if a patient turns up or not and does not require a patient to give their info or their dental/medical insurance details to book an appointment. This opens practices and doctors to whole smorgasbord of fraudulent bookings. Nothing stopping Zocdoc sale people from scheduling numerous appointments to upbill and make you think you are getting a response, opening yourself to spam bookings at $110 a pop, don't forget when "Mr Smith" and "Mr Jones" book with limited info and no real proof they exist and off course don't turn up YOU STILL PAY!
The entire system is giving zocdoc complete access to your check book. They will never answer the question so if a patient does not turn up do I still pay?...RESPONSE: Well we send the patients to you it's up to our office to make sure you can see them, what is your most common service? Change conversation...Redirect... Are you kidding! Talk about circumventing the question. This is the dodgiest service since GROUPON and YELP except this one can send bogus non-existent patients to you all day long and bill you $110 a pop when the generated patients obviously do not turn up. The idea is to string you along as long as possible. A slap that I noticed in an other doctors comment was when he was given minimal information about a patient and cannot get hold of this "alleged" patient the doctor is forced basically to cancel the patient. ZOCDOC actual penalized the doctor for cancelling.hmm I wonder why? Would it not be because if you cancel an imaginary patient ZOCDOC cannot nail you for the $70-$110... Think People!

Thanks for your feedback. Zocdoc charges on a per booking basis and not for each successful appointment, which is why you would see a charge for cancellations or no shows. We are a marketing platform where you pay when patients find you through our service and book with you. We expect that there will be no-shows and cancellations, and chose our pricing based on that expectation. All patients that use Zocdoc to find care must verify their phone number and provide their email to ensure the provider has their best contact information. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
